Jordan Morgan NFL Draft Prospect Profile and Scouting Report

Arizona Offensive Tackle Jordan Morgan - 2024 NFl Draft Scouting Report

Name: Jordan Morgan

School: Arizona

Year: Senior

Position: Offensive Tackle

Measurables: 6’5”, 311 lbs. (Combine Measurements)

Combine: ARM: 32.875”. HAND: 10.875”. VERTICAL: 28”. BROAD: 9’2”. BENCH: 27 Reps. 40-YD DASH: 5.04. 10-YD SPLIT: 1.69.

General Info:

A native of Marana, Arizona, Morgan played football at Marana High School, lining up both on offense and defense, as well as starring in track and field as a shot put thrower and being a member of the honor roll. He stayed home to play his college football at the University of Arizona.

After starting just four games across his first two years, Morgan earned the left tackle job ahead of the 2021 season, starting for the next three seasons. He was named first-team All-Pac-12 by the Associated Press (and an honorable mention by the Pac-12 itself) after the 2022 campaign.

Morgan debated entering the draft last year, but decided to return to Arizona for his senior year, and went on to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors for the 2023 season. The 22-year-old was a team captain for the Wildcats.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

From a physical makeup standpoint, Morgan has the tools to be successful at the next level. While his measurements are not overwhelming on paper, Morgan is well built and has a thick frame.

In pass protection, this functional strength allows Morgan to hold his ground effectively and stay firm versus power rushers. He has strong hands and is able to land them under an opponent’s shoulders and control them from there.

Morgan has all the athletic ability he needs. He moves well in space and is able to clear out defenders he locks in on. His quick feet allow him to keep up with rushers trying to get to the edge, or catch up if he falls behind. If he looks beat, Morgan can recover and steer defenders around his quarterback.

The biggest compliment to give Morgan is that it is simply hard to beat him in pass protection. He can keep up against speed and hold up against power. There is no surefire solution. He is not flashy, but is clean, balanced and in control.

In the run game, Morgan’s can fire off the snap and quickly get into position to wall defenders off and open holes.

The athleticism Morgan shows on tape was confirmed during pre-draft testing, where he achieved a 9.24 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) out of a possible 10, putting him in the 92nd percentile of all offensive tackles who have ever taken part in pre-draft testing.

He did not complete the agility drills, but earned an ‘elite’ speed score, headlined by a 10-yard split ranking in the 98th percentile, and a ‘good’ explosion score.

Weaknesses

Despite his good functional strength, there are still times when Morgan can be susceptible to the bull rush and give up too much ground. Washington’s Bralen Trice gave him a tough time during their 2023 matchup.

At 6’5” even, he is on the shorter end for an offensive tackle, ranking in the 39th percentile historically, which could be a contributing factor, as could his shorter arms, which are more guard length than tackle length.

Morgan is not a mauler in the run game, he gets the job done just fine but is not a difference maker. In pass protection, he can overset at times and be vulnerable to inside moves.

Some teams may see Morgan as a guard in the NFL due to his shorter arms, but he has not played any significant snaps there during his career so far, making him something of a projection if he ends up playing inside.

While there is plenty that is good about Morgan, it can be argued there is nothing truly great or outstanding.

Fit with the Packers:

Overall, Morgan just gets his job done in both the pass and run game, and possesses the strength and movement ability required to continue to perform at the next level. He looks like a player who will be able to hang at tackle, rather than having to kick inside.

He fits the Packers’ general preferences at the offensive line position, in terms of both size and athleticism, although his decision not to complete the agility testing could be an issue for Green Bay.

If his shorter arms make him a guard in the Packers’ eyes, which is by no means a given, it could dissuade them from selecting him where they would need to, which is probably pick 41 at the latest.

Morgan would be a quality addition to Green Bay’s offensive line room and could compete immediately with Rasheed Walker to start at left tackle. He has a good chance of hearing his name called by the Packers on draft weekend.

I like Morgan a lot. He is good, not great, at everything. With him you are getting what you paid for. And unlike Mims or Guyton, Morgan actually has a resume to draft off of. And GB would not have to spend # 25 on him either.

I read several times KC was very interested in Morgan, so that could be an easy trade back to #32 and receive their 3rd rounder too. And not to say GB would, but #32 would be very attractive to any team wanting a certain player they can get the 5th year option on, if say a QB fell that far. It could be an easy double whammy to gain 3 premium picks for a minimal 2 moves back.

Truthfully Gute should let KC have him.
Why?- I still believe the Douglass trade has
Gute wanting a DB. Even if it's Kool-Aid.

Kool will not be around in rd Three. Don't waste the extra three on a trade up, unless it is Q.Mitchell.

We need starting level Center / IOL / SS / LB / CB....Plenty of reasons not to trade back in RD 1....I'M saying burn a 2025 RD1 and or RD2 pick if need be. We are ready for the deep playoffs and SB push this year. We need the best of what's within reach and maybe depending on who it is..reach a little higher. The OL has been our Achilles' heel.
Let's get the best 3 OL we can there who are Maulers. If we get that right I think the defense with renewed ferocity can get us the ball back to put up more points. GPG

I agree with you on the needs Phantom, just not with the scenario of throwing away picks to get them because we don't have to. The meat of the draft is the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th round. Scoring extra picks in those rounds would potentially make this our best draft ever. And it would accomplish my goals and yours too. We would gain more talent by trading back.

GB has never been a let's burn all of next years premium picks kind of team. We are not desperate for any player, especially through the draft. Draft Day is a fun movie to watch but it isn't happening in GB anytime soon.

Apparently Gutey's press conference supports my opinions. He actually wants more than 11 draft picks, not less. And he absolutely does not want to trade away future picks. Our best case scenario by far is to trade back, multiple times in the first 3 round to gain more picks in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th rounds. More swings at the plate.

Dallas may snag him at #24. They brought him in for a visit. Some mocks have Miami grabbing him at #21. Like you pointed out, he has a body of work, not 8 starts and a trip to IR. A lot of the boat anchors are projected to the right side. Sua is the outlier as he played both sides of the Center.

Morgan has a bigger wingspan than Tom and even slimmed down to 311, is a bigger man. Critically he has the same elite foot speed and balance. I think he’d be a great pick as a T who could play G or vice versa. He’s Tom with more time in the weight room. I don’t think his technique, though good, is quite as refined as Tom’s. I’d be pretty happy if we picked him and I’d back him to start early, probably at guard to allow him time to perfect his hand technique.

CW,
Morgan would be a good player for the Packers for all the reasons you and Golf mention but he likely isn't a GBP player at #25 value (with a trade back for him like Golf indicates I'd say yes). Like Barton, Morgan's value is being the jack-of-all-trades type where he can slide inside and outside when needed like Tom or Jenkins. A lot to be said about having this type of versatility but I just don't see that being the smart way to go in round 1 unless Morgan was rated higher. The #25 selection should be the BPA at one of your team's biggest needs, which is why I do not see a jack-of-all-trades type player who isn't great at any one thing being the pick in round 1. I also am not sure Morgan will be available at #41. My mock drafts consistently have the Packers taking an OL in round 1 such as JPJ, Barton, Guyton, Lantham, or Mims. Round 2 I consistently see the Packers taking someone like Edgerrin Cooper, Payton Wilson, or Tyler Nubin depending on who is still on the board.

Everything in the draft is about how the board unfolds and there could be 100 different scenarios forcing Gutey to change his plans on the fly, which is why I enjoy the draft so much as you have to be prepared for every contingency. As always I have the GBP draft laid out the way I think is best for the Packers but the direction Gutey goes come draft time is fine with me. I always just hope I hit on one or two players each draft.

I would not be shocked to see us trade down if the draft goes approximately as widely predicted either. A later trade up would then also be on the cards.

There’s a lot of relevant and similar talent projected around and after 25. Of course, on needs another team to want to trade up, which means they need to feel differently.

Morgan didn't do the agilities which were Tom's best tests. His arm length might be a cutoff for them as well. They could project him as being a better guard than the guards available at the top of the 2nd round.

Kingsley Suamataia is better suited to play T and is almost a year and a half younger.

Suamataia is a great T prospect to develop. Better value I expect than Mims or Guyton. However, he’s not the finished article either and is another inch taller as a G. If they take Morgan they are taking a player more ready to play now and perhaps the better G prospect.

Suamataia may also go in the late first round - similar to Guyton. They are both excellent athletes - but I prefer Guyton's mental processing of the game and talent over Suamataia. To wit I recall Guyton's evolution as a basketball player - to a D-lineman - to a Halfback - to a Left Tackle - to an Honorable Mention All Pac-12 RT - in a few short years.

Sua was 2nd team All Big 12. Patrick Paul was the 1st team LT and may be a solid Pro. These two guys have the longer arms with a heavy punch.

Morgan seems to be solid while still having upside. Nothing weird about him. It's always good to read an article about a player who the Packers have a decent chance of drafting. It would be nice to have more articles that take a broader look at the draft though, to encourage discussion. Like maybe one article like that per day. I learn a lot from the commenters here.

It's the Final Countdown (du du DUH du)

Lots of good players in the top 91 and beyond. I'm at the point where I don't care who the specific people are, trusting the personnel people. Morgan would be a good pick for any team that needs a tackle who could play early.

Because I've looked ahead two years and realize what our Oline is going to look like (Myers gone, Tom, Walker, and Rhyan are FAs, and Jenkins earning $25M/year) I just think it's supercritical that we get some guys in the pipeline who can give us depth now and be a solid starter in two years. I like Amegadjie, too, and King Sua. I still think Barton is the most versatile Olineman in the draft, and I know that we like versatility in our linemen. He'd give us a legitimate backup/future starter at every spot, whereas right now, we don't have anybody that fits that description.

Amegadjie, and King Sua.=
These two fit the #58 pick.
I have them both dropping because .
"they have a lot to learn."
I'm convinced Gute wants a DB.
And he wasn't in Alabama for nothing.

Amegadjie could easily be around at #58, and he fits the Gutekunst profile of taking guys who had better years as a junior than as a senior. I don't think Sua will still be available then.

Gutekunst likes first round DBs. We don't have any Day 2 DBs on the roster, but we have 3 Day 2 picks on our OL.

I think it's McKinstry or Dejean at #25, and if they're both gone, I'd expect a trade down and get some premium offensive linemen.

Stokes cannot be counted on to show up. I still want two CBs in the upper half. Cam Hart can hold inside and flex to safety. Some trash Caelen Carson, but he is one of the best press/man guys coming up. Get more physical
on the back end.

The arms stuff seems a bit overworked. Bakh has 34" arms and Tom has 33 1/4 " arms. Both have quick foot movement and you can see that on every down they play. That's what I would look for in a lineman.

You have to have a hard cut off somewhere. A lot of teams have a 34" threshold. The Packers are under that but under 33" seems a stretch.

His wingspan is greater than Tom’s. I’m not worried about it given his elite movement. I’d not go much below. Too much consternation over at best a negligible difference.

Morgan's college tape shows that, at times, he had difficulty to re-engage his block - after initial hand contact - due to his shorter arms. Ergo opinion(s) that he may eventually fail to Guard. Tom, Bulaga and even Bakhtiari were all shorter arm Tackles. However, none were shorter than 33" in length - which Morgan is - albeit not by much. So my opinion on Morgan - as an OT - is whatever the Packers may deem. Should Gutekunst like him - perhaps a trade down to 30 - while gaining an additional 3rd round pick is the most optimal Day 1 play for the Packers.

So would you guys burn 2-#1's to reach TE Bowers at #15? Note: I'm expecting to win the SB this season with him.
