Not a hot take when I commented before the season the kicker would cost us a game, the question is does he get better? I don’t think so and do you want him learning how to shave on your face again next year? Giannis misses too many free throws so work on it, he has, still sucks. Same feeling about this kicker. You are a natural or you’re not.

Almost the whole game I tell my son, man Love is way better than Purdy then like a switch is flipped he can’t hit wide open underneath crossers and two picks…wtf?

Catch two EASY interceptions you tracked since the the ball leaves Purdy’s hand! Nope 😢

The NFL is so close in parity the three hour game comes down to a handful of plays that decides it. You either make them or the other team does, game over. I feel so bad for the guys on the team and coaches. ALL that time working and getting guys in the right spot to play together for 18 weeks, and it doesn’t mean shit because you can’t make an easy kick, hit the wide open guy, catch the gimme interception.
I think I feel better after blow outs where you look at the other team and say wow…we don’t got those dogs and there’s a huge gap. Go Pack Go…just make those plays next year please!

Please learn something before you form opinions. Please.

Have you ever heard of Mason Crosby?

He never did this well until his FIFTH season as a Packer. And he did worse in 3 seasons after that than Carlson's 80% including his narrow miss last night in the rain that got blown off target. He made 71% this season.

It is pretty outrageous when you're trying to demand someone better than the Packer's all time points leader - and Carlson already IS.

In this off-season hopefully he can regain his natural power, and put it together with the improved accuracy they slowed down his kicking motion to achieve.

Maybe his third season he can keep all that and improve his accuracy beyond that, and in games. If he can't by his fifth season, THEN we can start talking about Crosby was better.

Better Safety play and players is a must this off season. Two through the draft, at least one of Nubin, Kinchens, or Bullock. And a good, under 5 mill a year FA who can tackle well. Savage has to go. Good FA safeties are cheap, example Bills stole Taylor Rapp for $2 million last year. He is available.

Shoring up the interior offensive line with a top guard and maybe a different center is imperative.

Replacing older, EXPENSIVE, always hurt, or not as productive players like Bahk, P Smith, D Campbell. We are close to being out of salary cap hell.

Figure a way to reduce and make Jones contract 3 years for under $7 million a year. He has more in the tank and is an important leader. He is an example of what a great teammate looks like and will make the young players better. We really need him back and he isn't slowing down. Also draft a young stud in case. Braelon Allen, Marshawn Lloyd or Ray Davis would work.

Kicker competition this summer is warranted. Bring in UFDAs Harty-Stanford or Mevis-Missouri. Stronger legs, (Mevis SEC record 63 yards) and more accurate. Points are too important to give away for any team.

New DC so the players and the team can reach its potential. Management owes that.

God we were close to playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl. I will bet there was a collective "WHEW" in the Niners locker room. GB can be very proud of the 2023 season with nowhere to go but up.

Hyde was never tried at S by us. He proved to be a good one. Buffalo realized it when our DC and our acting GM, Russ Ball did not. They paid him a vast amount for what he’d been here and got proved right. Have to tip your hat to good personnel evaluation on their part. Douglas gets us a 3rd rounder this year and we will see what we do with that. Different regimes though. I don’t see Douglas changing anything yesterday. Do you?

Sic, yes Carson is young, but 71% won't even get a kicker a job interview in the NFL. Standards are pretty high because its the difference between winning and losing. Carlson was inconsistent just like this in college. Plus the short kickoffs are a problem for the team especially because of our poor kick coverage this year. Injuries are probably 1% on non returned kickoffs I would guess. Positions, especially lower paying ones are far from guaranteed. I would feel alot better about Carlson if his kickoffs were better and he didn't miss gimme extra points. Hey also, if you disagree with another posters opinion that is fine. Just don't insult anyone.

Nfl stats has Carlson at 81% not 71. I knew he was going to miss something yesterday because he looked real nervous. But the snap was off to the right and the placement of the football had to much of a tilt to the left. That made the difference not the kicker.

By the time you add Carlson's kicks yesterday his average for the season was 80%. Many of the ones he missed were due to snaps so bad that Whelan couldn't get the hold right, and Whelan's been doing a great job of fielding wildly off snaps. The LS is the weak link. I remember we joked here about the LS competition, but if they could get somebody better that would make a lot more sense. Or maybe they'd rather keep working with him?

It's Mason Crosby that was 71% this season, and less than Carlson's 80% until his fifth season.

Rich Bisaccia had Carlson do every one of those short kickoffs, I don't think he should get cut for following directions.

Leaving points on the field, no third down stops or pressure on Purdy on the final drive, Campbell and Walker filling the same hole on the Mccaffery TD .

Dont like the headline - Devasting? At the start of the year - would we be calling a 2nd round playoff loss devasting?
Now I thought we were going to get blown out. For the want of a few plays we could have won. That is young team experience wise and yes - Love missed a few short throws for 3rd down conversions ie the one to Jones. Had Carlson made that chip shot field goal maybe Love doesnt panic if going down for a game winner instead of a game tier. I am a glass half full guy after this game and the win over Dallas. Now to move on with a better cap situation. I am not going to be full of negatives or call the loss devastating - I am happy that we showed up - Now next year will be next year - and you have to play the games but I am ecstatic with the potential of this roster and we have a draft to add the needed piece and maybe a free agent or two.

it was devastating....to get so close and blow it in the NFL is devastating...next year has no guarantees for anything...ask Bengals, Cowboys, Eagles, etc...the game was there for the taking...multiple errors and poor QB play in the fourth quarter did them in...hopefully a learning experience..

Wrong - Devastating is what the Vikes are going through - Devastating is what the Cowboys are going through. We were not expected to be there - we were expected to have much the same pre-season prediction as we were when AR took over from #4. We exceeded our expectation - I am happy - not devastated - not that I like the way that we lost. Not the fact that a missed field goal put us in a bad spot - but not devastated. We hung in there and we were not supposed to even be in the game - 10 point underdogs only losing by 3. Come on.

There's LOTS of reasons for optimism! Every position can improve, and they have their chance, soon. Most of our players are at least somewhat beat up; 3 days to 3 weeks of rest and they can start working hard. Our 3 huge OTs on the bench probably haven't been able to really lift heavy, to make sure they're recovered come game day. They can all pack on strength now. And so on, throughout every position.

A little improvement from everybody individually, and starting with their hair on fire on day 1 of OTAs, and next season can be completely different :)

Successful season considering its a rebuild/retool. Blew out Dallas and took SF to the brink. Now’s the time to fix/upgrade our D once and for all. Just watch the Ravens, they’re aggressive and tackle well. I trust Gute will it done. Hopefully they can get Watsons injuries under control, can’t have him in rehab constantly. Future is bright, GPG!

It was mismanagement to go into the playoffs with a rookie kicker who led the league in misses in the regular season. It was bound to bite them in the bum. It surely did last night.

Packers were the better team for 56 minutes. The game is 60 minutes long.

The dropped interceptions by Savage and Nixon were killers. Savage would very likely have scored.

Love outplayed Purdy for three quarters. In the fourth, the tougher, more resilient NFL players took over. That included Purdy.

Love reverted to October 2023 form in the fourth quarter. He needs to fix that. He was sensational for 8 - 10 weeks. If he's for real, he needs to learn to do what Purdy did in the last San Fran drive in a playoff game.

Joe Barry's defense caved after the missed field goal. The defense was misaligned near the goal line on the winning TD run. Barry cannot come back as D coordinator.

I'm not buying the 'they were a young team that exceeded expectations' rap. They got hot in December - January and were in the dance with the lead in a game that would have led to the NFC Championship game.

They collectively blew it in the dying stages of the game. If a team gets a chance, it needs to grab it. There is no guarantee the Pack will be better next year.

LaFleur needs to prove his team can win such games.

Yeh, from the very first couple of throws Jordan threw, his passing did not look good and, in fact, reminded me of his ineffectual passing in the first half of the season. And, like Andy, Love's tendency to throw bad passes that are intercepted suddenly reminded me of Favre's habit of throwing bad passes that ended in being intercepted. . . A habit that Favre never really got rid of. Will Jordan lose the habit?

All in all, the Packers were an interesting team this first year without Aaron Rodgers. But I still have no idea how good or bad the Packers really are. Maybe this year was an aberration, a fluke, a one-time thing. Maybe Jordan doesn't improve, for example. And what happens to the defensive coordinator? Does LaFleur decide to keep him after all?

Anyway, there's a long way to go.

For me yesterdays playoff game was a snap shot of the Packers entire season. Crucial mistakes made at oppurtune times in a game - penalties, missed or poor tackling, interceptions, dropped balls, missed FG's and also throw in some poor play calling on offense & defense. Its the youngest team in the league what did you expect...? I'm just shocked that they made it to the playoffs... I've been very critical all season at some of the decisions made at the executive level. But there were 24 other NFL teams sitting home watching these games yesterday not involved in the playoffs. So the Packer's must be doing something right... I'll give upper MGT and the coaching staff a pass on this season, but I am expecting they have this team moving in the right direction for the 2024/2025 season. NFL draft is next Packers need speedy physical LB's... GO PACK GO.

It's never one play and it's wrong to blame a missed FG. If you aren't good enough to convert a 4th and short and get the ball into the endzone, you settle for 3 instead of 7 (or 8) and when something goes wrong (and most FG kickers miss some kicks) you throw them under the bus.

Savage's non-interception? Love's panic heave at the end? Nixon's return-fumble-recovery? Tom's injury? Every one of those, and more, were just as responsible for this narrow loss.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Before my feet hit the floor today, I remembered we lost. Showered and dressed and it's a cold, wet, ugly day here. But then a pretty girl made me some bacon, and I remembered that we had a really good season, making the playoffs and advancing by doing Dallas. So it's better now.

I think this team returns what should be one of the top passing attacks in the league for 2024, and the only thing that would derail that is if we don't have decent blocking, so I'm in favor of using both of our extra Day 2 picks on offensive linemen. Get some real beef in there so that when injuries strike, as they always do, we don't have to line up a weakling against Bosa in the playoffs.

If we make the offensive line stronger and deeper, this passing attack will roll next year. It also won't hurt the running game, either.

Thus, the argument for a stronger and deeper line. Love was among the least pressured QBs in the league this year. If you want to win in the NFL, you have to protect your QB.

Agree - and we have the pieces and they are pretty young - once Bak is gona - pick some late rounders and sign/resign those starters that played this year well - maybe not Nijman unless price is right. But spend the early draft capital on the D - ILB's and Dbacks - . We need ILB's bigger/stronger and faster than Walker - who should be outside. But please look at Dbacks toughness and their tackling ability /willingness in college. Also get Carlson to work on his leg strength - besides his misses his kick offs were not deep enough.

Exactly!

While we don't know everybody that will be back next season, we CAN be sure of the QB, the whole WR room, and at least our 2 rookie TEs. At least 7 O linemen, and if only 7 then Gutey needs to take 3 in the early rounds. If they keep Runyan and Rhyan maybe he can get by with only taking 2?

This offense will be better next year. How much of the talent on defense they can keep is where the unknowns are ...

The worst and most costly mistake of the head coach was his failure to throw the red flag to challenge the outrageous 4th and one call in the red zone QB sneak. Not only was the ball poorly spotted but on further review the defense was clearly off side. It should have been a 5 yard penalty and a first down. But instead the Niners took possession. On a critical play like that you use the challenge flag, period. let's be honest, it cost us the momentum and ultimately the game. Nuff said.

I do think the spot was bad on that play. You would think in todays NFL world that they would have better camera angles to not miss that. Spotting the ball in the right place should be one of the easier calls to make for a ref. I will admit from the field perspective it is hard to see the actual ball with all the players in that play. In reality you should be able to pick up a yard on that play, but that is also the strongest point of SFs defense. Whoever the inside D-lineman is for SF made a great play. He timed the snap perfectly, he didn't go low on the play as you would expect, and he managed to get ahold of Loves head and turned him. A hell of a play on his part.

Too many things cost us this game. It's tough to pick one thing out of the obvious ones like the missed interceptions or the missed kick. Although Carlson has missed a bunch this year. The snap and placement was actually good on that kick. He just pulled it. Injuries surely are a culprit. They lost Deebo which is huge. But Love was running for his life from Bosa when Toms went out. The other things, like the bad kicking (misses and short kickoffs), was an all-year thing. Tackling or missed tackles was bad all year. Amos was a very good tackler and we really missed a good tackling safety all year. It's not hard to find good, veteran safeties for good prices. Like RBs they are very undervalued. A good place to improve cheaply.

We need the Safety group rebuilt this year as we rebuilt WR and TE last year. Strengthen the interior of the O-line, find a new aggressive rookie or FA LB, CB and another edge would fill most of the holes.

For sure we need kicker competition this summer. Priority to bring in actual Top Ten UFDA kickers. Harty-Stanford and Mevis-Missouri would be great options if they don't get drafted. Using a 7th round pick is ok to get one that has had alot of success in college, Something Carlson did not have. Scoring points is the obvious priority for a kicker, but I would argue that kickoffs not returned are a close second. I would never want to give a returner like Nixon any chance to change a game.

We have an advantage in the fact Aaron Jones really likes being on this Packer team, and the fact that he is a team leader and star while not being a tool. I think he will give us another discount to keep him because he wants to be here, A restructured 3 year contract with him making $6 or $7 million a year or less, would be a home run for GB. We still need to draft his eventual replacement, but really good RBs can be had in rounds 3, 4, and 5. Even though Jones was hurt this year, which should help us in contract talks, he seems to be getting better not worse as he gets older. My faves are Braelon Allen, Ray Davis, and Marshawn Lloyd.

Awwww c'mon now. A half sack in the last 8 games is a bargain for what he's getting paid, ain't it?
-
I was starting to check milk cartons already to see if he'd show up.
-
Okay, now everyone can say he came back too soon from injury, or it was his pressure that accounted for others playing well. Yeah, okay. Simple fact remains he's still a bit of a one trick pony who overplays his edge and gets washed out of run plays. He's good, in the company of others who are good.
