Packers Select Kitan Oladapo in 2024 NFL Draft - Round 5

Kitan Oladapo , Oregon State, Safety

MEASURABLES/PRO DAY:

6'2"

216 Lbs

4.58 40-Yard Dash

36" Vertical Jump

CAREER NOTES:

Oladapo started at safety for Oregon State for the past three seasons, making second-team all conference in 2023 and first team in 2021.

NFL SCOUTING REPORT:

NFL.COM

Packers Wire

Aaron Nagler Draft Crushes

Bleacher Report

FIT WITH THE PACKERS:

Oladapo's fit with the Packers' defense will likely be in three safety formations where he plays closer to the line of scrimmage, covering tight ends or fitting in the run game. For now, he will be expected to make more of an impact on special teams than the defense.

COMMENTARY:

Gute spent two picks on linebackers and two on safeties prior to this pick and then split the difference with a third pick on the 216-pound Oladapo. Oladapo probably won't be able to play a lot of good snaps from depth, but he has the size to play in the box and fit the run in passing situations.

This was a good pick - A steal here
I had Brian taking him at #91
because I felt he would trade up.

I concur. Here is your inside enforcer playing the strong safety spot. It should be good competition in Summer Session. He was one of the visits.

Love this guy...This from the CHTV Draft Guide...

Oladapo improved his draft stock with a standout
performance at the Senior Bowl. He was known as the “man
coverage king” in Mobile during practices at the Senior Bowl,
shadowing anyone across from him and showcasing his great
footwork. At Oregon State, he was a fifth-year starter, and
his coverage skills were highlighted by a career-best opponent
passer rating of just 61.3. Oladapo is a high-upside player that
many scouts believe has top-five upside for this class.

Gutes KILLING it.

They have a good rivalry with these Oregon safeties

I think it's safe to say the safety room has been restocked!

3 safeties they met with drafted. Oladapo another Jim Nagy guy. 3 more safeties they met with on the board. Do they draft another? I don't think so, but who knows with "increasing the competition in the room"? FA possibilities though.

Time to go CB and NT/DT.

Not sure on CB this late. Maybe Gute knows Stokes will be fine after his latest injury.

My thoughts have meandered that way, too. I like Myles Harden here. But, Packers have met with Devonshire, AJ Woods, and Sheppard at various post-season events and they are all
still available.

For an interesting comparison, go look at the measurables for Stokes and Valentine. Observe how similar they were at draft time.

For those fans still not over the DeJean and Hicks rejection by Gutekunst. This pick may help lead to forgiveness.

I had DeJean, Nubin, Kitchens and Bullock all off my S board - with Hicks as a 3rd/4th round pick. I thought that Gutekunst would double-down at the S position. But tripling-down with Oladapo as the third selection was a nice surprise.

Three safeties picked. Gotta admit, I didn't see that coming.

Javon Bullard Rd2/58
Evan Williams Rd4/111
Kitan Oladapo Rd5/169

It's going to be fun to watch which one ends up being the most productive pick.

Yeah, this was a good pick this late. Definitely bringing in some heavy hitters to the room. Can't wait to see these guys blow up some ball carriers.

I was one who was not in favor of an Oline pick in the first round but I am a fan not an insider - so I guess that Gute knows best. However what I do like from all three safeties - is that there bio is that they are willing to stick their nose in and tackle. And whether it is starting on special teams - or in their limited first year defensive snaps - if they can tackle they will get more snaps and it sure does help our special teams. Now I must say I love the ILB and their speed - hopefully they will become the new type of speed linebackers talent wise that the new NFL seems to need to counteract the new offensive play calling.

Don’t call it a comeback; we’ve been doing this for years.

I’d say obsessing over minutiae is next on the list!

Explore new offerings from the New Glarus Brewery - their Pilsner and next Thumbprint series beer are being released next month. That should keep us busy until July.

I guess it's safe to say we won't be hearing any more about the Packers needing to sign a veteran safety. I would've preferred a CB or another OL instead of one of those safeties, but oh well.

Maybe the team will be trying at least a couple of those guys in the Nickel role. It's possible that when they have 5 DB's on the field that instead of the traditional 3 CB / 2 Safety, maybe one of the Safeties will be the 5th DB.

I've been reading Tom Silverstein's draft blog, and he mentioned the same thing about the safeties playing nickel at times. Also, the bigger safeties could be the 3rd LB in the base defense at times.

Three versatile safeties, and at least two could provide depth at nickel. Nice! I was one who would've liked a cheap veteran safety pickup. Not anymore!

The OL and S rooms have been replenished with football players with many snaps, obviously trusted by their coaches to do their jobs. Most of Gute's selections embrace deep experience in college...and leadership roles earning respect from teammates. Most are athletes too...and athleticism comes from hard work and constant training.

Morgan over Mims? Production and leadership over potential and a few flashes? Yes. And that first selection again set the tone and was reinforced over the 2024 plethora of picks.

Two more picks to go. But this has been an excellent, team building draft for the youngest NFL squad.
