Packer adding DL Billy Wynn to roster for Saints game

The former Browns draft pick has not played in an NFL game since 2016.

The Packers are bringing up defensive lineman Billy Wynn from the practice squad to the active roster, according to Field Yates over at ESPN

Winn, a 2012 sixth-round draft pick of the Browns, has not played in an NFL game since 2016. He missed the 2017 season with a torn ACL, was out of football in 2018, then landed on injured reserve again in 2019 with a triceps injury. Winn played in 68 games from 2012 to 2016, starting 23 contests for the Browns, Colts and Broncos.

Hopefully this move is meant to supplement and support Kenny Clark's return rather than a move being made because Clark is questionable and may not play against the Saints on Sunday night.

I kinda doubt it. I wish it was. My guess that this week is too soon for Clark’s return.

This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Dude hasn't played in 4 years. Many of us were concerned about the D-line after last season, now these concerns are manifesting in a lack of depth coupled with poor play. Hopefully the offense can score plus 40 again this week, it just may be necessary.

If he does as well as Aldon Smith, I'd be happy.

Hard to imagine how Gute could have so completely ignored the DL. They were run over last year, even with Clark, and he has to know that Lowry and Lancaster are Jags, Keke has yet to show much, and M. Adams has been a bust. Now we'll be inserting a guy who hasn't played in four years to try and stop Kamara, one of the most dangerous RBs in football. Pettine tried to compensate so far this year by playing the Smith's and Gary together but that hasn't worked stopping the run. Hope they have a plan because with Brees looking like he's hit a wall and can't throw deep anymore, and with Thomas out, they'll be running the ball right up the alley. Who's going to stop them?

It's not hard at all. You prioritize pass rush, not run stopping. The scheme is about disrupting the QB far more than anything else. The personnel is fine if they were intent on run stopping, but it isn't about that. Its almost entirely on the QB. They play the run on the way to the QB. Stopping the run is a distant 2nd.

I understand what you mean JohnnyLogan... But did you watch Kingsley Keke against the Saints? He had a pretty damn good game. He has 2 sacks and a TFL.

I watched and was encouraged by Keke, but I was unfortunately right about Kamara running all over us, at a record-breaking level. I remember that Capers defense used to set some record for futility almost every week. We're at it again. Hope to hell we improve and if not get rid of Pettine sooner rather than later.

I suppose even old, out of shape guys who haven't played in 4-years are better than Montravius Adams.

He's showing you who he is! I knew it as soon as they drafted him it was a mistake. He's got a ton of ability but a $.10 head!

Frustrating as hell after how much they hyped him up in camp last year

I see Gute brought up Shepherd from the PS. Why not give Begelton a shot. We saw Shepherd last season and it wasn’t pretty. Also, maybe throw a few passes to M. Taylor as he did make the 53. Looking forward to see how our D performs against a better opponent.

I mean why not see what Wilkerson was up to. He was a higher draft pick and knows Pettine’s D. Only drafted one year before Wynn. That seems farfetched I suppose, but seems better than Wynn.

If I recall, Wilkerson, in addition to being old, had a stop for weed or DUI (something) and would be ineligible for a game or two. I may be thinking of someone else, but I'm pretty sure that was part of his problems.

Seriously how does M Adams and Burks keep their roster spots? These are 2 players that when they are not hurt, they are completely invisible. There must be a player SOMEWHERE that could offer more than these 2 schlubs.

Winn hasn't played in several years and was injured a couple times and now he joins the game day roster.

I am trying to be open - minded & optimistic about his elevation to the roster.

I would like to think Winn had to show he had " something " to offer to the coaches while he was on the practice squad the past few weeks, why else would he get the promotion?

And guess it also speaks volumes about who else was considered for the roster and came in second place.

Hope he plays like a man who has one chance to prove he belongs on an NFL roster and earn a nice NFL paycheck!

If Wynn can take up a blocker so that our ILBs can make a stop he could be OK with limited snaps. I doubt that he is in shape to play a full game of snaps. Let’s hope he is called up only to spell Clark or only in case of emergency on our DL. Thanks, Since ‘61

I did some checking and holding Brees under 30 in New Orleans is something that doesn’t happen very often, but it does happen. Wynn isn’t going to make any difference.

Our formula so far has been controlling the ball, and the clock, with our league best offense. And people aren’t beating us on the ground, even guys like Cook and Peterson. Kamara is a real good player and stopping him is going to be a team effort.

Look for New Orleans to throw over 40 passes tonight in a high scoring game. We’ve taken one sack and have 0 turnovers. If we continue to protect the ball and our QB, we should be able to score.

I'll feel lots better about this game if Adams (WR) plays tonight. I think he's important to our TOP as well as our scoring. NOR has a tough D and an ACE RB, and a HOF QB who's probably in his last year. Spells danger to me. Hope our defense comes to play tonight.
