2022 Packers Stock Report: Week 13

Take a look at the stock report for the Green Bay Packers after a 28-19 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 13.

The Green Bay Packers still own the Chicago Bears.

In an otherwise miserable season, it's still nice to know the good guys are better than the bad guys.

And now the good guys have the most wins in NFL history.

After a first half of misery, it was looking dim for the Packers. But thanks to a second half surge, Green Bay was able to extend its win streak over the Bears to eight consecutive games.

So let's get into the stock report for the Green Bay Packers after a 28-19 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 13.

BUY

The bye- The classic buy the bye. Who doesn't love a good play on words? In all seriousness, this Packers team needs a break. I think we, the fans, could all use a week off, too. It's been a tough season, and the Packers will need to win out if they want any shot at the playoffs. So this team needs to rest up, get healthy and come back with some urgency.

AJ Dillon- With the absence of Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon stepped in and played nicely. It hasn't been the best season for Dillon, who has struggled getting past the line of scrimmage and running behind his pads. But the past two weeks have been different. Against Chicago, Dillon rushed the rock 18 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. This is the time of year where having a big, physical running back can pay dividends for offenses. Imaging trying to tackle Dillon in 20-degree weather. I wouldn't want to do that.

Keisean Nixon- Keisean Nixon has made quite the difference on special teams as a returner, but he played well defensively also on Sunday. He recorded his first career interception against the Bears. After the game, Aaron Rodgers had some nice things to say about him. “He’s the type of player that I wish I had over the course of my career because I feel real good about going to battle with a guy like that.” Buy.

SELL

3rd and short- It is amazing some of the play calls that the Packers come up with on 3rd downs with minimal distance to gain. I know Aaron Rodgers doesn't like to do quarterback sneaks, but the Eagles make it looks so effortless, so maybe we can take a page out of their book? Sometimes it's as simple as that. It sure as heck beats the classic play call of "everybody go deep, I'll try to find someone open down there." It's frustrating watching this happen game after game.

Robert Tonyan- I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about Robert Tonyan this season. Last offseason and this preseason I was very adamant that Tonyan would have a bounce back year and look like the same guy who caught 11 touchdowns in 2020.  That has been far from the case. He's been almost non-existent as a last resort option for Rodgers in this pass game, and when he does make a catch, he never catches it in stride and keeps going. He looks timid and always breaks down before facing a tackler. On top of that, he's struggled as a run-blocker. Not sure we'll see him back next year. Sell.

HOLD

David Bakhtiari- An appandectomy kept David Bakhtiari from playing against the Bears on Sunday, and it sounds like it might keep him out for a bit longer. "From what I've been told, it could be a while," Matt LaFleur said about Bakhtiari's status. Bakhtiari has had his fair share of highs and lows this season due to his issues with his knee. But when he has been out there, he has been very productive. So I'd hold on to Bakhtiari's stock still.

Buy-the bye. Two weeks in a row without a loss. Been a while. Could make the playoff picture clearer.

Sell-2 down lineman in anything but prevent (especially with Lowery). Need to start to get some pressure from the inside. That would help the edges and LBs also.

Hold-any more injuries. Let's get through this season, then start worrying about next season.

Thanks Gunnar.

3rd and short: The Eagles make it look easy because they have a great offensive line and a dual threat at QB. The Packers have a decent offensive line, but the run-blocking leaves something to be desired in short-yardage situations--and the coaching staff often seems reticent to employ creativity to help in this regard.

Conditional Sell: Bakh. That's if Tom continues to play well at LT. We'll find out if this is feasible with better competition than the Bears coming up on the schedule.

Buy: I'll be the master of the obvious with Watson. This offense would be stuck in the doldrums without him, especially with Doubs out.

If we'd have taken Creed Humphrey instead of Josh Myers in 2021 we would have a much better offensive line!

I have a feeling Tom will do well at LT. I think he very well could become our left tackle of the future if he can bulk up in the offseason. Bakhitiari is aging and is always at high injury risk, and cutting or trading him post June-1st would save 17m of cap space in 2023. Tom could become our #1 LT as soon as next season.

Buy: Zach Tom. He has done a good job filling in and OL is doing well.

SELL: Joe Barry. He has done a terrible job. And the players know it. And Jim Leonard is now available.

Hold: The whole season. Lafleur needs to clean house on his assistants. And he needs to learn to make changes faster.

Tom will only get better as time goes on.

Let's go get Jim Leonhard!

I don’t watch college football and would like to ask why Leonard is so widely coveted as our DC? Not disagreeing with it of course but just wondering.

If you don't watch college football, that explains it. Wisconsin's defense has consistently been among the nation's best ever since he took over

“SELL: Joe Barry.”

To make a sale happen, you have to have a buyer. And after this year, I’m not sure even the Texans’ personnel department are stupid enough to buy Barry to fill their Guy Who Squirts Gatorade Bottle Through Players’ Facemask position.

When you are Defensive Coordinator and your defense is this bad, and your answer when recently asked why is, “I wish I knew. I’ve stayed up many nights thinking about that and I wish it was one specific thing that I could put my finger on,” you have no business having a job in the NFL in any capacity, and I think the whole league can see it.

Joe Barry isn’t a “Sell.” Joe Barry is a “Fire Him Into The Sun And Regret You Ever Heard His Name.”

Tough choices on TE room. Can Lewis do it another year? Tonyan washed? Davis absolute garbage from the get go. Buy Deguara because you have to. Then start bringing in anyone from outside...draft, free agents, whatever.

c'mon stocky... why should the GBP hold onto any of the warm bodies in the TE room?

they have all been transparent - almost completely useless throughout the entire season. not even a bit of a heater for any of the 4.

an argument can be made to hold Deguara for another year where he is given a defined role and then proceeds to own that role and contribute in a jusczyk kind of way.

of course not holding the dead wood of the TE room means that GB will have to acquire some TE talent from somewhere... the draft last year had a nice crop but GB didn't dip into that talent pool. I do not know enough of this years crop to comment at this time, ask me before the draft when I have done some homework...

I would really like to know why Dillon is/was so bad at the start of the year. Maybe he was so in love with the press over his big thighs that that was all that he did was do leg lifts and became so muscle bound he could barely walk. Whatever his workout regime was last season - throw that one in the garbage. I as well as everybody else was hoping for the types of games that he had against Tennessee the previous season. He needs that type of offseason conditioning and OTA to get back to that. Now the Oline was a bit of an issue at the start of the year - but even Jones broke tackles and just didnt get plugged up.
I wonder what the scenarios are for Pack to be eliminated before Monday night game - it would be nice to see Love against Baker . Especially since Donald isnt there. Maybe the following week it would be a buy for Love - LA secondary is not great when Donald isnt creating havoc - and we can handle him and have in the past.

"the Oline was a bit of an issue at the start" understatement of the year?

Because of the line Dillan was misused especially after Rodgers' "thumb" when Dillan had to run out of the shotgun. He's not made to do the quick dives and moves that Jones can do. Not many are. Dillan's been the Packers designed cold weather back and that's what he built for.

I believe Aaron Donald is dealing with an ankle sprain and likely won't be playing vs us.

Dillon is a power back and he is #1 back. Give him 20+ touches a game and he will get 100 yards. He is like a Derek Henry…only the Titans scheme to use Henry and feature him…They even stick an extra OL in there to really give him a head start. The Packers…they don’t help Dillon …no full back, giving it to him in shotgun, constantly in and out etc. allowing plenty of time for defenses to sub.No consistency in play calls to get him into a rhythm and wear down defenses to set up play action. They caved in to Rodgers this year and at the beginning it was pass 3 and out pass 3 and out while expecting a zone defense to hold up. Just hard to watch. Took em over half a season just to field a decent front 5. The team wins when they prioritize the run, reverses, motion and play action gets involved. It’s worked for most of LaFluers tenure. Last year Dillon dragged Donald for like 3 yards in the earlier season game against the Rams in which they won. They beat both super bowl teams earlier in the year last year by running…not forcing a ball to an aging Randall Cobb. Then somewhere along the line they decided “ Hey, let’s give 12 what he wants and revert back to McCarthy game plans”
