I wonder if God loves da Bears as much as he loves the Packers???

The football gods have forsaken the bears due to the atrocity of the 80s known as refrigerator perry and not getting Peyton a TD in superbowl. True classless organization if ever there was one.
Asterisk my ass, poor losers and they were pimp slapped out of green bay. Magik man was behind the LOS.

The Bears STILL SUCK.... More than ever!
Get used to it Chicago. You're about ready to draft your 3rd 1st round draft choice #2 overall, #11 overall, and now possibly the #1 draft pick...What a dump truck of an organization.
Leatherhead
January 07, 2024 at 02:55 pm
On the other hand, they might use those picks to put a much better team around Fields. He's their leading rusher and passer. He'd probably be their leading receiver if he could throw it to himself. Improvements around him would help quite a bit, IMO.

This is what I love about football. Everything....the offseason workouts, OCAs, practices, exhibitions...it all comes down to one game, usually in cold weather, where you have to win if you want to keep playing. Everybody is beat up, it's cold, the refs are boning you, and you've got to find a way to get it done.
At home, against the Bears. It just doesn't get better than this. This is what you play the season for.

Just tuned in and I see the Special Teams are off to a crappy start. ANOTHER short kick which gave CHI the ball at the 31. Why do they keep doing that when it rarely works? And then a missed 41 yard FG.

January 07, 2024 at 03:55 pm
Yeah, he's just bad enough that LaFleur will give him two more years.
Qoojo
January 07, 2024 at 03:55 pm
I think he will be. The whole story around him is that some team gave up on his brother too early who is now good. So because of Rich B's familiarity with him and his brother, we are going to be stuck watching this experiment play out for at least one more year. Packers probably figured this was the year because of the rebuild.
SicSemperTyrannis

Yes. I was surprised to see that experiment doubled down on, going with rookies at both K & P.

Well, prior to picking up Watson in the second round last year the Packers hadn't taken a WR in the second round since 2014. That of course was Davante Adams. Why they waited eight years to try it again, who knows. Reed looks great though.

They are 2nd last in the NFL.
Beating the bears shouldn't be this hard.
I still think the Packers will win and get to the playoffs.
But then something changes....instead of playing almost all losing teams during the season, you now have to play winning teams.

As for LeFleur, I’m used to seeing him hurt the team.
SicSemperTyrannis
January 07, 2024 at 05:14 pm
Carlson in fact does have a HUGE leg. They have intentionally changed his mechanics, slowing his kicking motion down to trade power for increased accuracy. That change was made before week 1. They had him slow it down another notch for that extra point.
Hopefully he can get his power back in the off-season with no loss of accuracy.

January 07, 2024 at 05:25 pm
Barry should be fired for not blitzing on that third down.
We'lre lucky that wasn't a TD for the Bears!
Defense is once again infuriating this game for anyone who looks past the statistics.
This is football, not accounting!
Leatherhead
January 07, 2024 at 05:26 pm
The Bears have 9 points with 13 minutes left. They're kicking off. They still need a TD to win.
Keep the clock moving, get a few first downs, and Chicago starts running out of time. Especially if we score and make it a two TD game.
A real nail-in-the-coffin opportunity. A 5 minute drive for a TD leaves them needing two TDs in 8 minutes.
Or a long catch and run by Reed works, too. But seriously, burn some clock.

January 07, 2024 at 05:35 pm
I'm not mad at that call for a no-catch on that TD. It was called a TD on the field and there isn't enough to overturn it, but it was originally ruled incomplete.
Great effort from Melton, call could go either way.
Carlson drilled it straight down the middle; getting out of his skirting the edge is significant. Let's see if he recovers his power ...

So, lets assume, like i am, that the Packers win this game.
Is this the 'statement game' that others were speaking of?
With this win, this will be the 11th game in a row the Packers have beat the Bears dating back to 2018.
The only statement this tells me is.....
We still own the Bears.

The offense played a near perfect game due to the players and LaFleur.
The defense played an infuriatingly iffy game with an excellent job by the players and a terrible job by Barry.
I'd fire Barry before the playoff game, because he refuses to blitz often enough and is way too softly passive.
We only won because the offense wonderfully covered for the defense.

they gave up 9 points. they were net -1 in turnovers. they destroyed the bears line of scrimmage. Props to the team, and to the game plan. The Bears are better than they were game one. Save for a missed field goal and a fumble, it was damn near perfect.

The Packers defense gave up 9 points.
Sacked Fields 5 times
Held the Bears to under 200 yards...
Does Joe Barry get any credit for that?
SicSemperTyrannis
January 07, 2024 at 06:37 pm
Fuck no. JB is chopped liver. Sacks by 90, 94, 55, and who else? P Smith generating pressure, but not fast enough to track down Fields.

January 08, 2024 at 08:05 am
So Barry doesn't get any credit because they played losing teams.
But the Packers get all the credit beating mostly losing teams on their cupcake schedule?
That's well thought out.
Qoojo
January 08, 2024 at 11:11 am
I didn't say that. If a team wants to win the superbowl, the team has to win against playoff caliber teams. So if you want to judge the offense and defense, it comes down to how the packers perform against 49ers, Eagles, Dallas, and to a lesser extent the teams that simply are going nowhere in the playoffs. This isn't rocket science.
If packers want to be in playoffs, it's expected that they beat the bears. The win against the Vikings last week on the road was more impressive.
So who gives a shit about credit. It was a stupid question.
Since'75
January 08, 2024 at 02:59 pm
"The win against the Vikings last week on the road was more impressive."
The vikings gave up, before the game started!! lol
The vikings mostly gave up when Cousins got injured.
I'll go one further, if Cousins didn't get injured, the Packers probably don't see the playoffs.
The vikings started a 5th round rookie against us!!
That was a clear no brainer for me, i rarely ever bet, but i put 5 bills on the Packers.
More impressive than beating the losing Bear franchise?
Whatever you say Sparky.
***************
I also have news for everyone...nobody is afraid of the Packers, because they beat the all mighty and powerful Chicago Bears....lol
We were 9-8 against a cushy schedule with an impressive win against the Lions, and a win against the Chiefs who are nothing but a shell of themselves this season.
*****************
Now....it's big boy football.

January 08, 2024 at 05:54 pm
Have you not seen any past packers games in the vikings dome? Love's first start there and a completely dominating win. Love shredded the MN defense. GB hasn't won in MN since 2020.
The win against bears was the 10th in a row, and CHI hasn't won in GB since 2015.
So the win over vikings was definitely more impressive.

What is kind of a irony, The Vikes end up in the bottom on the NFC North when two weeks ago Shep Smith was saying the NFC north belongs to the Vikes until someone takes it away. Well both the Lions and Packers took it away.
After this years draft I think the entire NFC North will be the youngest division in the NFL. The Lions and Pack are young and Chicago is close, this next draft will be a boone for them with lots of picks and cap money to spend.
I say the NFC NOrth will be the toughest div in football next year.
