Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

The Weekly Packers Brain Drain from Jersey Al.

From NFL.com, here is an overview of the Packers' activity since the end of last season. Do you consider it a net positive or net negative overall? Let me know what you think in the comments.

Notable acquisitions/re-signings:

Notable departures:

No Chunky Amari  - I doubted myself last year as I watched Amari Rodgers on the few ball-carrying attempts he had last year. he looked kind of chunky to me, but I figured I was probably wrong. After all, most short running backs wide receivers aren't on the chunky side. Well, seems that Amari did in fact work on his body this offseason, losing weight and 4% body fat. According to Rodgers himself, it was all in his torso. He says he feels "back to normal" and I'm looking forward to seeing what he looks like in camp.

It's rankings season - The internet is flooded with "tops at the position" rankings, and invariably some Packers players get slighted in the eyes of fans and an uproar ensues. "How could you leave so-and-so off the list? Why do you disrespect Packers players like this?  etc, etc.  My only question for these people is, why do you care about something so unimportant?

Personal Trifecta - It's been a big year for David Bakhtiari. Life is moving fast, as he got married back in March, earned his college degree this summer, and is now an expectant father. Hopefully, he adds to that trifecta by making it back onto the field for the Packers to start the season. Oh, and how about this pic of him when he was (I assume) a freshman at Colorado?

Tattoo You - Any surprise that Aaron Rodgers' first tattoo is, um, "complicated?"

I believe the acquisitions are a net gain. Loved the before/after of Bahk in that post! I've never give a rats a** about "rankings" and don't get the anger/love some have with them. I'm hoping that the 4% weight loss of Amari shows he's 'all in' for the coming year and is, as Nagler would say, 'putting in the work'. I can't wait for the season to begin!

I think extending both Preston Smith and Jarie Alexander probably doesn't happen if they keep Adams, I think the same could be said about being able to retain Douglas and Campbell. Had they kept Adams they might have been able to do just one of those things possibly two. They also don't come out of the 2022 draft with Quay Walker, Davante Wyatt, and Christian Watson. They probably get ONE of those players and then who knows at 59, the original 2nd round pick. Also, I think the Jarran Reed signing is one of the most under-the-radar signings in the NFL this offseason.

I loved the Amari Rodgers pick last year and was frankly surprised at his lack of production. The kid played REALLY well at Clemson so I was shocked he did so little and frankly was downright awful at times during the 2021 season. Whatever Amari Rodgers has done to feel "Normal" and hopefully get back to the player the Packers thought they drafted, is great news to me. If he FEELS good, chances are he'll be better.

Bakhtiari... For the time being, I'm remaining calm and hopeful DB will be back on ON THE FIELD week one against the Vikings. HOW they'll bring him along to get ready to start against Hunter, Smith, and the rest of the Vikings defense I'm not going to worry about. Obviously, we need to see him on the field participating but I'm not jumping to any conclusions the first time he's not doing what the media expects him to be doing.

Rodgers Tattoo...Kinda weird but Rodgers is kinda weird too. I'm sure he'll explain it on the Pat McAfee show in his cryptic way where NONE of us will understand because he actually said absolutely nothing.

Spot on as always, NP. Especially this…

The cliché of “Coachspeak” has nuthin’ on “Rodgerspeak.”

Like you NP, I am remaining hopeful about Bahk. His inability to return after the normal twelve months off for an ACL is concerning but maybe the additional eight months will allow the knee to fully heal and let him play. Fingers crossed........ The Packers NEED him.

Regarding Amari Rodgers lack of production: He was used mostly on STs and only had a few snaps with the offense. His plays involved end arounds and catching short passes to move the chains. Give the guy a chance and I think he will shine. Competition for playing time amongst the WRs, in GB, will limit his playing time, once again, I fear. I guess that is okay, as long as the WRs move the chains and catch the ball for TDs and big gains, though. GO PACK, GO!!!

Last year I would have agreed with you but I remember an offseason interview with one of the coaches who said that Amari didn't get many opportunities because he didn't look good in practice (paraphrasing of course). So if by "give the guy a chance" you mean see if he looks better in practice, and if he does, get him more involved on the field, I'm right there with you and rooting for him. If competition in the WR room keeps him from playing that simply means the rest of the WR corps is playing better than him and should be the ones on the field. I'm excited to see how that room shakes out - we added 4 of them this offseason so I like the odds of at least one of them having a breakout year (and it might just be Amari).

He had 103 snaps on offense or roughly 10%. He did only have 8 targets but if Rodgers is watching film and sees you're consistently not getting open he's not going to look your way much.

I think the big miss for the Packers was not resigning MVS. I think he becomes a dynamic force for the Chiefs.
I wonder what the Packers were thinking, especially as this is seen as perhaps our best opportunity for a title over the next few seasons.
Let's hope Amari helps to fill the void with his own dynamic performance.
In general, I like that the Packers try to keep their own players, which makes the omission of MVS more mysterious.
***
I'm going to mostly leave out my concerns about retaining Aaron Rodgers after he, in effect, held out for the second offseason.
A paradox with Rodgers is that if he becomes more coachable (e.g. is willing to play in the preseason), he will become a better leader -- and the Packers will be a more potent team.
I'm rooting for him.

I liked MVS, but not at anywhere near the $10 million a year he reportedly signed for. He had four years with the Packers and never really developed beyond a "field stretcher". No mystery here, the Packer FO just didn't see the value at $10 million per year - strictly a business/financial decision.

Hi Swisch... I go back and forth on the MVS departure. Although he's gotten better he's never been a guy I trust to make the catch. When he first signed with the Chiefs 3 years, $30 million I thought that was too much. Now with the contracts for WRs going where they have this offseason, it's probably a bargain.

I honestly think with Doubs and Watson the Packers have the tools to throw it deep...The MVS speciality. I think the cap savings the Packers saved by not signing MVS can be better used elsewhere. Where that is remains to be seen. Or maybe we already did with one of the extensions or the resigning of Campbell and Douglas.

Time will tell friend...

I always loved watching MVS too. There was one play in 2020 where I think Bahktiari somehow got the ball and MVS was out there blocking for him or something like that and I said that right there is a team player, more of this please. But then 2021 happened and it seemed like our offense just wasn't clicking so I'm glad to see some new faces. Yes player salaries are going up left and right but financially speaking it made sense to let him walk. Hope he has a good year with the Chiefs (just not against the Packers ;)

I agree with this as well. Does MVS have talent? Yes, of course. Was he in a good situation that allowed him to make the most of his talents? Yes. Was he a useful player in the Green Bay offense? Yes.

But is he a complete player like Devante Adams? No.

He has skills, but basically the easiest ones to replace with a younger, cheaper player. I would have been happy to have him back, but not at the contract price the Chiefs gave him.

I certainly wish him the best, and the best as possible for him moving from Aaron Rodgers to Patrick Mahomes. He left a good situation for another good situation, and I’m sure he will flourish.

Good post as always Nick. I agree that MVS made him self replaceable with his consistently low catch percentage and receiving an offer from the Chiefs for $10 million per season.

The combination of Watson and Doubs should cover his departure and for a much smaller hit on the salary cap.

SInce 61’. I agree about his missed catches. Also, for some reason Arod seemed to struggle hitting him on longer pass plays. That one always puzzled me. For me, I wished we could’ve kept him, but not for that money. He was mostly a one-trick pony and should’ve developed more precise route running in 4 years.

Murf I always felt that MVS should have been further along in his development by his 4th season in the league. It seemed that he had reached his ceiling as an NFL receiver.

We’ll see how it works out for him in KC but I doubt if he will ever be better than a #3 NFL WR. Thanks, Since ‘61

For me it is a combo of him not necessarily be an all-around WR, him missing catches and him missing games last season. His catch rate and YPC went down last year, not up, which is what you want to see in a 4th year player.

The number of severely under-thrown passes that Rodgers sent
mvs' way over the years is criminal.

It is actually amazing MVS caught as many as he did. Constantly having to break stride and loop back to the ball.

That's a response that translates to, "I haven't paid attention to the games and looked with my own eyes."

Rodgers never had a 4.37 option at WR who he only tried to hit the deep play on.

What Rodgers did with Cobb, or Nelson, or Adams, or Driver, or J.Jones doesn't have a lick to do with what Rodgers has done with MVS. If I had to guess, Rodgers either didn't trust MVS to shake his man early enough in the play before letting the ball go, or he was too busy waiting for DA to get open before finally attempting to bomb it to MVS.. When a guy has both high acceleration and extreme deep speed like MVS, if you don't get the ball out early on a deep pass attempt, you're going to run out of arm and force your target to break stride, stop, or even run back to the ball.

That happened quite a bit with MVS.

I think replacing MVS will be harder than you believe. Using the 34th pick in the draft might eventually suffice - Jordy went 36th after all. Just being fast does not make a WR a feared deep threat. If he remains healthy, I suspect MVS will crack 1,000 yards in KC.

I do like Watson and Doubs.

I truly appreciate the good discussion about MVS, even if most of it tends to run against my opinion.
The loss of Davante seemed to make the signing of MVS an easy call for the Packers.
After all, if you're going for a Super Bowl, you don't give up two of your starting wide receivers, do you?
Also, you don't count on rookies to step in right away as replacements, right?
Even if one of them does come through for us this season, which is not a given, then it would still be good to have MVS.
***
It is true that MVS is a question mark, but perhaps that's because of lack of opportunities.
We did get a glimpse of his versatility and capability, though, in a huge playoff game against the Bucs a couple of seasons ago.
In that game, he came through at a level of a WR1.
Whether he can produce similarly on a consistent basis is unknown, but he seems well worth a risk of $10 million per season, especially if Davante is getting $28 million.
It seems telling that the Chiefs thought he was worthy, as perhaps the best offense in the NFL.
***
As it is, with all of the excitement about potential at wide receiver for the Packers, each one on the roster is a question mark -- especially for this season -- aside from Lazard.
So, scrimping by letting MVS leave seems penny wise and pound foolish.
To salvage the situation somewhat, maybe we should at least give Lazard an extension before training camp at about $10 million per season over four years or so.
He was a high-volume pass catcher at Iowa State, as I understand it, and is considered a great blocker.
If Lazard even approximates the career of Larry Fitzgerald, he would be a bargain. At the very least he's solid.
What we have now with the Packers at wide receiver is a good measure of possibility and very little that's solid.

When I look at the list of players retained and those no longer on the team I am confident that this team is well managed. Losing Davante wasn't fun but it did allow us to pay some very good players and cash in on a hot WR market - again, astute moves by the front office. If our O-line comes together, this will be the most balanced and playoff ready team since 2014.

I find it hard to say whether the Packers are better overall, worse, or about the same.

This is mainly due to it being hard to balance the steady aging (and release) of players against the acquisitions of the shiny new guys.

If forced to make some kind of overall decision, I'd guess they are a little better overall, even though all the ACLs last year will affect this year. Defense should look better, while Offense might struggle more.

As always injuries will play a big part. Last year had a lot of long-term injuries to key players, which can derail any season. Injuries to players not as key as Bakhtiari, Alexander, Jenkins, Myers etc, are less important.

It would be nice to have few injuries at WR, which would allow the maximum choices, but most positions suffer a considerable drop from the starters (like the 3rd safety, 3rd ILB, 3rd Edge, Clark at DT). Health is such a key factor in stacking wins. The late bye-week might help in that regard, but that depends somewhat on how the season unfolds.

"He should value his arm, not what's on it." Just what does that mean? Most of the league's players are covered in tattoos and if #12 wants a mysterious tattoo, then "good on ya mate." He's always had a spiritual bent (listen to his interview with Danica a couple years back) and maybe the meaning is important to him.

It might not be a distraction at all; what if it is for him a way to focus?

Didn't you just say that "rankings" were unimportant?

LOLOLOL

Congrats to Bakh on his eventful offseason. It sounds to me like he has a head full of distractions to deal with now, let's hope that he can get right physically and MENTALLY and get back to being Bakh.

Amari Rodgers can use whatever leverage he wants to to get himself into the mix this season, weight loss, strength gain, new mojo, new tatoo, ,anything... just become a PLAYER!

I like ARs tatoo. I have a few myself and they are all meaningful to me and my philosophies of life. Good on him for inking up. It is very, very good work too, I am jealous of the craftsmanship the artist put into it.

I like the acquisitions and the extensions. For some reason, I feel that Kevin King may be back with the Packers, on a team friendly deal, by, or near, training camp, if no other team has picked him up. Just a nagging feeling I get. The loss of MVS made it feel like we lost our deep threat, but Doubs and Watson should fill that hole, rather well, hopefully. I also lament the loss of ESB. He was "coming into his own" on the offense and now is a Bear. Again, our newly acquired WRs should make up for his play, this season. GO PACK, GO!!!

I agree on King...I have a feeling he will be back and I would be all for it. He's experienced and has great size. He knows the D and I believe as a role/spot player, could be very effective. And as depth insurance, his policy premium cost would be good value.

Also agree Watson and Doubs will more than replace MVS...Watson with off the charts athleticism, better than MVS...and Doubs with sticky hands who caught a TON of ball in college. Reminds me a bit of Greg Jennings who also came from lower tier college albeit with off the charts receptions, yards and TDs.

I was a fan of ESB but he lost me...he's brittle and so very inconsistent. Taylor beat him out for the 53 but for some reason ESB was elevated from the PS, took Taylor's snaps and didn't produce. No loss.

In the end, we would have been better off giving ESB’s snaps to another receiver such as Taylor, Winfree or Rodgers at this point. Whatever their ceiling, they would have more experience and be more tested. I’ve always thought that someone on the coaching staff or maybe Rodgers was a big fan off ESB and seized the chance to elevate him once he was re-elevated.

In the end, the FO was shown to be right to release him at cut downs and it might have been better to move on then, despite the occasional flash. I really doubt any of the other back ups would have contributed materially less, despite the odd flash from ESB, and possibly more.

ESB was such a tease. He looked like an elite athlete at times, but somehow it didn't come together for him. I worry about him becoming a good player for the Bears. Yes, it is. Our new WRs won't need a bar. We will be fine, there, Another note on ESB is that in the SF playoff game, when Rodgers threw to a double covered Adams, ESB had, at least, a step on his defender down the left sideline as well as Lazard being open underneath the coverage. A throw and catch to and by either one, would have moved the chains and could possibly have changed the outcome, for us.

To me the question of whether we had a net gain or loss in terms of roster movements depends on the time frame against which the answer is given. In the next three years I think we will see this off season as a step forward in capability in terms of skill players.

This year? Well a lot of that depends on the coach being able to develop ways to get production from youth consistently and to broaden usage on offense and ensuring that the QB cooperates. The roster is there, but it’s heavier on potential and will that be realized this year and to what extent is the critical question.

Did you just say ......"I think....this offseason as a step forward in capability in terms of skill players."

Once Upon A Time....when it became apparent the Packers were going to lineup with Rodgers again, we had a lot of discussion here about whether it was possible to put a good team around him and whether it would be better to trade Rodgers. As I recall, you were even more pro "trade Rodgers" than I was. And now, here we are agreeing that we've probably actually improved our skill players.

We dress out two QBs, 9 OL, and 10 skill players. Chief among these is the Aaron Jones/AJ Dillon combo, who account for more than 50% of our plays, and that's relatively unchanged since last year.

At WR, most of the targets go to the top 3 dogs. Last year, that was Adams, Lazard, MVS. This year, I think it'll be Watkins, Lazard, and Amari Rodgers. Lazard might have a better year. Amari Rodgers will almost certainly improve on the 4 catches from last year. And Watkins should certainly catch as many balls as MVS did last year. Our #4 and #5 guys will be the rookies, and they'll be brought along, and if people get injured we'll need them to play more snaps.

The 4 TEs we carry....Lewis, Tonyan, Deguara, and Davis....will probably get more than the 100 targets this unit got last season. It's a good blocking group. It's injury resistant. A team that has a really top TE is always vulnerable to losing him to injury, but when you've got a committee, you aren't affected as much by an injury to a starter.

I agree, I think we stepped forward this offseason in the skill positions. I'm concerned about the Oline, because if they can give Rodgers time to do his job and open holes for the RBs, we're going to be just fine on offense.

For 2022, I highly doubt that GB has improved its offensive skill players. It is much more likely that it is considerably worse. Even in the 3-year time frame, I think it doubtful that improvement has been accomplished.

I don't despair. The improvement in the offense might well come from the return of Bakh, improvement from Nijman, Myers and Newman in particular and possibly additional improvement from Runyan, the addition of Tom and Rhyan (just as decent backups but possibly as challengers at center and the right side), and the return even if at mid-season of Jenkins and Tonyan.

2023's cap looks bad, but once again, it is possible to restructure a bunch of contracts to allow GB to retain most of its players. Won't be pretty, and the FO probably doesn't want to touch the contracts of Clark and Bakh yet again.

We will see. I’m perhaps more excited by Doubs and Toure than you and Watson has massive upside if and when it’s realized. This year though, it’s not likely that any will carry us. But then, despite Adams’ brilliance and the emergence of Dillon, I’d argue that the O was statistically and actually less effective than the year before. It is at least possible that the increasing Adams focus was in fact a negative move overall.

This year, the absence of that option may be as big a factor as any in improving overall (including the O line), if LaFleur can really integrate new players and also utilize more varied formations and options. We will see, because I agree with you that this O will have to adapt. This year will tell us a lot about how good LaFleur really is I believe.

I can’t believe that the FO will touch Bakh’s contract at this point. First we have to see if he can come back, stay healthy and play at the level we are accustomed to consistently. It’s not a given that he’s with us this time next year in my opinion.

I bemoaned the loss of MVS. I felt that he was just getting into a groove with his play. 30 mil was definitely out of reach so there was no choice if the team wanted to keep many of its other players. I could not care less about the tattoos on peoples bodies and feel dirty even discussing it.

I think more is going to happen. The roster is stuck at 89 for some reason, but it always surprises me what they end up doing.

I like rankings only if Packers are ranked too high or too low. One makes them have to prove it, the other gives them a chip on the shoulder. I prefer the chip which ARod has utilized his whole career. Hopefully his playoff chip will kick in soon.

I believe Amari is going to have a great year. Look at all the chips he got, just in these comments alone. HA! Fingers crossed!

Looking at the singing/departure list, I think it's kind of a wash until I look at the offensive line. We lost two reliable guys with no significant signing to replace them. It's not that I don't have confidence in the young guys who are going to have to step up to replace them. They just don't have the experience to make me feel all comfy and warm inside. So yeah, I'm calling it a net negative.

I like Amari in college and thought he was a good pick up in the draft. Like everyone else, I was disappointed last year. He's got to show us something this year.

I care about off-season rankings as much as I care about tattoos. Neither wins games.

Congrats Bak on a great off season. Wow! During his freshman year, who'd a thunk!

what we learned this off season was that there's ways to manipulate the cap, we were all worrying about being in cap hell and especially losing Campbell and Douglas and we retained them and extended others, maybe the whole cap thing is just overblown.

That's like saying "What we;ve learned is there's way to manipulate our income, we were all worrying about being broke and especially losing the TV and the car to collections, but we retained them and even bought a new living room set, maybe the whole living within your means is just overblown"... after running up all your credit cards to the limit.

Sure, we kept some things, but there's a a CC statement that's going to get sent out at the end of the month. We're just making our money issues a problem for the future Packers, that's all.

We're all hopeful but the biggest story will be at WR. Watson and Doubs may turn out to only be younger versions of MVS and EQ, which would be disheartening. Hard to expect much from them early on so it will mainly be Lazard, Watkins, and Cobb. Which is also disheartening. Immediate help from rookie WRs is rare. I doubt we've drafted the next Ja'maar Chase or Jefferson. Those guys are rare. Maybe Watson breaks out, certainly has the physical tools.

Rodgers will have to work really hard to help the WRs get to even being respectable. Maybe the tattoo is an ancient mantra that will keep him calm when they drop his perfect passes.

Don't sleep on Doubs. I have a feeling he will be the steal of Gutey's draft. Watson was my draft crush and was very pleased he was drafted.

But never in my wildest dreams did I think Doubs would last into the 4th. I still cannot believe he did! He's big and runs a 4.5. Catches everything and is outstanding tracking down deep balls. Caught 225 passes, 26 TDs and AVERAGED just UNDER 15 yards/reception in college.

It all comes down to Rodgers, how well he works with the young guys and how patient he is. At least they're being thrown to by a great QB. There's hope, a lot of it, and all three receivers drafted seem talented, intelligent, and hard-working. Could turn out fine but will take time. We'll all need patience.

Both Doubs and Toure got no hype. I had Doubs as a second round talent, certainly so in any normal draft year. I was stunned when we got him where we did. Toure only had one year in a major conference, but he too was one I rated much higher. I think he may surprise many who think of him just as a late 7th rounder. I’m looking forward to seeing if either can seize the opportunity in camp, but on paper getting 2 receivers of that caliber in the 4th and 7th was freakishly fortunate.

Yes, it is July. But I envision Doubs getting a lot of snaps this season as his early production gets him deeply into the game plan. In fact, while I really like the sky high upside of Watson, Doubs is more prepared and polished in the pro-like pass game he played in Nevada with a slinger at QB.

I agree with you CP, I cannot believe he dropped to the 4th round and into 1265 Lombardi.

I the Packers keep 7 WRs, Toure has a great shot to be #7 and he will earn his stars as a ST mainstay.

If you contrast the team that ended the season, with the one that we start this season with, and it's pretty stark.

First, we locked up guys like Douglas and Campbell. We drafted two D studs in Wyatt and Walker. We brought in Jarren Reed. When you're only dressing out 21 defensive players, and you add those 5 to Clark, Alexander, Stokes, Amos, Savage, PSmith, and the others, that's objectively stronger.

Offensively, the attention has been on the loss of Adams/MVS/EQ, and the possible return of Bakhtiari and Jenkins. But we also lost Patrick, and Turner, and even Kelly who started four games for us, including the playoffs. We've drafted some guys, but when you lose 3 of your 9 linemen, and two more are injury cases, then I don't see how we can say our offensive line is better at this point, and if the line isn't better, the offense isn't going to be better.

Last year at this time, we were starting Jenkins at LT and expecting Bakhtiari back, and he didn't come back and Jenkins got hurt. This year, we're starting Bakhtiari and expecting Jenkins back at some point. I'd call that not any better. At center, last year we had an exciting rookie backed up by Patrick. This year, we have a guy coming back from an injury backed up by an unknown. Our RT last year was a dependable Turner, and this year is an unknown.

IMO, we should have maybe made more of an effort to keep Patrick. His contract with the Bears is $8 million for two years, but his cap hit this year is only about $2.5 mllion, and if the Bears don't bring him back next year they don't have to pay him $3.8 million in salary. So that's what it would have cost to keep a reliable, veteran starter at a couple of positions, not a huge sum.

I do hope this doesn't come back on us.

It seems every time we lose someone "in division" it comes back to haunt us. Jimmie Graham and Williams hurt but didn't kill us. This year is worse then normal. Good to great players AND coaches. Can't help but fear this will come back at us.

Patrick was a good pass blocker but a liability in the running game. They drafted 9 OL players in the last three years there's no reason to keep a middling veteran.

I note that you did not mention the loss of Billy Turner. Although his cap number was higher, the savings was just over $3M, IIRC. Turner was a capable RT and could play RG as well.

I do think that means GB is confident in Nijman holding down the fort, perhaps all season or at least until Jenkins returns. Given the way the draft unfolded, they picked up some pieces that might be able to kick out to RT or allow another player to do so.

As to the latter part of my second paragraph, I really like Tom as a potential center. Given his size, he is not ideal as an OT but he has good feet. After the draft fell the way it did and the FO selected the guys it selected, I am okay with not re-signing Patrick. Pretty okay with not re-signing Turner, though I am big on the keeping the team strong in the trenches, so losing both does make me a bit uncomfortable. I think Nijman won't have too much trouble moving to RT if that's the plan since he has played there before, but I suppose that remains to be seen. GB has a bit of money and could try to shore up a position, though I'd focus on another DB and/or a #3 OLB over OL. What they do probably ends up having more to do with the fit of players who become available. Might not be any good OLBs who some team deems superfluous and who fit GB's money constraints, for example.

I agree with you on Tom at C. I’m a little concerned to learn that Myers will need to wear knee braces. He is not an established player at this point and we need an alternative. Tom seems like a guy with the required mental acuity to be a real option as a rookie.

To me, age was a factor with Turner. With all the draft picks and the emergence of guys like Nijman and the cap position it just seemed like they decided that it was time to move on and back youth. I was surprised we just released him though. The same could be said of Patrick.

Rather like at WR, we made a number of moves that might have not improved us this year but may do next. Perhaps we weren’t expecting Rodgers to return at that point or perhaps we think we can do as well with what we have. It’s also possible we were more confident in Bakh than we are as outsiders or subsequent progress justifies?

I hope they let Tom compete for the starting spot at C. Myers had a couple good games but had a couple duds too. Early days yet but going Myers over Humphrey is still a head scratcher for me. Not sure where they'll have Rhyan competing but I'd guess it's RG/RT with Newman depending on where Nijman is lining up.

I thought Nijman improved as the season went on and think he'll be fine at RT but I'd like to see him take a majority of his practice snaps there and I'm sure they'll give Bakhtiari rest days so I doubt that happens. I'm think they'll try a bunch of combinations and settle on the best 5 after the 2nd or 3rd preseason game.

I have my system when I look at the various "rankings".

If my favorite players are listed, I'm happy. If they are not listed, then the ranker "has not idea what he is doing".

Works every time! 😁

How can you write an article about and not know what position a guy plays? Amari Rodgers is not a running back!

Of course I know his position. But at my age, sometimes the synapses get crossed up! I likely wrote running back because I was thinking about how sluggish he looked running with the ball.

To me he looked bemused and a bit like a rabbit in headlights. Whether it is mental, physical or both, I agree that a dramatic change in play speed needs to be seen to justify keeping him to develop further. Without that, the ceiling isn’t worth the investment.
