Aaron Rodgers Will Be Packers QB in 2021

A few words have many speculating on Aaron Rodgers' future with the Green Bay Packers. However, don't worry; he will be the quarterback in 2021.

Well, as I type this we are only about 12 hours removed from the Green Bay Packers' season ending, and we are already discussing Aaron Rodgers' future. I have to say, and maybe I was naive, but after the season he put together, I didn't think this would be much of a conversation this offseason. Yet, here we are having it.

During his post-game interview, Rodgers was asked about the future, and a few simple words have led to many speculating that he has played his final snaps in Green Bay. You can find his full answer to the question below -- and I highly recommend listening to the entire thing -- but his statement that has grabbed everyone's attention was "a lot of guys futures, they're uncertain, myself included."

I'm going to begin with the same thing I said on Twitter Sunday night: I've been wrong before, but Aaron Rodgers is going to be the Green Bay Packers' quarterback in 2021.

Let's start with the obvious, and that is that Rodgers is under contract for the 2021 season. In fact, he's under contract through the 2023 season. He comes with a cap hit of $37.57 million in 2021, according to Spotrac, and sure, Green Bay could save about $6 million in cap space if they did trade him, but they would still incur a dead cap hit of $31.5 million. And they would be doing so in an offseason where the salary cap is shrinking.

I mean, could the Packers make it work financially if they really felt they had to? I suppose. But after the season Rodgers had, why would they?

This brings me to my next point, Rodgers is about to win his third MVP award. He was the commander of the most productive offense in the NFL, threw for 4,299 yards with 48 touchdowns to only five interceptions, and he had a ridiculous completion percentage of 70.7 percent. On top of that, he had the highest passer rating in the NFL at 121.5.

Yes, I know, the Green Bay Packers drafted Jordan Love, but moving on from Rodgers after the season he just had to start a quarterback that is still a relative unknown would be such an incredibly foolish move by Brian Gutekunst. There is no way that he could justify doing so to the fans, coaches, and the players in the locker room.

After the game, LaFleur was asked about Rodgers' future, and with certainty, he had this to say:

"I sure as hell hope so. I mean, the guy is the MVP of this league. He's the heart and soul of our football team. So, hell yeah. He better be back here. He's our leader."

That's not coach speak; if you don't really think that LaFleur wants Rodgers back under center, I'm not sure what to tell you. Since Gutey and LaFleur joined forces two years ago, they have appeared to be in lockstep the entire way. I just don't see how LaFleur could feel this strongly about Rodgers while Gutekunst feels the exact opposite. Also, when Rodgers signed his record breaking deal in 2018, wasn't this the hope? That we'd see him return to MVP form. Well, he has.

So if the Packers aren't moving on from Rodgers, is he going to retire? Rodgers has numerous times discussed his desire to play into his 40s, and as crushing of a loss as this NFC Championship game was, I highly doubt that one game has changed his mindset and the trajectory of his entire career path.

I imagine many reading this have competed before at some level, and you have likely had the gutted feeling after a tough loss. But I'm also going to guess that the fire to get back after it returned a short while later as well. Maybe it was a day, maybe it was a week, but it returned. Rodgers is the ultimate competitor; this is not how it's going to end for him.

I've also seen speculation that Rodgers could "force" his way out of Green Bay. Like with many things I can't sit here and tell you with 100 percent certainty that won't happen, anything is possible I suppose, but again, what evidence is there to suggest this is in play?

Throughout his career, Rodgers has talked about how special it is to be a Green Bay Packer and how he wants to finish his career here. Could he just be saying that? Again, I can't say with certainty but I can say with a lot of confidence that he's meant what he's said. And if he did want to leave, where is a realistic landing spot for him that's a better option than Green Bay? The Packers are 26-6 the last two seasons with back-to-back trips to the NFC Championship Game. The grass isn't always greener, as they say.

Lastly, I wanted to touch briefly on Rodgers' comment, where he says "myself included" when discussing the Packers' future. Since the Jordan Love pick, he has made it clear that he is very aware that he may not finish his career with the Green Bay Packers--and he absolutely might not. And while yes, technically, the Packers could save cap money by moving on from him as I discussed above, for all the reasons that I've mentioned, it really makes zero sense.

To put a bow on all of this, Ryan Wood of Packers News summed up his interpretation of what Rodgers said quite well, and if you listen to his entire response rather than just scrutinizing two words from every angle, this makes a heck of a lot of sense.

"To me, Aaron Rodgers sounded like QB who knows his best chance at SB was ripped away today. He knows cap situation next year, and that Packers will make tough calls that likely lessen the team. He also knows time is short. Not sure I’d look any deeper than that. Just my $.02."

Hey, I get it; it was a tough loss in a game that many -- including myself -- thought the Packers were going to win. But there is no reason to hit the panic button on Rodgers' future for the 2021 season because of a few words that he said just minutes after suffering what I imagine is one of the worst losses of his career.

Take a step back, evaluate the entire situation, and it's pretty easy to see that Rodgers will be the quarterback in 2021 for the Green Bay Packers.

Brady is solid, but look what a great defense can do. Brady threw 3 picks and his team still won?? That is unheard of. Brady didn't win this game, his defense did.

Look what a great defensive coordinator can do. Todd Bowles was playing combo zones with man and keeping Adams bracketed all game. Should have been more action to the RBs out of the backfield. Where the hell was Tonyan on those redzone possessions?

Brady was average yesterday, and he proved in the second half that if you want to beat him "just" apply pressure. I say "just" not because he is great, but because his OL is really, really good.

The Packers WILL NOT trade Rodgers next year or the year after that. It is so hard to acquire an MVP quarterback and we have had that position filled for the last quarter century by two of the best to ever play the game. Simply look what the Bears have had behind center for that same quarter of a century. Rodgers is the next thing to a national treasure for Green Bay and I hope he stays here for his entire career.

This management will never go "all in" and Rodgers knows that so that plays into his disappointment I'm sure..maybe its time to see what the great Love has to offer and make a deal to allow Arod to try somewhere else...

Tire kickers and used car dealers do not make for good football people. Get the D line upgraded, draft a CB with a high pick and get another OT by the third round. Bhaktiari likely will be on the PUP when next season begins.
Bring in a couple bad ass veterans to get the mindset focused on payback, not retreat.

Do you think after getting whopped by stud middle linebackers for a couple seasons now Gutey would get the hint that you can't wait till the 4th round or later to find a stud? This defense looks much different with a stud MLB....

I can’t totally agree. I think gutey is more aggressive and trying to put the pieces together. Just look at the 4 large FA contracts two years ago for proof. He also tried for multiple people throughout the year. They have some major SC issues to deal with as well so you can only go so far....all in.

Of course the Packers would never trade Rodgers, just like they never traded Favre and just like they never traded up to take a QB in round 1 while Rodgers still had 4 years left on his contract in 2020.

NEVAH GONNA HAPPEN.

This is the Packers we are talking about after all, they care ONLY ABOUT WINNING SUPER BOWLS rather than focusing on remaining competitive in the future and being satisfied with winning NFC North titles.

Yeah, but you forget 3 consecutive years Brett was like this: "I'm going to retire, I'm not going to retire. Sorry, I'm retiring, or, oh wait, I'm not retiring. Maybe I should retire, or not. No, no, I will retire, please prepare papers, oh, I forget, today starts camp, sorry will I not retire!" Sounds familiar? He forced Packers to send him to hell, to tease his wife and kids, not the entire organization. They made right decision to kick him out of Green Bay.

Today when you saw Aaron Rodgers less elusive, less capable to scan the field, when game started to speed up to him (before he was way ahead of game!), when his accuracy started slowly to sneak away, you are willing to ruin next 10 to 15 years of the franchise because you are not big man to accept loss in the game Aaron Rodgers from 2010 or 2014 would win with no problem? Yeah, sure, right!

Aaron i s different person than Brett Favre, who was selfish and thinking only about himself. He might changed by years, understanding his flows and finding a way to become better person, but at the time Brett was just another selfish bastard. How years of misery affected you is showed how much you love that selfish person who "finally" brought to the team SB win after all those years. But the real question was if that was Brett or that was Reggie who really brought back the Lombardi?

If you believe that only one player can make that difference, why he is not playing alone? There is complete team needed to win the ultimate goal.

This Packers today, have one big problem, not the D, it is ST excluding Mason. D is average with 2 superb players and several above average players (Smiths, Adrian, Gary, Savage). Packers has excellent WRs, very good TEs, intriguing RBs and solid OL with the best LOT in the league. There is holes to fill, but every team has those holes, on different positions.

Still, you are not satisfied. You want to build superstar team no matter what. You are prepare to give all 3 draft picks from this year draft as well as next 10 seasons draft to win the SB. And what if that will not happen.

You will be claiming that this is not what you wanted today!

Sad!

Rodgers will be here until age Forty or longer if he wishes. The CHTV collective called the correct shots during the off-season to secure D line help and when Tramon moved on, nothing was done to bring in another playmaker, depending instead on scrubs and a failed draft pick to secure the flank.

I wish the Packers trade him to the Colts or 49 ers so he can win it all, they drafted Love and Dillon last year for the future and a funny thing happened , Rodgers was good and Gutey and Murphy got caught off guard by this because they thought he was done , gave him no help , awful special teams ,went with the 26 th ranked punter all season And stuck with Pettine a coach he plays afraid and cautious and we watched Kevin King play soft all season , nobody to blame here except Gutenkist and Murphy .

I agree Lphill,
Packer fans got screwed when Magic Mark got power hungry and changed the organizational structure to satisfy his ego.
Gutekunst couldn't carry Ron Wolf's jock, he's Ted Thompson Part 2, and a guy with no choice but to stay in line and do what Murphy says, a position Wolf turned down once and would have never accepted any time, anywhere.

Worse yet, trading up to get a QB that couldn't find a uniform for a single game this year, with so many other legitimate needs?. How many first round picks have you seen or ever heard of that were inactive for their entire rookie season? Nada!
Buy 'em a bus ticket and show 'em the same door as Pettine.

I would not blame Rodgers if he asked to be traded. The management of the Packers simply don't do enough to get SB talent. The Bucs did for Brady. Rodgers knows this and must be frustrated. At this point, he will have to go elsewhere to get his 2nd ring.

I agree. 12 is playing for rings at this point and GB can't give him that next year (salary cap is a mess - must let quality starters go). So why would he stay? Answer - he won't. He will force himself out of GB, quietly, behind teh scenes.

I think Rodgers will be back as well. However, he could decide to retire. He has enough money, so that is not a factor. He has just won his 3rd MVP so he has nothing left to prove in terms of player performance.

He is a smart guy and he could just as easily figure out why should he risk some type of permanent injury when he is still healthy? The only thing to continue to play for is another SB. But is it worth it? That is the question he needs to answer for himself.

If he decides, yes, it is, then he is doing it for his ego, which is the very issue that many posters here complain about Rodgers.

Does Rodgers ego and his enjoyment of playing outweigh his long term health and enjoyment of his wealth over his lifetime? My guess is that he will be back but maybe he wants to see if the Packers will legitimately improve the team around him first. Who could blame him if he decided to walk away from it while he still can? Thanks, Since ‘61

The Plan has to be Rodgers at QB in 2021. (Yes, it starts today for us). To borrow a word from our fearless leader, don’t panic.

The #1 offense returns many of the same pieces. We'll have to replace the production of Jones/Williams, and we’ll need to do a better job up front. We need to protect our QB better.

I expect us back in the Championship game next year, with a better team, with Rodgers at QB.

The team has areas for improvement, no doubt. But we’re 28-8 with two division titles and an 11-1 dominance in the division. We’re all unhappy about yesterday but we’re still better off than Lions fans. Or 49ers, or Seahawks, or the Cowboys.

Priority #1 , IMO, would be a plan that can protect Rodgers against the best defensive fronts in the league.

Did MLF panic? IMO yes, he panicked and he did it at the absolute worst time he could have during his 36 game career in GB, the NFC Championship Game.

I've admitted more than once I was wrong about MLF...They DID hire the right coach. BUT what happened on Sunday was something I thought we would have seen a whole lot more of by now...His inexperience in situations like this shone bright.

This wasn't a regular season game, this was the NFCCG where everything was scrutinized and put under a microscope. He had just watched his All Pro, 3 time MVP QB throw 3 incompletions AND not try and run it in on 3rd down. Even though I have my doubts Rodgers makes it, he still gains valuable yards getting them close.

MLF screwed up BUT I think it was a great learning experience for a really great HC. I think if the same situation happens again next year or the year after he doesn't hesitate. He'll go for it.

Rodgers will not retire and he will be back in 2021. Not even a question about that! After 2021 I think is the question. All going to be whether Love is showing real promise or not.

The Pack will not let both RB's leave. Most likely Williams is resigned to go with Dillon. Dillon will become the main RB with Williams playing the same role he has been. Plus, Rodgers loves Williams.

They can get two RBs from this draft class with speed and fast feet. Keep loading up. Funchess may show something if he comes onboard. I would bag a fast Slot WR by the third. No need for another lanky guy who cannot get sepration. Watching Hill yesterday was amazing. Speed to the spot. Rodgers holds the ball because the wides are Covered.

Rodgers is the greatest QB in the history of football. The stats say so. But stats are for geeks. They’re mostly compiled against lesser teams when the pressure valve is almost shut off. We have to be honest. In huge games, not big but hugely important games, the game you need to win to get to the SB, he is 1-4. We blame defense, refs, McCarthy, yesterday it was LaFleur making the worst and most cowardly call in the history of the NFL, but Rodgers had the ball most of the 4th quarter and did nothing. Nothing to show he could handle the pressure. The play calling, the failure to see the field, the slow pace, and continual running down of the play clock. Sorry. He’s a sensational generational talent and maybe there are explanations and rationals and he doesn’t play in a vacuum and King is bad and Pettine sucks and Z and Gary were invisible and, and, and... but in the end he had the ball in his hand for numerous plays with the game on the line and didn’t get it done. That’s what was in Rodgers's heart and mind during the press conference. He’s smart. He knows.

A little harsh but fundamentally accurate. Better O-line play and playcalling that kept the defense guessing would have helped. Still, Rodgers had numerous chances in the second half and couldn't get the job done. It may have been the influence behind not going for it on 4th down. If he stays we'll win our share of games but I doubt Rodgers lead us to this level again.

I don't disagree with you, but to say 1 player is the reason for the loss is too simple. The OL was bad, no running game, the Bucs D was playing well, the coaching, the refs etc...all had a piece of the loss - I guess the QB (IMO) gets too much credit and too much blame. Like Brady getting credit for the win....he did some nice things, but some bad things that should have caused his team to lose.

I am not saying that at all for the reason you cite (o-line, play calling, Bucs defense). Rodgers in regular season was very good when stats are easier to come by. In the playoffs, when the best teams rise to the top and pressure has been turned up he and the team (coaches included) didn't shine as bright. I am not sure that getting another year or two older is going to increase our chances of getting to the dance.

Stats are for liars and manipulators!

Not to down play what you share Johnnylogan, but while Rodgers stats are great how do you rate and compare him to being a leader and motivator? He is the leader on the field but he is only 1 & 4 in NFC Championship games, and he has only 1 SB ring. How does Rodgers compare to QB's such as say Brady, or Montana as examples?

During the game the TV network showed Rodgers passing statistics for all those NFC Championship games and they were not good. Not even close to his regular season stats. What does that say to you?

It tells you Bhaktiari was out, Keke was out of the D line rotation already thin with Montravious and Winn out;
Barnes was knocked out of the game As well as A.Jones. Kirksey couldn't figure out the green dot responsibility after being on the damn team all season and Summers was shuffled in for command and control. That left Martin out of the rotation when they needed him to pair along side Kirksey. The Onus of this loss falls on many shoulders, but the defense did not deliver the key plays at the end of the first half and that was the nominal difference.

Rodgers knows that a reduced salary cap and the annual roster turnover all but eliminates a Packer Super Bowl in the near term.
This is probably as close as he gets with this organization. Gutekunst made the future more a focus rather than a dedicated run for all the marbles. The Love pick defined this strategy.

Rodgers is obviously disappointed but he knows what is ahead. An O-line rebuild, run game changes, numerous defensive changes and the need for more playmakers (that we can't afford) are next steps that will take time. If he wants another ring, it won't happen in Green Bay. Unfortunately, the contract extension has made this all very messy.

Couldn't disagree more. O-line will be very good next year even without Linsley. Packers still better than any team in their division. There will be no need to draft a QB in round one so CB or DL help to come. They will likely make the playoffs. Rodgers will have more opportunities. But he and LaFleur have two fails. They're going to have to be honest and realize they were a major cause of the fails and do better.

Sorry but our O-line was awful yesterday against a good D-line and it won't be getting better soon. They won't/can't pay for Linsley, Wagner is done, Patrick is very average and sorry to inform all of you but Billy Turner is versatile but not very good. It was a stretch to play Turner at LT but he is very average even when on the right side. Wait, when will Bak be ready?

So we need a starting RT, Center, left cornerback, a good linebacker, 2 d-linemen, RB to replace Jones, slot WR. Given that we are at or beyond the cap most of these need to be draft homeruns.

Why all the changes, Razer?

I mean, why not just bring back the #1 offense minus Linsley, Jones, and Williams. Get Bakhtiari, Deguara, and Ervin back? Add some meat to a pretty good OL group?

Defensively, the only guy that will have to be replaced is King, who will leave in FA.

My point is that we’re gonna be good again next year. Maybe better. And there won’t be a ton of changes.

Two concerns LH: Bahk won't be back until mid-season or later. Big guys usually take a year to recover from an ACL and that puts his return into December. Not sure I want Turner and Wagner as the starting tackles for most of the season. Plus they will have to draft someone to replace Wagner in 2022 anyway since he will be about done by then.

Are you sure King will be the only loss on defense? TGR has made a pretty good case that the Packers must shed several existing veteran contracts just to get to the salary cap and King isn't one of those existing contracts. I suspect P. Smith and Kirksey could well be cap casualties and that would put a dent in the defense.

Kirksey seemed to play better as the season progressed, but he needs a pay cut. P Smith could be a guy to trade at draft time. They will need at minimum two CBs from the draft and now an OT with a high pick to cover the flank.

I think it matters. It’s very helpful to know you can line up a savvy vet with a good arm.

Rodgers needs time to do his thing, and he was hurried all day yesterday. Still, the two biggest nails in our coffin were a coaching breakdown at the end of the first half and a fumble to begin the second, neither of which involved Rodgers.

What was the urgency to pass so much? Rogers threw 33/48 and only 16 rushing attempts? What was this all about? I agree with Nags. Run the ball some more.

If they trade Rodgers before 6/1 they would take a hit of 31.5 on their salary cap. If they trade Rodgers after 6/1 it would only be a 14 million dollar hit. Do I think they will trade him NO.!!! But GUTE better pull his head out of his ass and draft some really physical defensive ball players. Buc's clearly targeted #20 and #39 on defense and practically any LB the packers had on the field. And lets be honest their Defensive line man handle the packers O-line totally wiping out the run game. They sacked Rodgers 9 times in two games. Brady is just going along for the ride he is surrounded by a very physical and talented group of ball players. Packers needs so much help on defense and special teams... Just imagine if Brady was the QB for the Packers and Rodgers was the QB for the Buc's... The result would have been the same IMO.. Maybe the Buc's would have scored more points.

They moved the ball with Dillon and a HB putting the crush off-tackle, but rarely used this. They ran the same plays with Jones that were Ineffective back in October. When the fans Sober up by the end of the month, they will realize Bhak was not on the field, Rick Wagner was playing hurt and Turner did his best w/out help.
The first half game plan should have put the meat-grinder on Tampa's front to wear them out. We saw the Pack move the ball in the fourth qtr, but the two major FUs by King and Jones fumble would be difficult for any team to overcome, including Vince.

I feel confident Rodgers will be the QB in 2021. His future after that will really be dependent on the improvement of Love. If Love looks very strong with quite a bit of upside next year (need to play him a lot in camp and pre-season, as well as bits and pieces of games when they are under control) I say shuttle Rodgers prior to him turning 39-years old and get what you can for him in a trade. This is a young man's game. Rodgers is a very talented player but he also costs a lot against the cap hindering the team retaining talented players and in going after others in FA. Plus, Rodgers stats in NFC Championship games have been somewhat dismal when you compare all the games. This last game shows the team needs a fair amount of talent infusion at about 6 positions, plus Special Teams.

Rodgers has taken the Packers as far as any HOF quarterback could. If Rodgers wants to keep playing for a perennial division contender until he is ground to pieces like Manning , Brees and Rothlesburger, he will be back in 21 and beyond. I'm not sure why he would want to. it ain't going to get any better. His option is to demand a satisfactory trade, in which case the Packers could recoup something for Rodgers loss, or retire. I'm sure there are a number of teams that would be a good fit, and the Packers would rather get something rather than nothing.

Remember Big Ben? He was all done not long ago. He missed most of a season with injury and came back. These guys never want to retire and Rodgers knows he has a lot of football left. In a few weeks he'll be chomping at the bit and waiting for the season to start, especially after the lime light of the awards show. They should trade Love and see if they can get another 1st round pick.

Why would any team, with sense, give a 1st rd pick to GB for a 1st rd pick that couldn't earn a suit-up for a single game over Tim Boyle. One would have thought it would have happened at least after week 10. Sheesh.

Seems to me that unless LF starts making better in game decisions we will never get to the Super Bowl with him. He talked about running more before this game but with 6 plays, inside the opponents 10, we didn’t run once! First and goal at the 6 and no pile driving Dillion at least once? The FG at the end was a pathetic call. You think Reid doesn’t let Mahomes take that shot? I know he is young but some of his decisions are insane. I’m not a LF hater but he needs to up his game before the team can up theirs. And oh yea, fire Pettine already. Why weren’t we in a deep shell coverage last play before the half? King plays 8 yards off when it’s 3 and 3 but knowing the pass has to go to the endzone he plays up?

A little creativity on offense is badly needed. Did you see that underhanded TD flip from Mahomes to Kelce in the AFCCG? How helpful would a clever little play like that have been in short yardage situations throughout the season?

And Dillon? I don't remember him getting any touches until the third quarter. Why? You have to use all your resources in an elimination game....

Do I think we will trade Rodgers, probably not as I have heard no buzz as to how good Love has performed. HOWEVER, if you are looking to trade somebody and get a bunch in return perhaps this is when you sell high. How many first round picks could we get? Could we get a Bosa or a Quenton Nelson plus several first round picks? We will likely move on from Aaron at some point soon and if management believes that Love is the guy perhaps we can get him a bunch of extra first round talent to help him. Removing the emotions of it and thinking of the team moving forward it could and maybe should happen if a quality trade is out there.

I figured you would be the one to come up with that comparison.

John Hadl was an old washed up QB, with an over his head GM (Devine) when that horrible trade was made. Aaron Rodgers is a no-doubt-it first ballot HOFer, coming off a MVP season. Ridiculous analogy.

But still...he will be 38 next year and 1-4 in NFCC games. Name me one GM, not named Ryan Pace, who would give up multiple 1st round picks. I can think of two....and they're both out of the league. Matt Millen and Bill O'Brian

John Hadl played 22 games for the Packers, throwing for 9 TDs and 29 INTs and a 7-15 record.

Pretty sure that's the definition of washed up.

And he was never a league MVP.

Yeah, they called it Player of the Year then.

No they didn't call it Player of the Year back then.
OJ Simpson was the league MVP the year Hadl got traded to the Packers.

As far as you having no idea what my point was, I'm not sure why you jumped into the conversation in the first place.

My point was to another poster that with Rodger's salary and how it would destroy GB's salary cap, there is no way GB is trading him this offseason. For some reason, just to argue I suppose, you come up with some ridiculous example of a trade 50 years ago when there were no cap ramifications to factor into trades.

Does that clear it up for you?

There bottom line comes down to what Rodgers wants.

If he wants to just collect his salary and sail off as a very rich man he'll come back to GB for at least another season.

If he wants to win a SB he'll go elsewhere because it's never going to happen in GB.

Our coaching sucks. How many times was defense trying to get off the field too late. MLF apologizes again for a major mistake bykicking a field goal instead usingTHe MVP quarterback to score a touchdown. .And our GM drafts 3 years ahead and doesn't get the players we need now.

Rodgers keeps this team going but he needs great players. I would ask for a trade maybe not next year but afterwards. Hopefully he won't get injured again.

my two cents, this loss hurt a lot and if next year is a drop off, he is done, trade city. just like Farve, got to know when to fold em.
I say next year is his last as a packer, couple more years like Brady going to a contender then adios.
He ain't sticking around while the defense struggles stopping a simple pass.

The Packers have learned one thing, never let a legend with rubber left on the treads to walk. First, theres no way in hell they could let him loose this year, the cap hit would be absurd. Second what the hell do you trade him for?? Id have a hard time trying to figure how much he'd be worth. With (insert qb name) as our starter, the Packers are a 500 club, no better. We've seen that when AR was injured. I for one hope Rodgers finishes his career in Green Bay, as Bart Starr did long ago Be thankful for what we've been given folks. GO PACK and STAY AR!!

GB is where they were in 08' with Favre and Rodgers. GB didn't believe Favre can get them to the SB anymore and went with Rodgers, and it paid off quickly. Now it appears that Rodgers is now in the Favre spot where after this failure the FO may not believe in Rodgers and will make the move to Love. After Favre won his SB and losing the next year, he never got there again, as like Rodgers now missing out for 10 years, as like Favre.

The earliest he bails is 2023. One sportswriter hit the lead when he noted Rodgers probably wants more cash as his compensation is now lower than the other top dogs. The CAP will probably be in the 180-185M range for 2021. The NFL is still making money. The increase in television AD frequency is no accident.

I think the only question for 2021 is, "Does he want to be back?" The Packers have a $25M salary cap hole to fill. How is that going to happen? If the defense is gutted, the running back stable is emptied, Bakh is struggling with his recovery or any or all of the above, does Rodgers just decide it is time to move on?

It was obvious to me that we sure could have used David Bakhtiari to help keep Jason P. Paul off Aaron's back yesterday. I sure he was disappointed as well not to be in the game after playing as the best left tackle in the NFL for the entire season. Turner did his best but he is much better suited to play as our right guard/tackle.

I don't understand Gutekunst's strategy for building the Packer team. On one hand, prior to the 2018 season he signed Rodgers to an extension that would keep him under contract through the 2023 season. At the time, it was the largest contract ever given to an NFL player and it was done when Rodgers still had two years remaining on his current contract. This would seem to signal the Packers were all in with Rodgers.

Prior to the 2019 season, Gutekunst decided to go all in by signing four Unrestricted Free Agents (UFAs) to very generous contracts. Again, it looked liked the Packers were all in with Rodgers. The Packers then proceeded to go 13-3 and get to the NFC Championship Game,

During the offseason prior to the 2020 season, Gutekunst made only two minor UFA signings - Rick Wagner and Christian Kiriksey - and then traded up to select QB Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 draft. The Packers played 18 games during the 2020 season and Love was a healthy scratch for all 18 games. This is something you would do if you are building for the future, rather than trying to take the next step forward. It seems like Gutekunst had given up on trying to make the next step and win a Super Bowl. He had a first ballot HOF QB on his roster and made moves last offseason that would indicate that he didn't believe the team could make the next step. He made no moves that would improve the 2020 team - the only newcomers that impacted the 2020 Packers were AJ Dillon (for one game) and Krys Barnes, an undrafted free agent.

Imagine if Gutekunst had believed in the 13-3 2019 Packers and made moves to improve the 2020 Packers. How about using that #1 pick and the #4 pick they traded away to pick players to help the team this year? Maybe the team could withstand the loss of David Bakhtiari or have a capable backup to Kevin King?

I believe the cardinal sin made by Gutekunst was not having a solid objective and making personnel moves that were consistent with that objective. And, now we have an unhappy Rodgers and a team ready to take heavy casualties in the free agent market. Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Corey Linsley, and Kevin King may all be gone next year.

2020 was the year to go all-in and the Packer brass didn't realize what they had. So sad!

So it’s pile on Gute day? Let’s see.. he assembled a team that ended up with the #1 seed in the NFC and was playing at home for a chance to go to the Super Bowl . Realistically three plays probably kept us from the Super Bowl. You can pick from several but my three are the TD before the half, Adams dropping the TD pass, and Jone’s fumble. Gute put this team in a position to win and as with the Seattle meltdown we had every chance to win this game. Now the trade up for Love is a whole different story so don’t get me started on that
