Around the NFC North – Week 7

The Packers look to stay on pace as the teams around the NFC North begin to even out on the young season.

Chicago Bears

Yesterday, the Bears fell to 3-2 on the year with a 31-28 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.  In a game that featured a slow first half where the Dolphins led 7-0 at halftime, Chicago came out of the gates in the second half with Trubisky and the Bears offense putting up 21 points in the third quarter and taking a 21-13 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

As the Bears offense found success, their defense made Dolphins backup quarterback Brock Osweiler the hero of the game as he was able to lead the Dolphins from behind to tie the game in the waning minutes and force overtime.  During overtime, the Bears had an opportunity to win the game but kicker Cody Parkey missed from 53 yards.  The Dolphins took the ball from there and drove within range of kicker Jason Sanders, who delivered the game-winning shot from 47 yards.

The loss suddenly brings the Bears back to reality as they look to host the New England Patriots this coming Sunday at Soldier Field.  The biggest concern for the Bears this week will surely be the way the defense folded in the second half and allowed Osweiler to put up 380 yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings took care of business at home against the visiting Arizona Cardinals by a score of 27-17 yesterday.  In a game they should have dominated on paper, the Vikings pounded running back Latavius Murray on the ground to the tune of 155 yards and one touchdown.  While quarterback Kirk Cousins didn’t put up monstrous numbers, he continues to find wide receiver Adam Thielen at a consistent pace.  Thielen finished the game with 11 catches for 123 yards and one touchdown.

With the Vikings moving to 3-2-1 on the season, they head to MetLife Stadium this Sunday to face the up and down New York Jets.  The scare moving forward for the Vikings right now is a knee injury sustained by rookie cornerback Mike Hughes during the fourth quarter of the game against the Cardinals.  The injury is feared to be a torn ACL and if true, the loss of the young upstart cornerback will be a loss to the Vikings defense.

Detroit Lions

After sitting idle on their bye in week six, the Lions remain at 2-3 on the season and sit just behind the division leaders.  The Lions head to Miami this Sunday to take on the now 4-2 Dolphins who will be riding the high of pulling off the win against the Bears.  If the Lions want to stay in the dogfight for the NFC North, this is a game that they need to win on the road to stay on pace.

The Bears lost like I thought they would. The Vikings beat a rookie QB at home like I thought they would. Now Chicago should be 3-3 after next weekend and Tom Brady. The Vikings game against the Jets is a total trap game. The Jets defense isn't bad and they seem to score points. Hell they hung 48 on the Lions and won, and have scored 42 and 34 in their 2 other wins which is something the Packers have failed to come close to.

THIS game against the 49ers IS a "Must Win Game" IMO. The Packers have a chance to head into the bye-week on a high note and IMO this shouldn't even be close. It's week 6, Rodgers practiced fully on Saturday I believe it was so hopefully each one of these "Full Practices" help get him on the same page as anyone not named Adams...(I'm looking at you Jimmy Graham). It's also a perfect week to actually try and give Aaron Jones 20 - 25 touches.

As much as I'd like to see Monty and Jones on the field at the same time, I'd almost prefer they wait until the Rams game to show that (Well if McCarthy has even designed plays for them that is). It seems EVERYBODY has chalked up losses for the Packers against the 49ers and Rams and the way they've played rightfully so. But if this team is really a SB team, really a playoff contender, should we really be counting on them to lose both of those games?

IF the pack drop to the 9ers tonight then they can fight the lions for the last place position the rest of the year.
Wow the Bear defense was gassed by halftime due to the oppressive humidity. They did go down a day early to try and get acclimated to it but that isnt enough time.
Smart that Miami uses a lot of screens to wear out defenses and make them run a lot. Mack was non existent in the game

Bears lose, Vikings win, and Lions had a bye.
Seems like this week the North has balanced out a bit.

Now its up to GB to keep pace.

Will this be the game they find some rhythm for 4 quarters?

Plain and simple they need to play better. Rodgers needs to take what the defense give him.

Hopefully tonight gets Wisconsin sports back on track after a horrible Saturday!

I mean seriously.

Badgers were a MESS!
Brewers lose a game that I thought they were going to pull out a win for most of the game.

And the great Jim Taylor passes away.

Just a really bad day for a Wisconsin Sports fan!

Plus...Mack injured in game and after his return, he played mostly on 3rd downs and lined up wide.
Result was ZERO sacks by Bears D in game!!!!

PACK win tonight can make everything waaaaay better!

Vikings also fear that Mike Hughes tore his ACL. Rough day for NFC North defensive players.

There is no way the Packers will lose tonight. SF is playing for nothing and will most likely sit questionable injured players. This should be a game for the young WR's to get some valuable game experience. It would be nice to see this over before halftime like the Buffalo game. Half the plays called should be running plays, AJ goes over 100. Will MM leave us all scratching our heads again?

Not a must win for the playoffs but a must win to show that the team can fix itself. If they don't dominate after last weeks embarrassment, then it will be another indicator that MM cannot get this team ready - mentally or scheme-wise - to win. They should rack up the points even if they are up 35-0 at the half and make it a 70-0 final score. (exaggerating 'just' a bit).

If they lose, I would fire MM immediately (after calling for his head for the last few seasons anyway).

Pacman would you make Pettine the intern HC if you fired MM, Philbin, go outside, bring back MacAdoo?
