Blake Bortles headed back to Green Bay
The veteran quarterback was with the Packers this offseason.
By PackerAaron
From ESPN :
Veteran QB Blake Bortles is flying to Green Bay with the expectation he will sign to the Packers’ practice squad and be eligible for the 53-man roster Sunday, per source. Bortles was on the Packers’ roster this summer until Aaron Rodgers reported.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) November 3, 2021
Bortles will at least have some familiarity with the offense and will be Jordan Love's primary backup in Kansas City.
In 78 career games, Bortles has thrown 103 touchdowns and 75 interceptions.
He will also be one positive Covid test from Love away from being the starter with a handful of practices under his belt.
Going to be a fun week.

This would be a good signing, providing a backup to Love.

I see Odell Beckham (spelling) is no longer on the Browns team. What that means I don't know.

OBJ is owed $13 million a year for 2022 and 2023, and is bad news. I'm glad the Packers did not trade for him, J J Watt, or Fuller.

I wonder if he's immunized?

As long as his Dad is it shouldn't matter!

Honestly though.... if we can get Bak, Adams, Lazard, MVS, Meyers back on the field, I will be quite interested to see how Love can do. Love looked OK in preseason, and he never played with any established starters.

Bak back and Rodgers out would be quite the turn of events!

I think it will be interesting Marp but feel like it is going to put a lot of pressure on Love who just turned 23 yesterday. By pressure I mean where Love may try forcing things vs just staying within the offense and checking down, or throwing ball away. I know he never appears rattled. It is more can he maintain ball management and not force risky passes while wanting to prove himself? I don't doubt his ability and know he will play a good game. Just hoping for ball control with no turnovers by Love.

I thought he did reasonably well in relief of Rodgers in Week 1, and the Saints have a stronger D than KC. He shouldn't feel too much pressure from KC.

Totally agree, but that is the challenge for every young QB who wants to make it in the NFL. Bring it on and let's see what the kid can do.

I would prefer it if Love or any first time starter could go out after a full week of practice. That’s not necessarily the way it happens of course, but it does make for better evaluation. I wonder if Love will target differently. He’s played more with Taylor, Rodgers and ESB than Cobb and Adams. Particularly ESB as a recent scout team member.

I saw today that Myers had knee surgery and is hopeful for the playoffs. Looks like Lucas will be the center for the rest of the year. So glad that the Packers drafted six offensive linemen the last two years, as injuries happen all the time.

With QB1 and QB3 out with Covid, I'm trying to understand how Love wouldn't be a victim of Covid contact. I hope there is not another shoe to drop in this scenario. What a strange year.

In total agreement! Game playing as he for sure has had contact.

I'm guessing Love received the vaccination so only a positive test would take him out of the Kansas City game. He wouldn't need to worry about being a close contact.

That makes sense. Thanks for that info.

My thought too, but then Yiadom also went down with it. So it doesn’t look like it’s restricted to the QB room. We could easily see a trickle of others into Covid reserve.

Packers can beat the chiefs with Love , everyone needs to relax , the Giants almost beat KC with many key players missing , no film on Love is a plus .

Exactly what I was thinking. On top of that this guy's been on the roster for a long time now, so no excuses. Especially no excuses because he's had the benefit of being behind Aaron and learning so much for so long. This will be an interesting thing to watch for with Love....Love it or not. I have a feeling, just like the rest of us, that he is going to (Russ) Ball out

Way back in 2007(?) one Aaron Rodgers came off the bench after Farve was injured in the game at Dallas. He almost led a comeback and upset. As I recall, that showing made management believe that the team could move on from Favre. Could this be Love's ARod moment that leads to a similar management decision? Can't wait to see.

Anyone got Jay Cutlers phone number he used to throw to the Green and Gold regularly, he is the Packers 4th best qb!

In many ways this game will be more of a must see game with Packer fans than if Rodgers played. Is the future here?
Wonder what truly will be going on in Rodgers mind during the game?

Ugh. OK. I guess there really aren't many options at this point, er, I mean, Blake Bortels! He was a starter somewhere a long time ago. He'll be awesome!

We'll have three first-round QBs on the roster on Sunday, more than any other team.
This has to mean something good, right? :)

Nice to be optimistic but the Chefs(Chris Berman's name) are going to come out at home with their hair on fire. This would have been a tough game to win even with Aaron Rodgers. I think the line with Kansas City at seven points is about right.
What Love can do is prove the arena is not too big for him. The main concern is making turnovers which are killers in a tight game. If he can manage the offense then the defense won't be so strapped trying to handle Patrick Mahomes. Losing Aaron Rodgers is big, but not having Jaire Alexander is also bad. The Chefs receivers are amazing.

I've wanted Love as GB's starter since game 1 of season 2021 along with several of Denver's high draft choices in the bank for future use. --- It didn't happen.
This will have to do for now. --- GB will still acquire those high draft picks from someone after this season is complete. Then all Packer Fans can say adios to another 'Diva QB'. --- I look forward to the change.

I wouldn't count on high draft choices after this - AR's is now a proven selfish liar, which isn't a good look to other teams' FOs. Someone will probably take a flier on him, but we'd maybe get a Day 2 pick and cap relief if we're lucky. Remember, we only got a 6th for Favre.
