Brett Favre has some advice for Matt LaFleur on handling "the best player in the NFL"
The Pro Football Hall of Famer also offered his opinion on Mike McCarthy's time in Green Bay.

In the aftermath of the Bleacher Report article that exposed some serious division between former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and current Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre has some advice for new head coach Matt LaFleur when it comes to dealing with his two-time MVP superstar quarterback.
"Any coach that will attempt to coach him has to tread lightly because you don't want to take away what he does so well -- which is a lot of good things -- and handcuff him."

Favre also spoke about McCarthy's time with Rodgers and how he was surprised their teams didn't win more.

Brett and Rodgers....us Packer fans have been very blessed! Nice to see the two of them get along.
I agree with Brett's comments that as you age and achieve success you have to exercise more caution and your behavior likely will suggest that.
I also agree...the Packers should have won more SB's with Rodgers than they have. Very discouraging and without TT at the helm I believe it would have happened.

It was a combination of TT and MM. TT only used the draft and MM did not hold his coaches accountable. We saw that when he kept Capers for 4 or 5 years too long.

Nice to see Favre mellowing out and praising Rodgers.
However, it'll depend on how Rodgers takes the comment about "surprised they didn't win more."
After Rodgers won a Super Bowl, Favre said, "I'm surprised they didn't win one sooner."
Either way, Favre is absolutely right about not keeping your star QB on a leash. Let him improvise sometimes like Favre did -- that's part of his greatness.

I agree, you learn a lot as you age.
I agree, Packer fans were more that blessed having Favre and then Rodgers. Man, we are so lucky we had personnel in place to make that happen. Don't forget it.
A short aside, Favre still doesn't say Green Bay right. :-). So funny.
I can't wait to see the documentary.
I think there should have been more SB's during both of their reigns. At least ARod still has a little more time.
Can't/couldn't keep either on a leash. But in Fare's last couple of years here, I wish he had shortened it a little. It is what it is.
I'm glad he was/is a Packer. I love watching his highlights of "JOY."

I thought it was self-serving, as in "don't do to him like was done to me". I think a lot of Favre's public pronouncements are self- serving, so I'm biased that way anyway.
During the Drama of 2007, when somebody asked him if he'd be willing to have an open competition with Rodgers for the starting job in Green Bay, he scoffed and said "Why?"
And now he's the best player in the game?

Several years ago Favre stated Rodgers will break all his records. Essentially, stating Rodgers was a better player.
Let 2007 and the Favre drama go....

I have to remember that OSchool always strikes back in defense of his age. --- Consider this: I'm your senior. I've seen Starr, Hornung, Taylor, Pitts, Max, Boyd, Unitas, Matte & many more all play on scruffy NFL fields. -- Can you say the same?

Come on. A big part of the Pack is that their history is old - oldest. 100 years old. And us fans, we generally embrace it. (even the crappy years) Think of the crap other teams have in their history vault. Some don't have half our history.
Embrace Pack history. There are none like us. Unique. Still are unique.

As Favre said, you learn a lot as you get older.
Wow, I don't think there is much similarity in what was done to each, except it was negative for the Packers.
Favre left do to attrition. He was offered a very cushy ($$) front office/PR job with the Pack he decided not to take. NP, his choice.
Rodgers was personally attacked for his brains.
Anyway, Packer fans were/are blessed to have these two guys.

Had Rodgers played well or great in that 2014 NFCCG in Seattle, there would have been at least one more Super Bowl. He was on fire in Green Bay vs Dallas the week before, but he always struggles mentally in Seattle. As bad as TT did from 2015-2017, the white ghost gave MM a championship caliber team in 2014.
MM, Bostick, Peppers stop sign, and Arods 3 horrible passes pissed it all away.

Redzone three time s and FGs come out of it. He was playing on One leg ( the calf tear). Hair-brained plays by his teamates sunk that ship.

For me, the stop sign was the biggest mistake in the game. But even on one leg, AR left a lot on the field that day as well. And most of it hasnt anything to do with the leg. O-line played lights out that day, by the way.
And I never will get why CM3 Standing on the sideline when it counts most. Guess that game will hunt me forever and some years…..

I like your comments, but I have to disagree with you here a little. Win or lose, the team/coaches go together.
In you 1st paragraph you call out Arod. In you 2nd you you call out the rest.
IMO, the coaches had to have these players and situations defined with their football expertise and player education. The mistakes they made to give away seasons, playoffs, SB's are mind bogging and really unacceptable. We could say only in Green Bay, but we have also seen ATL and the Rams do the
same.
But you are so right, the Pack found crazy, poorly coached, ways to snatch defeat from the real prospect of victory. So disappointing.

generally, that more true than anything. the rest is just details. At least thats what I think about it. Im just graceful. What a time to be a Packers Fan. The good old times are now and Im sure thats how they will call it 10 years down the road.

To the subject, it seems MLF is open to, and will listen to, anyone qualified to discuss football. That is what he has shone in his limited time, and especially what he has said.
