Clay Matthews Breaks Nose in Packers Charity Softball Game

Earlier today in the Packers Green & Gold Charity Softball Game at Fox Cities Stadium, Packers OLB Clay Matthews was hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of Lucas Patrick while pitching and was forced to leave the game.

Ian Rapoport first reported the peculiar injury and said Matthews was on his way to the ER after appearing to have a broken nose.

Matthews tweeted that he busted his nose up "pretty good" and will have surgery once the swelling subsides. "It was scary. You heard a little crack but I didn't know what it was. You never want to watch something like that unfold," said Davante Adams, who filled in for Clay after he left the stadium.

By all accounts it seems that Matthews is very fortunate to not have been further injured. We'll know more about his recovery timeline after surgery.

He wouldn't have played more than 5 games this year anyway. ;)

It’ll toughen him up. I’m sure he just rubbed a little dirt on it.

Maybe a little twist to that schnoz will cut down on his commercial filming and cameos in Pitch Perfect movies so he can focus more on football... ;)

Chuck Cecil used a razor blade. CMIII uses softballs.

I like Clay, but not sure he was ever called "a hard-nosed LB", lol. As someone who's had a 'deviated septum" surgery and re-injured my nose multiple times this is really no big deal IMHO.

“Deviated”...I resemble that remark.

Should be good to go in a month, just cartilage. Took a slapshot on the shnoze, had surgery, bout a month to heal. Softball is for Salley's.

Moral of the story, don't stick your nose into other sports business.

And the other moral of the story is that next year's charity softball game participants will be Lenzy Pipkins and a waterboy.

And Kyler Fackrell, if he's still on the team.

If Clay would have had the versatility of Don Barclay, he would have been able to get a paw in front of that.

Seeing all of these Vikings fans comments on twitter and rejoicing Mathews getting hurt, first is disturbing. Also it makes me take back feeling any sort sympathy I had for them when Bridgewater got hurt. Seeing them cheering when Rodgers breaking his collar bone and now doing the same thing for when Mathews takes a line drive off his face shows what pathetic fan base they are!

Let’s remember Vikings fans, karma can be a bitch. So watch out for what you wish for!

Probably should have worn a mask or had a pitching net set up, but either way batter cant be going middle in a charity softball game IMO. Hopefully a speedy recovery!

At least it wasn't his hamstring.

I feel for him. Pitching in baseball is dangerous. You don't have the reaction time of any other position. As a kid, I was hit in the mouth by a line drive while pitching, and moved to 3rd base there ever after.

Yes RC it is becoming scary the obsession of the Vikings fans with the Packers , they omit from their memory any success of the Packers and also have no recall for last years embarrassment in the championship game it is very disturbing .
