Just some stuff I saw today, not meant to be exhaustive in the slightest.

Media guidelines change

Roughly a half hour before practice started, media members had the following land in their inbox:

Moving forward, media is no longer permitted to mention who is getting reps with the first team, second team, third team etc., nor who is being used in certain packages or if players are rotating among positions. It is permissible to comment on play results/player performances, but you must avoid all projections on the depth chart and personnel packages. We realize this is more strict than what has been allowed in the past, but with the absence of fans at practice and no preseason games, it is important that we do not put ourselves at a competitive disadvantage. We would like to continue to allow live tweeting/coverage from practice, but need your cooperation with our guidelines to ensure it can continue. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Needless to say, this was quite the topic not only on Twitter as practice unfolded but within the stands among members of the media. One the one hand, I get Brian Gutekunst and Matt LaFleur trying to restrict as much information as possible in an environment where the only information other teams have on their program is what they are able to get from media reports. On the other hand, its a bit rich that the franchise that LOVES to play up their "We're the only publicly owned professional sports franchise!" as much as possible suddenly wants to restrict the information a ravenous public is looking for. Especially when you have teams like the Seahawks who are literally producing live streams of practice. 

Injuries

Davante Adams went down after a deep shot from Rodgers into double coverage got picked off. Adams lay on the ground for a few minutes before getting up and limping to the sideline then into the Hutson Center, prior to returning and observing the rest of the initial team work. The second part of practice was conducted without pads and proceeded at a walkthrough pace (something LaFleur indicated to us was going to happen, so it was not in reaction to Davante's injury)  After jogging the width of the field a few times, Davante joined in for the rest of practice. 

At one point while jogging, Davante saw me and gave a thumbs up, to which I responded, jokingly. "That's quite enough of that."

Davante replied "We good, don't worry, don't worry." 

In other injury news, Za'Darius joined late to observe walkthrough but did not participate. Corey Linsley was back and David Bakhtiari rotated duties with Alex Light, most likely as a precautionary measure. Montravious Adams was out with a sprained toe. 

Josh Jackson Stacking Successes

Third year corner Josh Jackson picked up where he left off yesterday, with sticky coverage in both man and zone against receivers up and down the depth chart. It's still crazy early, but if Jackson can maintain this level of play, coupled with Chandon Sullivan's continued development, this team might really have one of the more exciting, younger cornerback groups in the league. 

John Lovett Cuts His Hair

Ok, so that's the headline, but the story is that Lovett is a really intriguing player. He has soft hands, natural route running ability and really accelerates in space without having to gather. I can't wait to see him really lay into someone trying to tackle him.

The Backs and Tight Ends Are the Wide Receivers You're Looking For

A few days into practice, it is very clear that LaFleur wants to expand the versatility and malleability of any player who is eligible to receive the football from the quarterback. Backs downfield, tight ends in motion into and out of the backfield, wide receivers lining up in the slot then motioning into the backfield, the last three days have seen every possible use of any and all skill positions. 

At one point during practice, Aaron Jones got open deep up the left sideline but Rodgers just missed him on a bit of an overthrow. Later on, Matt LaFleur was talking to Christian Kirksey about the play and what he saw from a defensive perspective. It's the kind of rep where, even though it's not a completion, coaches and players can get valuable information out of it. That's what NFL folks mean when they talk about the value of each and every rep. 

However, if you simply must have a wide receiver...

Malik Turner hasn't had many opportunities, but he looked really good in drill work today and the little team stuff I got to see him do. He snagged a couple errant throws and displayed some of the run-after-the-catch ability that his numbers suggest is his strong suit. 

Solid day for Sternberger

After a day that featured a brutal drop, Jace Sternberger had a nice bounce back session, catching everything I saw thrown to him. He has the potential to be a real weapon down the seam, a spot where Rodgers found him a few times during team work.
