Look at his role and the catches he caught. This guy adds physicality and can play. He has scored well in contested catches in the past and YAC. Be interesting to see him with a QB other than Newton (he only started one game before injury in Indy). This could be a really nice addition. In the absence of a move TE signing we got a player who does a lot of what one would have.

I can see him as a blocking WR used on plays to spring Aaron Jones free. I can see Funchess used in the red zone, a lot. He's here to compete for a WR roster spot, and by compete, I mean, to elevate GMO's, MVS's or ESB's game.

He was hired to replace GMO. Where he lands on the depth chart, nobody knows. He has a history of drops and plays post-up in a game that dictates fast footwork, explosion to the spot and RAC. Don't see those traits in him. Better hit on the #30 or #62 on the slot WR.

So far we got a linebacker made of glass, a tackle that couldn’t protect Matthew Stafford and a slow receiver that can’t catch, way to go Gutey , killing it this year.

I find it hilarious that nagler spent all season defending Allison and kumerow, but funchness gets a meh. Lol

"they just need to play" - Aaron Nagler

What's underwhelming is that GB went into the 2019 season with Geronimo Alison at the #2 WR and that there was so called "experts" that actually thought that Kumerow, MVS and eventually Lazard (along with GBs crap TEs) were a viable receiving corps.

At least they are doing something in the off-season to address the GB situation catching the ball in 2020 and not taking some BS platitude "they just need to play" approach.

The Packers threw 573 passes in 16 games, about 37 times a game, which ranked us at #16 in a 32 team league. We were also #16 in completions and #15 in passing TDS . Average, at the worst, but certainly viable.

Adams was our #1 target in the passing game. We targeted him a little bit over 10 times each game. Our RBs were targeted were targeted 123 times , or about 7.5 per game. So that’s half of our passing attack already.

The TE group was targeted 94 times, with 60 going to Graham. That’s about six throws per game to that position. On the other 60 snaps they were blockers or decoys.

The WRs not named Adams combined for.184 targets, 107 receptions, 1535 yards and 9 TDS. That’s about 12 targets per game. On the other 50+ plays they are blockers or decoys.

So that’s the distribution and production of our passing game. It was “viable” enough for us to be 6-0 in our division, viable enough for us to make it to the championship game. As a bonus, it worked pretty well in the red zone. And it’s cheap, with most of them on rookie deals.

I don’t think Green Bay has a “situation “; I think it’s part of a well-thought out plan to get to the Super Bowl.

Should have saved the money for Clark and Bahk extensions. I hope none of it is guaranteed.

I agree. The team already has a room full of Devin Funchess'. Same size, speed, hands etc. I don't get this signing at all. This guy is a below average WR and no better than ESB, MVS, Lazard.

Really? How many of those players had 60+ catches for 800+ yards and received a 10+M up to 13M with incentive contract. That was with a below average completion rate QB. Do you really think Indy would've given that contract if he was below average? If his contract is low in cost and guarantee it is a high value signing and one that can be at a minimum a very good stop gap till our draft picks that I assume we will sign get up to speed.

Meanwhile the Vikings with less cap space than the Packers keep making signings while the Packers shop in the bargin basement.

Sharpe? A slender non classic build slot type with a poor vertical and moderate speed for the role? He has good hands but gets manhandled by corners frequently, limiting the ability to get him the ball and not close to the production of Funchess. I’m not sure I’d consider that a miss from our perspective. In fact he may be less interesting than Bagelton, whom we signed as a standout from the CFL.

In any case, if offered the two for the same price, I’d take Funchess on the basis of production alone.

With everything on lockdown, I’m assuming no physicals in the near future and therefore no formal signings and thus contract details for a while.

Based on production, he is an upgrade over either Allison or Kumerow.

And how many players did they have to get rid of to get below the cap? You're not much of a "big picture" guy, are you?

Speilman is a genius. He just got four picks from buffalo for Diggs. and he will get a lot of decent supplementals from the guys he is letting go who have value. He will rebuild this team into a contender in two years or less.

Does his signing count in the compensatory formula for free agents? If it does than I am really against this signing.

I wonder who Gutt selected with his first pick? Any of you guys know. I know last year he said and I quote " Gary was my guy before the combine" so I assume he knows exactly who he is picking and in my estimation WE will be underwhelmed.
Oh PS, another coo for Spielman, he got 4 very good picks for Diggs. A 1 two threes and I think a 4. Not to mention he is letting go some guys with gas left in the tank so he will have a hoard of supplementals to add to his list as well thus he can keep a team in tact with core players and rebuild in one season, two at the mosts.

Spielman got the Bills first round pick, their fifth and sixth rounders, and a 2021 fourth rounder. He took a $9M dead money hit on Diggs. The cap is an area of trouble for Spielman. The extension for Cousins is dubious. 2021 doesn't look too bad cap-wise for MN, at least. Just Dalvin Cook and Anthony Harris if his franchise tag isn't replaced with a long term deal this season.

That's a pretty good trade. MN will have picks 22 and 25, with 5 picks in the top 105, and 12 picks overall in the 2020 draft. That's enough to think MN will be competing in 2020. I think the trouble is that Zimmer would be a great DC, but instead he is the HC. With the departures of Griffen, Joseph, Waynes, and Alexander, MN should probably keep Zimmer around.
