Nagler has been critical of Rodgers but didn’t Brady ask for a Brown and Gronk , didn’t Mahones complain about his O line ? same for Russel Wilson , and Desean Watson wants say in front office decision making so why can’t the longest tenured Packer have some input?

Yes and I believe this is totally on Murphy - I have said this before - that the GM does what the big guy allows him to do. Now maybe AR has not always been totally on board. His body language the last few years of MM and his first year of Lafleur kind of showed that. But if one doesnt ask your most important player - who he thinks are all the best guys to throw the ball too. If you dont ask your most important player what he thinks letting some players go would do to the clubhouse, then you are NOT doing your job. This doesnt mean that you take the advice as gospel - but not to ask and then sandbag. And if AR was asked and the player didnt live up to that recommendation - that is on who AR. There may be blame to go around but I still think that this starts and stops at the top.

well, there isnt an owner, and there never will be.

Deal with it.

If you want an owner meddling in affairs get yourself a star and root for the boys.

The Packers and the Packer way are here to stay.

Lombardi took advantage of the structure to exhibit leadership and drove Championships. Wolf did the same to a limited extent.

In one other instance, Belichick has done this for the most part in NE and look at the success (with asterisks for being an ethically bankrupt cheater).

Parcells was an authoritarian and leader in the Packer way mold and at one time Wolf was after him hot and heavy.

Learn some history and dont cherry pick a singular instance where a different model might have given some benefit and realize that the past 25 years of success happened for a reason.

Pittsburgh, NE and GB have all excelled over the past quarter century. There are some common threads therre, take a look and you can see them.

Players play, coaches coach and GM's GM! Rodgers can voice his preference if he chooses, but he should NOT have any voice in the decision!

The Cobb acquisition is plain WRONG! Cobb is over the hill and a shadow of former self. It also proves Rodgers doesn't know that the Packer really need. That being a DL that is worth a damn to help the D! If Rodgers wanted to win above all else then work his magic and get a DL. A washed up old WR friend of his doesn't help the team in the least!!!

AARON RODGERS - HELLO & GOOD-BYE

At last the man has spoken. Aaron Rodgers, NFL MVP, top-ranked QB in all the major passing categories last season, has confirmed his monumental level of frustration with the Green Bay Packers. His remarks at yesterday's press conference could be framed more as a eulogy to his time with the Pack than as a celebration of his return for one "last dance" in Titletown. He does not want to be a lame duck quarterback and he is absolutely right to be frustrated with the way he is being treated by the team. Not that teams necessarily "owe" anything to players other than the millions they are being paid to play the game, but Rodgers did suggest with considerable justification that a 16-year veteran and one of the top players in the game does deserve to have some "input" when it comes to free agents and player personnel.

Aaron Rodgers is NOT happy to be back in Green Bay no matter that he spoke of how much "fun" it felt to be on the practice field. His facial expression, his body language, his tone - we don't need a CIA interrogation expert to discern that AR12 would rather be somewhere else.

Rodgers hardly reacted to the question "do you want to be here?" with a broad smile and burst of enthusiasm. His return to Green Bay is that of a man hoping to enjoy his final season with the team with which he would have preferred to play out his career. But Brian Gutekunst has decided that Jordan Love is the future of the team and that it makes more "sense" to install an unproven QB at the helm of the team in 2022 rather than stick with this year's MVP and a player who likely has two or three years of high performance left in the tank if Tom Brady and Drew Brees are comparable examples.

Rodgers declared that Gutekunst had made it clear that he "was not part of the future" and that was why he asked to be traded. He then indicated that the team, after realising how displeased he was with the way negotiations had proceeded, began to "throw money at him." But by then it was too late and Rodgers felt disrespected and disillusioned with the front office.

That is why Rodgers' play this season will be seen as a premature swan song engineered by Gutekunst's premature termination of arguably the best pure passer ever to have played the game.

This is also very different from the complicated transition from Favre to Rodgers which was triggered more by the former's indecision regarding his retirement and then his decision to quit and unquit football.

What we have here is a failure to communicate on the part of the Packers' FO. The premature jettisoning of Rodgers is the fault of Gutekunst and no one else. The decision to cut key players in ruthless fashion over the last decade may be a continuation of the Wolfe legacy but that does not mean that a successful tradition of roster building could not be improved by perhaps reconsidering or modifying such a cutthroat approach. Julius Peppers and Mica Hyde are merely two of many examples that Rodgers cited who were forced out prematurely and also treated as commodities. This may be a business, but the Packers are also supposed to be a family given

But although Rodgers has politely declined to single out the selection of Jordan Love as his replacement as the primary trigger for his wish to leave Green Bay, everything he says about the Packers making plans to hand the reins of the offense to his chosen successor suggest otherwise. The selection of Jordan Love was a tragic error on the part of Brian Gutekunst. Instead of choosing a potential impact player who would likely be part of the starting lineup, Gutekunst panicked and saw himself as the visionary savior of the franchise by arbitrarily deciding that Rodgers' skills were declining to such an extent that it was time to choose the Next One. This is the fault of Gutekunst and no one else.

Aaron Rodgers has already told us that his MVP performance "threw a wrench into" Gutekunst's grand design for the future. And it is likely that the GM will go down in infamy as the man who felt it was a wise move to terminate the GOAT (or No.2 GOAT) when AR12 had several prime years left in the tank. Of course, history is written by the victors and we will have to wait how Rodgers plays for his next team in 2022, assuming that the status quo holds, to see whether he can indeed play to a very high level up to age 40 and perhaps beyond.

There is little doubt from Rodger's comments and demeanor that the man is not at all satisfied with the nature of his return to the team. He explained that there have been no guarantees given him regarding how his input into player decisions will be value nor has he even been given assurances regarding his status beyond 2021.

This is not an ideal state of affairs for a team expected to contend for a Super Bowl. Rodgers does not give the impression of a player entering this season with the kind of hopes and ambitions and pride that a star player should have under optimal conditions. Our golden armed football God has been told that it is time for him to leave Mount Olympus (Titletown) and make room for his successor on the basis of false and generally unfounded assumptions that the Packers would have a better chance of winning with Love running the offense beginning in 2022.

Aaron Nagler stated last night on ExtraCheese that the Packers have decided to move on from Rodgers and by implication Packers' fans should simply accept this as a fait accompli rather than rage against this wrongheaded, boneheaded, arrogant failure of management.

I would make the case that the future is now and that Rodgers is still the man of the moment and should have beeb given two or three more years to bring another Super Bowl to Green Bay.

There is a sense of tragic finality to Rodgers' last stand. To paraphrase T.S. Elliot, he has yet to see the moment of his greatness flicker and his pending departure has cast a pall over this upcoming season of his discontent.

GO PACK GO!

There is not a shadow of a doubt that Gute loved Rodgers excellent play in 2020. The wrench in the plan is that Rodgers mvp play made Rodgers feel entitled to use his play as leverage. If Rodgers wanted more commitment in years or more say in personnel then he should have gotten that put into his contract.

I appreciate what Rodgers has done for the org but I did not appreciate his huge ego on display during todays press conference.

Hi Nate!

Thank you for your kind words. And yes it does seem there is a hard core, hard-headed, wrongheaded, leather-headed Packers' right wing extremist caucus that will always side with authoritarian management and against the player. (And based on my anecdotal experience with some of the people who post comments, they are all anti-vaxxers who supported the Jan. 6th insurrection, endorse voting rights restrictions that are intended to make it more difficult for minorities to vote, and likely believe that Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson is a towering intellect rather than the feeble-minded fool that he is!)

But the bottom line is that Rodgers demonstrated his class and spoke eloquently about his perception of Packers' FO and its failure of leadership. Of course, most of the people who use this space do so to exercise their demons and push their party line which hates Rodgers and anyone who dares to challenge the so-called "G." It will be interesting to see what the trolls say next season when Rodgers is gone and the Packers go 5 and 12!

In the meantime, I'm all in with the Pack this year and very comfortable in defending AR12, one of the all-time greats.

Why would someone offering support for the FO be considered "the far right" or "far left," because you dont admire the position that they take? One player is never bigger than the team. Love the player, dislike the man. That can happen at the same time. This gotta be on one side of the line drawn in the sand is the best example of what it is like to be an American today. KITFO

he signed his contract. i'd guess he read it, and calculated the years. he certainly has been cashing the checks. i never heard him say he was willing to take a pay cut to have imput. brady regularly took less money than quarterbacks who couldn't carry his jock so he could have better players around him.

that is leadership. everything else is lip service. this is and always was about money and leverage. this was his last hurrah. he's in camp because he backed down. the club was kind enough to help him save face. i loved that Tom Silversteen called him out on his personnel choices. also, i didn't see touchdown jesus tear the league up in buffalo.

Once again, Murphy and the FO demonstrated their commitment to the Packers as a business enterprise rather than as a team. And with fanatical Packer fans willing to buy tickets to support whatever team the FO deems the best fit for its business model, all they’ll get is “good enough”. As a side note, the Packers would have been better off trading Rodgers for whatever they could get. That they didn’t is a reflection of Gutekunst’s and MLF’s realization that they’ll be left with a mediocre team without Rodgers’ golden arm and football intelligence.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Brett Farve Farve ask Packer Mgt to trade for Randy Moss when he was QB... Was Packer MGT listening...? I thought AR was up front and honest. I am a die Packer fan since the late 60's - AKA NFL OWNER. I agree with everything Aaron had to say today. And personally I'm glad he did, because it was long overdue. Packer MGT whom I'm really not happy with has made some bone headed moves IMO. Every player Aaron mention should have been treated with much more respect. Why didn't Packer MGT sign Brett Farve to a one day contact so he could officially retire a Packer...? Was that to hard to do...? Many NFL teams have done that for their retired veteran players. I absolutely respect Aaron Rodgers as a person and professional football player, thank you Aaron for clearing the stagnant air in Packer MGT land. GO PACK GO...!!!!!!!!

Thank you NJ-Rick. For the time being, it appears as if the usual trolls (Leatherhead and his ilk) have gone into hiding. Rodgers is back and ready to rock and roll to another championship season. Let's hope this year he leads the Packers to a Super Bowl victory and then can then ride off into the California sunset (or the mountains of Colorado) and lead another team to victory whose management sees that he can play at apex predator level for several more years.

Buffoon.

If you love AR more than the franchise, I cant wait for AR to leave, so you and your ilk can go with him.

The GBP will still be here, doing what they have always done. WIN. The score does not always favor us when the clock gets to 00, but we can be proud of how we do it.

A new crew will be doing it, but make no mistake about it, winning is our culture. AR's ego and delusional behaviors will never change that.

Dear Clueless Troll,

It constantly amazes me how many uneducated, uncultured losers like you find a measure of comfort in insulting fellow Packers' fans. It is not AR12 who suffers from delusions, it is people like you who write from your parents' basement and have nothing better to do with their lives than rant and rave and make crude ad hominem arguments. Obviously your life is so empty that you find it distressing and threatening when intelligent individuals like Rodgers speak out and refuse to submit blindly to management diktats. Your weak ego is the real problem.

I mean, you do realize alot of those moves were made prior to Gute becoming GM. Murphy didnt have his nose in the football side of those as well. Not making excuses, but point the finger in the correct direction. Food for thought: the current FO has made such a mess of this team that 13-4 in back to back season is just awful. Ask any team in the North how they would handle that kind of FO!

Still doesnt excuse the current situation or lack of communication with the current FO, but you are angry at the past FO.

If you've been a Packers fan since the 60s you certainly remember the strained relationship that Brett had with the Packers that lasted well after he retired. It's no surprise Farve didn't sign a one day contact so he could officially retire a Packer. Maybe it was offered and he refused. We may never know. Even Brett said he was nervous about returning to Green Bay because he didn't know how he would be received. It was great to see him return to Lambeau and get the ovation that he did, but it took years to mend those fences.

I can't really disagree with what Rodgers said and he was surely transparent. He wants more input, that's understandable but this is not a dysfunctional mess coming off a couple of 8 and 8 seasons. In fact a lot of people behind the scenes have done an exceptional job of placing a superb product on the field and keeping loyal fans happy. While Aaron may find fault this is one of the NFL's 5 star organizations. It's not all Aaron.

The problem I have is Rodgers is ultimately paid to direct the team on the field and win with the talent assembled. In the final analysis last years NFC championship game wasn't Gute or Murphy or LeFleur, or Love or the scouting staff or disgruntled former players. It boiled down to Rodgers vs. Brady in the fourth quarter and the Packers needed a TD. That was Aaron's primary responsibility and he couldn't get it done...at Lambeau. He's amazing I'm glad he's back but he's thrown a lot of rocks at others and damaged reputations in the process. If he'd won his final game and ultimately won a Super Bowl would we have seen yesterdays performance?

This isnt a neighborhood pick up league where everyone comes together to have some fun.

Just stop and think about what the context is for the NFL to exist, where it came from, overcoming the popularity of college football, baseball and boxing in the public eye to become what it is today.

Buddy-buddy approaches to management? That spells LOSER every time in a BUSINESS, even an entertainment business, especially where the entertainment had better win on the field in a competition or management loses their jobs and players get cut or reduced pay. Nobody associated with the NFL is doing their jobs for free, everyone is there to earn a living,, no gifts are given for participation.

Now, within that context carefully consider the actions of GBP management over the past 60 years from Lombardi to the present. Think about what succeeded and brought money, fame and fortune to the franchise AND the players that put on the packer uniform.
Lombardi - GM and Coach - Success
Bengston - Coach - not so much
Devine - GM and Coach - not in any measure
Starr - GM and Coach - middling results
Gregg - GM and Coach - middling at best
Harlan - Ex President - Best Packer executive ever
Braatz - Dir Football Ops - Failure
Wolf - GM - Success
Sherman - GM and Coach - Coach-OK, GM not so much
Thompson - GM - Success - back to the Harlan/Wolf tree
Gutekunst - GM - Success - back to the Harlan/Wolf tree

Person Teams From To Titles Notes
Curly Lambeau Packers 1936 1949 Head Coach/General Manager
Gene Ronzani Packers 1950 1953 Head Coach/General Manager
Verne Lewellen Packers 1954 1958 General Manager
Vince Lombardi Packers 1959 1968 General Manager, Head Coach/General Manager
Phil Bengtson Packers 1969 1970 Head Coach/General Manager
Dan Devine Packers 1971 1974 Head Coach/General Manager
Bart Starr Packers 1975 1980 Head Coach/General Manager
Dick Corrick Packers 1981 1986 Director of Player Personnel
Bob Harlan Packers 1981 1986 Corporate General Manager
Tom Miller Packers 1981 1983 Business General Manager
Forrest Gregg Packers 1984 1986 Head Coach/de facto General Manager
Chuck Hutchison Packers 1985 1986 Director of Player Procurement
Tom Braatz Packers 1987 1991 Executive VP/Director of Football Operations
Ron Wolf Packers 1992 2000 General Manager
Mike Sherman Packers 2001 2004 Head Coach/General Manager
Ted Thompson Packers 2005 2017 Executive VP/General Manager/Director of Football Operations
Brian Gutekunst Packers 2018 2020 General Manager

Sure there have been ups and downs, but the overall trend is positive. The culture at 1265 is strong and has good continuity with a successful past and a positive future.

Sure some mistakes have been made, but by both players and management, nothing run by humans is perfect. The feeling that the GBP need to blow up their way of doing business is clearly misguided. Perhaps a nice pat on the back as a player leaves could be incorporated, but changing how player performance evaluation and roster building is done? No way.

How many TEAMS have their own Hall of Fame? The GBP do. They regularly honor their successful players with induction and recognition. The GBP regularly bring back players from the past to attend games and mingle with the fans. How many other teams do this?

How many Players honor the GBP for the exceptional living they had the opportunity to earn while in their employ? Not so many. I will not open the can of worms containing the NFLPA and Union contracts as well as long term injury issues. I acknowledge that those issues are very complex and deserve discussion within the context of what I have presented, but not right now.
