Nagler has been critical of Rodgers but didn’t Brady ask for a Brown and Gronk , didn’t Mahones complain about his O line ? same for Russel Wilson , and Desean Watson wants say in front office decision making so why can’t the longest tenured Packer have some input?

Its fine that Rodgers wants input. The big question, will he be ok and not throw a tiff if his recommendations are not used?

AARON RODGERS - HELLO & GOOD-BYE

At last the man has spoken. Aaron Rodgers, NFL MVP, top-ranked QB in all the major passing categories last season, has confirmed his monumental level of frustration with the Green Bay Packers. His remarks at yesterday's press conference could be framed more as a eulogy to his time with the Pack than as a celebration of his return for one "last dance" in Titletown. He does not want to be a lame duck quarterback and he is absolutely right to be frustrated with the way he is being treated by the team. Not that teams necessarily "owe" anything to players other than the millions they are being paid to play the game, but Rodgers did suggest with considerable justification that a 16-year veteran and one of the top players in the game does deserve to have some "input" when it comes to free agents and player personnel.

Aaron Rodgers is NOT happy to be back in Green Bay no matter that he spoke of how much "fun" it felt to be on the practice field. His facial expression, his body language, his tone - we don't need a CIA interrogation expert to discern that AR12 would rather be somewhere else.

Rodgers hardly reacted to the question "do you want to be here?" with a broad smile and burst of enthusiasm. His return to Green Bay is that of a man hoping to enjoy his final season with the team with which he would have preferred to play out his career. But Brian Gutekunst has decided that Jordan Love is the future of the team and that it makes more "sense" to install an unproven QB at the helm of the team in 2022 rather than stick with this year's MVP and a player who likely has two or three years of high performance left in the tank if Tom Brady and Drew Brees are comparable examples.

Rodgers declared that Gutekunst had made it clear that he "was not part of the future" and that was why he asked to be traded. He then indicated that the team, after realising how displeased he was with the way negotiations had proceeded, began to "throw money at him." But by then it was too late and Rodgers felt disrespected and disillusioned with the front office.

That is why Rodgers' play this season will be seen as a premature swan song engineered by Gutekunst's premature termination of arguably the best pure passer ever to have played the game.

This is also very different from the complicated transition from Favre to Rodgers which was triggered more by the former's indecision regarding his retirement and then his decision to quit and unquit football.

What we have here is a failure to communicate on the part of the Packers' FO. The premature jettisoning of Rodgers is the fault of Gutekunst and no one else. The decision to cut key players in ruthless fashion over the last decade may be a continuation of the Wolfe legacy but that does not mean that a successful tradition of roster building could not be improved by perhaps reconsidering or modifying such a cutthroat approach. Julius Peppers and Mica Hyde are merely two of many examples that Rodgers cited who were forced out prematurely and also treated as commodities. This may be a business, but the Packers are also supposed to be a family given

But although Rodgers has politely declined to single out the selection of Jordan Love as his replacement as the primary trigger for his wish to leave Green Bay, everything he says about the Packers making plans to hand the reins of the offense to his chosen successor suggest otherwise. The selection of Jordan Love was a tragic error on the part of Brian Gutekunst. Instead of choosing a potential impact player who would likely be part of the starting lineup, Gutekunst panicked and saw himself as the visionary savior of the franchise by arbitrarily deciding that Rodgers' skills were declining to such an extent that it was time to choose the Next One. This is the fault of Gutekunst and no one else.

Aaron Rodgers has already told us that his MVP performance "threw a wrench into" Gutekunst's grand design for the future. And it is likely that the GM will go down in infamy as the man who felt it was a wise move to terminate the GOAT (or No.2 GOAT) when AR12 had several prime years left in the tank. Of course, history is written by the victors and we will have to wait how Rodgers plays for his next team in 2022, assuming that the status quo holds, to see whether he can indeed play to a very high level up to age 40 and perhaps beyond.

There is little doubt from Rodger's comments and demeanor that the man is not at all satisfied with the nature of his return to the team. He explained that there have been no guarantees given him regarding how his input into player decisions will be value nor has he even been given assurances regarding his status beyond 2021.

This is not an ideal state of affairs for a team expected to contend for a Super Bowl. Rodgers does not give the impression of a player entering this season with the kind of hopes and ambitions and pride that a star player should have under optimal conditions. Our golden armed football God has been told that it is time for him to leave Mount Olympus (Titletown) and make room for his successor on the basis of false and generally unfounded assumptions that the Packers would have a better chance of winning with Love running the offense beginning in 2022.

Aaron Nagler stated last night on ExtraCheese that the Packers have decided to move on from Rodgers and by implication Packers' fans should simply accept this as a fait accompli rather than rage against this wrongheaded, boneheaded, arrogant failure of management.

I would make the case that the future is now and that Rodgers is still the man of the moment and should have beeb given two or three more years to bring another Super Bowl to Green Bay.

There is a sense of tragic finality to Rodgers' last stand. To paraphrase T.S. Elliot, he has yet to see the moment of his greatness flicker and his pending departure has cast a pall over this upcoming season of his discontent.

I happen to think that the Green Bay area has beautiful beaches and more positives to offer an NFL player than most of the so called big market teams areas do. nuff said!!!!!!!!!!

What is with Florio and his absolute hatred of AR. Did AR not do an interview with him? I mean his last 3 or 4 articles are just full of venom - Florio is a dufus IMO. And if you say anything even contrary to him on his site - he never posts it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Brett Farve Farve ask Packer Mgt to trade for Randy Moss when he was QB... Was Packer MGT listening...? I thought AR was up front and honest. I am a die Packer fan since the late 60's - AKA NFL OWNER. I agree with everything Aaron had to say today. And personally I'm glad he did, because it was long overdue. Packer MGT whom I'm really not happy with has made some bone headed moves IMO. Every player Aaron mention should have been treated with much more respect. Why didn't Packer MGT sign Brett Farve to a one day contact so he could officially retire a Packer...? Was that to hard to do...? Many NFL teams have done that for their retired veteran players. I absolutely respect Aaron Rodgers as a person and professional football player, thank you Aaron for clearing the stagnant air in Packer MGT land. GO PACK GO...!!!!!!!!

I can't really disagree with what Rodgers said and he was surely transparent. He wants more input, that's understandable but this is not a dysfunctional mess coming off a couple of 8 and 8 seasons. In fact a lot of people behind the scenes have done an exceptional job of placing a superb product on the field and keeping loyal fans happy. While Aaron may find fault this is one of the NFL's 5 star organizations. It's not all Aaron.

The problem I have is Rodgers is ultimately paid to direct the team on the field and win with the talent assembled. In the final analysis last years NFC championship game wasn't Gute or Murphy or LeFleur, or Love or the scouting staff or disgruntled former players. It boiled down to Rodgers vs. Brady in the fourth quarter and the Packers needed a TD. That was Aaron's primary responsibility and he couldn't get it done...at Lambeau. He's amazing I'm glad he's back but he's thrown a lot of rocks at others and damaged reputations in the process. If he'd won his final game and ultimately won a Super Bowl would we have seen yesterdays performance?

Rodgers is right about the Packers disrepecting some veterans and he should have been involved in the search for a new head coach .
