I appreciated the Packers organizing this call. It wasn't people shouting over others.

After reading what Rodgers said on espn I don’t blame him for not trying to carry the team , Rodgers has 1 TD pass to a first round pick , Favre had 125 , Brady 110, it’s obvious the Packers don’t plan on surrounding him with any talent for the duration of his career.

First round picks are not the end-all, be-all.
——
AARON RODGERS has thrown a higher percentage of TD passes to players drafted by his team in rounds 1-3 combined than:
Dres Brees
Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Ben Roethlisberger
Russell Wilson
Matt Ryan
Eli Manning
Philip Rivers
Matthew Stafford
82% to 2nd and 3rd. Next is 38%.

so you got lucky with your BS because Jordy was second round. Over all the years AR had a way better WR group then Favre and Brady combined. Even the last two years he had a good to great group, if he just can trust and hit them.
Brady had Moss for a couple of years and Gronk, other than that he throw his undersized slot guys famous. He never had half of AR groups. Who had Favre (thats why he lobbied so hard for Moss)?? Freeman, Brooks, Chmura? And of course Bill Schroeder?
Maybe you should really start to watch some games and read a little bit about the SC......

the last two years;,....a good to great group...hahaha....glad your not a scout for the team....mediocre at best rated by more experienced "experts" than you...

yeah, you got it as you put the "experts" in sticks. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa.
But at least you know you have no idea and cant see if you watch a game. If you have watched a game in the last couple of years?
Glad your not the waterboy for team……..

All Rodgers ever had to do was move the chains. It does not take top end talent to do that. If he was coached correctly or just watched Brady he would know it is the simple things done repeatedly that wins games and Championships. All that being said could the pack use a #2 receiver, Yes or A jones more as a receiver.

I think the 2nd rounders Nelson, Adams, Cobb, 3rd Jennings and Jones have been quite good for Rodgers...

Jennings was a 2nd rounder too.

They have bure, I agree, but why not restock the talent so it’s easier on our qb for his later years ?? We all want Rodgers to play better, and I think even if a rookie wr drafted early doesn’t produce year one, they could down the line.. A run game can help him, but so would better pass catchers.. I really hope next year we draft a WR early, but I won’t be surprised if they don’t..

Let's face it the Love pick puts pressure on Rodgers. But Love probably has more pressure on him over the next couple of years. He (Love) will be expected to be the next coming of Rodgers which is totally unrealistic.
Another Question I have, what happens if Rodgers really lights it over the next 2 years and the Packers win s SB or 2? Do you dump Rodgers? I seriously doubt that that direction. If Love plays well during that period, do you take a huge risk and dump him?
I think we're in for some interesting times
CHTV should put up a contest (prizes) tbd)) on which scenario happens. All the "great" prognosticators on this site can than put there "money( not really) where their mouth is". Just a thought. I think it would be fun. Give 4 choices or more and let the bitching begin!

Hey, I already promised to give up ice cream if I am wrong about Deguara! Trust me, I'd rather lose a few bucks than give up ice cream. I don't drink beer so what you see in my avatar is due to ice cream. Sadly, I am getting so old that I have few vices left to give up.
Odds are Love never becomes more than a journeyman backup. That's not really an attempt to foretell the future based on some in-depth study of Jordan Love, that's just me playing the odds. Put me down for AR playing out his contract in GB.
Well, gotta head out to the local honky-tonk or that dive bar to see what I can stir up.

The overwhelming majority of professionals who evaluate college talent think Love is going to be a good NFL starter. Gutekunst is betting his job on it. He’s in a good organization, with good players around him, and an opportunity to learn behind Rodgers.
Calculating odds is fun, but when I start looking at the whole picture it seems to me that Love has a better than average situation, and a better than average chance at success.

Odds are odds. Probabilities are probabilities. Professionals probably thought that all the QBs taken over the last 20 years in the first round had a better chance than the historical odds suggested. That's called hubris. Some GMs seemed to have an eye for a QB - Ron Wolf drafted a number of QBs who were better than their draft position might suggest they'd turn out.
I will say that Love doesn't have any physical limitations. Good size, weight, good arm, good athleticism for a QB. He is a good prospect. But if I am gambling, I'll play the odds, thanks.

I think that there are an awful lot of variables that go into those odds. From my calculations, he has a better opportunity for success than a lot of first round QBs.

"Hey, I already promised to give up ice cream if I am wrong about Deguara!"
Sorry TGR but I missed what you had to say about Deguara. What are your thoughts on him. I think he'll be loved like John Kuhn in the very near future but a whole lot more dynamic. I think we got a football player who will produce.

I've been butting heads with ColdWorld over Deguara here but mostly on APC! I don't hate Deguara as a player. I think an H-back plays 35% to 60% of possible snaps - if they are excellent (near the pinnacle) at their role. [Those are the snaps that Jusczcyk has played over his career.] That's not worth a 3rd round pick.
I think it is the exultation of scheme over talent. Deguara is a pure fit need - LaFleur seems to think he needs an H-Back to make his offense work. There really is no evidence that I can find which suggests LaFleur can make his offense work like Shanahan has been able to do. Shanahan's successor in Atlanta, despite having the same skill position players who were all healthy in both 2016 and 2017, failed miserably. Atlanta scored 11 points per game more with Shanahan running the Atlanta offense in 2016 as OC than Shanahan's successor was able to coax out of the offense in 2017.
GB took Deguara with pick #94. LT Lucas Niang was selected 96th. A left tackle plays 100% of snaps and has a far higher positional value. LTs get paid a shit ton more. GB should have selected Niang. He has more talent, will play more snaps, and will earn far more than Deguara over the course of their respective careers.
My bet isn't that Deguara will fail. My bet is that Niang will play more snaps, earn more money, and be a better player than Deguara will.

Got it...Thanks for the clarification TGR. All excellent points as usual. Thanks for the percentage breakdown...Something I didn't really think about.
While I have your ear, I thought Antonio Gibson might have been the better pick over Dillion. Gipson is a WR by trade but actually ran the ball somewhat often last season for Memphis. He averaged 11 YPC with and average of 8 yards after contact...
PLUS he's a pretty big dude and FAST...Thoughts?

Naing, that was who I wanted at 94 also. Way better value position wise as you noted. I like Deguara but still think that he would have been there later in the draft.

You may be right about the pressure. Some folks do put a ton of pressure on themselves. They are competitive and it is so important to them to succeed.
I can't help noting that Love as the 26th pick is going to sign a contract worth over $11M, and at least 85% of it will be fully guaranteed even if he is absolutely awful. Maybe that is a character flaw of mine, but I'd sleep better o'nights knowing that the worst that should happen is that I have $4M or more in the bank.

If Rodgers is winning multiple SBs, or even one in the next two years, I couldn’t imagine trading him for an unproven guy..

I have a terrible hunch that Love is Kizer 2.0. I hope I am wrong and don’t wish I’ll of him as he is a Packer now. But I’ve read very good articles that said the vast majority of his picks last year were not bad throws but bad decisions. There are always footwork issues to work out with just about every rookie QB but are they able to coach up someone who makes bad decisions?
PhantomII
May 16, 2020 at 10:50 pm
GB will be running the ball a lot. That should calm down the double digit picks. The new pack is going to be more user friendly than before. He should be okay. You have not seen Rams or 49ers qb have to do too much.
Leatherhead
May 17, 2020 at 11:04 am
Bad decisions? Brett Favre?
PhantomII
May 17, 2020 at 02:59 pm
Bad decisions? Holding the ball too long, = (2) broken collar bones, Aaron Rodgers?
Bad decisions? Not taking what the other team gives you and moving the chains, Aaron Rodgers?
Bad decisions? Saying you want to win another Championship and not showing up NFC Title Games 2016, 2020 Aaron Rodgers?

May 17, 2020 at 11:20 am
So the previous year he didn't make bad decisions? Oh and then lost most of his receivers and coaching staff. He won't see the field for 2 years.
Leatherhead
May 17, 2020 at 01:16 pm
Oh, I bet he will. Rodgers saw the field as a rookie in a blowout loss to the Ravens, and again the next year and he broke his foot.
Everybody agrees that you can learn by watching, but they also agree that you need some time on the field. It makes little sense to draft Love and not prepare him.

He is Kizer. And as long as Dorsey Knows the talent of the packers better then Gutey. I'm all for bringing back Dorsey to GB. Elliott wolf is with NE. But Dorsey And Reggie McKinzie should come back before it's to late.

May 17, 2020 at 06:34 pm
Ouch, yeah I was thinking the same thing Kizer 2.0, that’s scary.. So if both QBs play at a high level, and we decide to trade Love, do you really think we’ll get back more than we gave up to draft him? I can’t see that happening tbh..:(
stockholder
May 17, 2020 at 04:22 pm
I bet Love won't see the field. The talent were hoping to emerge, is still behind the best players the packers have.

Kizer was traded for Randall, that was a win even if Randall still has a job and Kizer doesn't. Addition by subtraction. Dorsey got canned in short order at his last 2 jobs, that doesn't inspire a ton of confidence he's the answer for me. Let give Love a chance.
