Felipe's Positives - Week 11, 2024

The Green Bay Packers escape Soldier Field with a 20-19 win.

The Green Bay Packers improved to 11-0 against the Chicago Bears in the Matt LaFleur era, with Jordan Love now 3-0 as a starter in the rivalry. Despite its flaws, Green Bay managed to escape Soldier Field with a 20-19 win.

Without further ado, let's dive into some positives.

1-Christian Watson

On Sunday, Watson caught four passes for 150 yards. In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Jordan Love rolled out to his right and launched a deep ball to Watson, who made a clutch catch despite double coverage. Later, with under four minutes remaining in the game, Watson came through again with a diving catch on a throw from Love.

“He is a resilient dude," Matt LaFleur said in his post-game press conference. "He shows up to work every day with the right mentality and a great work ethic. I love the guy; I love being around him.”

Watson has been a key contributor in the running game too, and it’s unfortunate that some Packers fans overlook him due to his injury history. When healthy, he’s an absolute weapon who elevates the green & gold every time he’s on the field.

2-Brenton Cox Jr

Brenton Cox hadn’t played a snap this year, but against the Bears, he recorded a tackle for loss and a sack on Caleb Williams within 16 minutes. Cox's mom made the trip to Soldier Field to watch her son play. His girlfriend and aunt were there as well.

"It means a lot to have them see me play and get back to old times, making plays," Cox said after the game.

Entering Week 11, Green Bay's pass rush ranked 29th in pass rush win rate per ESPN. With Preston Smith gone, the team will need everyone to step up, including Cox, and oh boy, he had a nice debut.

3-The Offensive line

Once again, Green Bay's offensive line delivered a stellar performance. Jordan Love wasn’t sacked and endured just one hit. The O-line allowed only seven pressures all game. Rasheed Walker was the Packers' highest-graded offensive lineman, earning an 86.2 pass-blocking grade on true pass sets.

4-Josh Jacobs

It turns out Josh Jacobs was a great investment by Brian Gutekunst. He became the first Packer to surpass 1,000 scrimmage yards since Aaron Jones in 2022. Against the Bears, Jacobs totaled 134 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown. He scored his 50th career rushing touchdown and is arguably Green Bay’s best player on offense.

5-Karl Brooks

In 1999, the Bears defeated the Packers with a blocked field goal by Bryan Robinson at the end of the game. 25 years later, Karl Brooks returned the favor.

"I was telling myself the whole time the clock was winding, ‘I’m just going to block this. I’m just going to block this,’" Brooks said after the game. "The power of the tongue is powerful, so that’s what I went out there and did."

Personally, it’s great to see Karl Brooks get the spotlight. I had the chance to sit down and host his interview on the Cheeseheads Brazil YouTube channel. The guy is as humble as they come and handles his business the right way, both on and off the field.

The Packers will host the San Francisco 49ers next in a national televised game. The Niners' season will essentially be on the line, and Green Bay has a chance to make things even harder for them.

The Bears plan on sending the video of the blocked kick to the NFL for an explanation. They believe the Packers lined up over the LS. I do not see it both tackles are in the A gap.

Virtue signaling for their fans. The NFL is never going to overturn a game result a day later, especially on this one with legal alignment.

The alignment was OK. What the Bears are saying is that the center got hit while his head was still down, which is illegal.
Watching the reply, I think they have a case.
It won't matter, but every team sends in complaints like this from time to time.

The Packers are a little frustrating right now, but..

We're 7-3. We have one of the best rushing attacks in the league. We have one of the best offenses in the league. We have a defense that's around #10 in scoring defense. And we damn sure haven't peaked yet.

As I said before, we could beat SF and Miami at home and then we'd be 9-3 when we had our rematch with the Lions.

The number of accepted penalties against the Packers was three, for 25 yards. This is a marked improvement from earlier games.

So far so good with Christian Watson's hamstrings this season. The only time he's missed due to injury was after he got twisted up like a pretzel in a high-speed collision with a couple of defenders. It's a credit to his conditioning that he only got an ankle injury that cost him one game. I'm surprised it took Watson so long to have a breakout performance. Maybe it happened partly because Dontayvian Wicks' snaps were limited in this game.

The Bears actually did get one sack in this game (Demarcus Walker), but I agree that the Packers O-line had a good game. They are maybe a little under appreciated, largely because Josh Meyers has become such a whipping boy for fans. I don't think he's that bad. The run blocking has been good enough for Josh Jacobs to be #3 in the league in rushing yards. While that is mostly a credit to Jacobs, the other RBs have run well too, and we all know what happened to Jacobs with the Raiders last year when he had terrible run blocking.

What a play by Karl Brooks! He has instantly become part of Packers lore. Nobody can ever take that away from him.

The writer has done a great job of breaking down the Packers' victory over the Bears. They've highlighted key players and moments that contributed to the win, and their analysis is insightful and engaging.
