Game-Changing Play of the Week: Aaron Rodgers Provides an All-Time Bears/Packers Moment

Aaron Rodgers gave Bears fans yet another reason to wallow in their own misery.

The Green Bay Packers, and specifically Aaron Rodgers, continue to own the Chicago Bears.

And number 12 made sure to remind the Chicago fans of that after scoring the game-sealing touchdown in the fourth quarter on Sunday afternoon.

It was a bit of an unusual game. The Packers got off to a slow start in the first quarter, thanks largely to the fact that the offense being called by Matt LaFleur resembled nothing of the offense that tends to be most effective. The Packers were trying to spread it out and force the ball downfield, whcih simply hasn't been the team's game the last couple years. This resulted in a lot of early pressure on Aaron Rodgers.

Meanwhile, the defense got off to an auspicious start largely because of the utter incompetence of Isaac Yiadom, who was forced into a starting role with both Kevin King and Jaire Alexander down with injuries. Yiadom was yanked by defensive coordinator Joe Barry after his early struggles in favor of newcomer Rasul Douglas, which proved to make a significant difference.

LaFleur also made some of the necessary adjustments on offense to put his team in a better position to succeed. Starting in the second quarter, the team began using more 12 personnel (one running back, two tight ends) and condensed packages while leaning more on running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, both of whom averaged well over five yards per carry on the day.

After the adjustments were made there was relatively little drama. Still, I wouldn't fault fans for getting just a little nervous when the Bears narrowed the gap to 17-14 in the fourth quarter.

This is one reason why the Rodgers touchdown scramble was the game-changing play of the week for me. It eliminated any chance of a Bears comeback, especially with the Bears playing a rookie quarterback who is clearly not yet ready to be a starter in the NFL.

But it was also a game-changer in the sense that it transformed what was a relatively run-of-the-mill Packers/Bears game into a game that will forever be remembered for a classic moment:

"ALL MY FUCKING LIFE. I OWN YOU. I STILL OWN YOU! I STILL OWN YOU!"

I will never recover. What an absolutely epic moment, and Bears fans online are so outrageously mad about it--because they know he's exactly right.

Imagine being a Bears fan and watching this dude regularly eviscerate your franchise for 13 years, spending an entire offseason thinking he might finally gone, only for him to come back, score a game-winning run and scream I STILL OWN YOU right in their faces.

One of the most savage things I've ever seen on a football field. An absolutely legendary moment.

Talk your shit, king.

Ha! Well said, Tim.

That was a HUGE play in the game, putting the Packers up 24-14 with about 4:40 left in regulation. I was glad to see him take off and run for the score with that side pretty much open. Had to have been a huge boost in confidence to him and the rest of the team.

The retort to the gal with flipping him double birds? Legendary, indeed!

Even though he "blacked out", he still was smart enough to direct the taunting towards the fans - a move that is not penalize-able.

Players have learnt that it is not smart to stir him up. Maybe now the fans will learn 😁

Hey, I just thought of something! If we're part owners of the Packers, and the Packers own Aaron Rodgers, and Aaron Rodgers owns the Bear fans... that means we own the Bear fans!

I know who I'm calling next time I need my toilet cleaned.

A lot of good came out of the win over the Bears. LaFleur made adjustments which he didn't do sometimes last year. Also, Rodgers is having fun and playing at a high level. Some fans including me didn't know how committed he would be to leading the Packers in maybe his last season. Running the ball with Jones and DIllon was great to see, with the patched OL having a good day. Several backups stepped up and made plays. Douglas is still learning the defense and was a good addition. Maybe Jaylon Smith will see more snaps this week. Lowry and Clark put pressure on the rookie QB, and Garvin also got in there. The defense seems to be hitting and swarming more, though still need work in the red zone. The key is to keep teams under 24 points as the offense should be able to outscore them. The team is starting to play well, and looking forward to the next game against Washington.

I wonder if in fact MLF did not make adjustments but instead stuck with game plan of running the ball, unlike losses the last two years.

Don't worry, Rodgers stays, the brain-trust goes. They fucked up the drafts and played the "weekend at Bernies" routine while Ted was facing serious health issues. That has been documented.

...and they're also sitting back thinking #12 is gone after this season, and they'll get their revenge, but also secretly s#!tting their pants that Jordan Love or whomever the next Packers QB is will own them for the next dozen years.

I never have issues with Bears Fans. They are Loyal. Living in the land of lutefisk and white bread purple frauds is another story. The shipwreck of a stadium; the Empty trophy case and the empty heads of the rot-gut vodka and peppermint schnapps crowd is truly pathetic.

Not a shining moment of sportsmanship by Aaron Rodgers, and actually an embarrassing moment for him -- which to an extent, reflects badly on the Packers, and any fans who applaud this vulgar act of adolescent bravado.
To put it another way, the Packers and their fans are better than this -- including, I like to think, Rodgers.
Things like this are somewhat understandable in the heat of the moment, but not acceptable. Rather than reveling in bad behavior, the only classy and memorable alternative is sincere regret.
May the Green Bay Packers always stand for gallantry in victory and defeat.

I cannot disagree with you more. This a violent game played by huge men and they feel emotions. They are literally struggling on every play to dominate the 11 men in front of them and they feel emotions. After forcing his will upon another group of men through extraordinarily exhausting effort only to then look up and see that crowd flipping him the bird (and today Pat McAfee showed pictures taken from the stands of numerous Bears fans flipping him the bird) Rodgers felt emotions. He simply chose to express them verbally and it was pure and honest. I spent more than a quarter century in uniform with multiple combat tours. That expression of emotion is what victors do contemporaneously after dominating their opponent. I loved what I saw.

Swisch & SanLobo, my position here is that both of you are right. At the end Aaron Rodgers admit at press conference that he was carried by the moment and by some Bears fans reaction that produce the need in him to yell them that.

He also claimed that he was not happy he did (said) what he did, but he will not excuse to those fans.

Sometimes you need to lower yourself to the level of low people to allow them to understand you. They are not able to understand better behavior. And that is why they are low character persons after all.

Generally Swisch is right, but at that moment is understandable reaction with no need to be justifying or excused. They got what they were asked for.

I think that too much has been made about this heat-of-the-moment remark by Rodgers. I neither fault nor praise him for it.

But I praise him and the team for a strong effort against a decent team, despite some adversity.

What I like is how Rodgers shook off two early sacks, had a couple good scrambles and was consistently on the money against a tough defense. For my money, he's still -- until proven otherwise -- the best QB in the league. Not the early-season MVP, perhaps, but still quite valuable.

I do have to give Barry props for recognizing that Yiadom had to go, and try someone else. I am not sure if previous coaches do anything about it until it's painfully too late.

Already tired about hearing about the "own you" stuff. This crap goes on all the time, and as long as it doesn't go racist, it's usually ignored, but because we heard it on tv... Also, it still doesn't make up for the 80s. Bears need to endure a Cubs like drought.

I credit Barry and Gray for the quick hook on Yiadom too. I would not be surprised if Matt went over to Joe to make sure he got replaced.

Yiadom is not a competent NFL CB. In fact, whenever he is on the field he is a magnet for opposing QBs.

Douglas at least knows how to cover receivers and can track the ball. Yiadom is simply a spectator on the field. I expect Yiadom will be released to make room for a player returning from IR...maybe Bahkt.

Indeed, an epic moment in Packers' lore courtesy of the GOAT, Aaron Rodgers. Such a shame that Gutekunst the Destroyer decided to throw away another four years of MVP excellence in favour of Jordan Love, a future bust cum laude QB.

I wonder what Packers' fans will be saying next February when Rodgers leaves for greener pastures elsewhere in the NFL simply as a result of Gutekunst's panic-induced hallucinatory moment of grandeur when he decided to prematurely "cancel" Rodgers in favour of the great unknown. And when Davante Adams follows AR12 to the promised land, will Packers' fans get on board the Love train to a 5 - 12 season of snowpiercing despair?

Always nice to hear your point of view.

The day will come when Aaron Rodgers isn’t our QB, and that’s a fact. I’ve watched Starr, Dickey, and Favre get replaced, so I’m not worried at all. It’ll happen.

Your prediction of 5-12 greatly overestimates Rodgers value, and It’s Insulting to the coaches and all the other players. If I were Kenny Clark, or Aaron Jones, or Alexander or Campbell or Jenkins , I’d take exception. We have our fair share of pretty good players.

We are 31-7 with Gutekunst, LaFleur, and Rodgers, with two division titles and two championship game appearances. We had a bad loss the first time, and a narrow loss in a game we should have won. So the guy you refer to as”The Destroyer” then signed the league’s best left tackle, signed a top RB, drafted offensive linemen, drafted a Day 2 “weapon”, and brought Cobb back.

That’s destruction?? Maybe you are referring to how he destroyed the defense by resigning Kenny Clark, drafting Gary, Alexander and Savage? Or acquiring Amos, Campbell, Smith and Smith?

It’s time for you to get a clue, Harold Drake, because you clearly don’t have one. You have Adoration for your Hero, that’s all.

It's always good to hear from the delusional Gutekunst party line officers who troll this site. Gutekunst has failed on so many fronts that it's laughable that so many people fail to appreciate how the Packers are poised for collapse in the post-Rodgers era and headed for the Gulag. The defensive line is one of the worst in the league. You can't win a Super Bowl with one elite DL in Kenny Clark. What has Gutekunst the Destroyer done to bring Clark help? Nothing. When the Packers could have drafted an elite WR two years ago Gutekunst instead wasted the No. 1 pick on Jordan Love, perhaps the worst college QB of the upper tier picks available through the first three rounds. And he traded UP for Love!

As a result, the Packers alienated Rodgers - last year's NFL MVP, something you cannot fathom because of your blind hatred and Soviet Kommissar mentality - and made him an enemy of the state that has caused him to force the Packers to trade or release him next year. And all this after Rodgers had expressed his determination to remain a Packer for life! Now the Packers are facing the loss of Rodgers and Adams next year, the likely departure of MVS, and an unproven QB in Love whose lack of accuracy and windmill throwing motion is a recipe for disaster.

Yes, it is true that Gutekunst has made some stellar picks and acquisitions - but he also made terrific blunders in the draft and ignored picks such as Vita Vea, Chase Claypool, and many others. Of course, the draft can be a lottery, but instead of trading up for a Justin Jefferson, for example, who went to the Vikings, Gutekunst traded up for a likely QB bust pick in Love.

Further, the Packers still have only ONE elite linebacker in De'Vondre Campbell and no visible pass rush with the loss of Z. Did Gutekunst the Destroyer recognise the lack of quality pass rushers and acquire an elite defensive lineman to help Clark as Aaron Nagler has begged him to for over a year? No. As a result the Packers have little chance of advancing deep into the playoffs with a non-existent pass rush. The injuries to the offensive line make it difficult for Rodgers to enjoy the kind of season he had last year when he is too easily and too often forced out of the pocket. The injury to MVS has exposed the lack of depth at receiver and that is why Rodgers has become obsessed with finding DA largely because he has no other elite wideouts on the team. When Rodgers and Adams leave next year, the Packers will enter a murky rebuilding phase and several losing seasons. Hence the "Gutekunst the Destroyer" label.

Thank you for reinforcing the verdict of contempt on the less than stellar, brain trust. A group of semi-smart MBAs playing a grifter's game of real estate scams while the trophy case lays barren for ten years. It is on the Oneida County Club crowd, not Rodgers. Read 'em and weep if you actually believe that red hat rainbow will transcend the Favre to Rodgers continuum. Salary to move: Bhaktiari, Za, Amos,...Don't bring up the CAP, just do the real accounting. Gutedkunst is a legacy selection, move Hendrickson to GM and bring in Andrew Brandt to set the Ledgers straight. Don't fool yourselves. Rodger s is still a top dog. Murphy et. al. not so much.

You're the man! Would love to see Andrew Brandt take over as GM. But he' too smart for the slow-witted Murphy. We need to wait until Murphy and Gutekunst the Destroyer have been run out of town. Isn't it absurd that Gozer Gutekunst has engineered the departure of the GOAT?
