Game Recap: Pack Lacks, Clocked by Jets 27-10

Packers embarrassing in all three phases Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers laid another gigantic egg, this of epic proportions. Another completely listless effort on offense, a blocked punt for a touchdown and a sieve-like defense in the second half, this team has little to build on. The offense is bad - we have to come to terms with that. And if they're unable to run the football, they won't be remotely effective. And there is something to be said for the state of the receivers - no one can get open, no one can make a play. This is a team completely lost and are embarrassing across the board.

First Quarter

The offense picked up right where it left off in the second half last week - which is nowhere at all. The ineptitude and inexplicable forgetting of Aaron Jones continued into this week's game, with the Jets' Quinnen Williams making his presence felt early. He stopped Jones early for a 5-yard loss that would ultimately force a Pat O'Donnell punt.

The defensive side, however, looked much improved. There were early blitzes from the secondary, and all around effort and disruption from the pass rushers. Preston Smith, Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare all either had a sack or were pressuring Zach Wilson.

Another bright spot, both fortunately and unfortunately, were the special teams, namely the punting. O'Donnell had an excellent field-flipper punt with a gorgeous pursuit tackle by Keisean Nixon. O'Donnell and the punt team were crucial in the first quarter in keeping the Jets' offense at bay.

Late in the first, Aaron Rodgers finally connected on a deep ball to Allen Lazard for 34 yards on a 3rd-and-7. That got the Packers into field goal range to end the first quarter, with a noticeable rain falling at Lambeau Field.

Second Quarter

From 27 yards to open the second, Mason Crosby's field goal was blocked by Jets' Quinnen Williams. It was the lone black eye on Rich Bisaccia's unit in the first half of this game. Their pursuit and coverage on punts can't be overlooked - it'd helped keep the game close to that point.

With the Jets taking back over, the defense kept the heat on, with an Enagbare sack that was aided with a chop block by Jets' OT Duane Brown to really back the Jets up. On the insuing punt, newcomer Eric Wilson rushed through the line to block the punt. With the Packers in business with excellent field position, their struggles continued.

A hold by Elgton Jenkins negated a 22-yard Aaron Jones run, then Rodgers was promptly sacked on third down on a stunt by the Jets DL. A common theme in the offenses struggles so far has been some just brutal whiffs by the line. Miscommunications, confusion, and getting outmuscled among the themes for the issues. However, Pat O'Donnell came in to stop the bleeding and pinned the Jets deep once again.

After the defense came up with another stop, it was time for the Packers' offense to have another go. But after two quality AJ Dillon downhill runs, a fumble on 3rd-and-1 on the Rodgers-to-Dillon exchange gave the ball back to the Jets. The offense, at this point completely inept, was seen circled on the sideline getting some words from head coach Matt LaFleur. Meanwhile, the defense did enough to hold New York out of the end zone, but they were able to connect on a Greg Zuerlein field goal to give the airplanes a 3-0 lead.

The Packers offense would stall yet again, this time in Jets territory. After Rodgers tried to hit Doubs down field on 4th-and-5, the Jets took back over. But with time running out in the half, Zuerlein missed a long field goal. With seconds left, Rodgers and the offense finally found some footing, getting the ball down to the 10-yard-line for a chip shot Mason Crosby field goal going into the locker room at 3-3.

Third Quarter

The defense came out flying, with early pressures and a near-pick by Jaire Alexander to force an early 3-and-out for New York. With the ball, the Packers went to Aaron Jones early and often. But on third down, Royce Newman missed his man and let up another sack of Rodgers. A brutally tough day for Newman.

On the next Jets possession, Zach Wilson hit a deep ball to Corey Davis to put the Jets in the redzone. On the next play, a reverse to Braxton Berrios put the Jets up 10-3. The Packers next turn stuck with a common theme - an Aaron Rodgers sack, holding the ball on third down. However, on the punt, the Jets blocked it for a touchdown to put their foot on Green Bay's throat at 17-3.

Penalites would help out the Packers on the next drive, with two sustaining possessions. On third down, Rodgers once again faced heavy pressure, however an illegal contact penalty kept the ball with Green Bay. After a 14-yard screen pass to Aaron Jones, Rodgers hit a deep back-shoulder pass to Allen Lazard for a 25-yard touchdown to make it 17-10 Jets.

New York, however, would go right back down the field. After a screen to CJ Uzomah and pass over the middle to Tyler Conklin, the third quarter closed with New York moving the ball again.

Fourth Quarter

Breece Hall took a well-designed counter run to the house on the Jets' first play of the fourth to make it 24-10. On Green Bay's next shot, Allen Lazard dropped a 3rd-and-1 conversion on a nice PBU by Sauce Gardner. Going for it on 4th-and-1 from their own 35, Green Bay went for it and barely got enough from Aaron Jones to sustain the drive. From there, Lazard pulled in a 7-yard catch, then Tonyan converted the third down. Amari Rodgers converted another first down, running into Sauce Gardner, who left the game.

The drive would stall with another Jenkins holding call after a delay of game. Going for it on 4th and 14, the Packers would fail giving it back to the Jets, who went back to the Breece Hall show with boos raining down on the lackluster Packers.

Now down at the Packers 2 yard line, Michael Carter got in on the action, but only moving the ball closer to the goal line. The Jets now in clock-killing mode, they're content with short, ineffective runs. On 3rd-and-goal, after the defense stopped Wilson on a read-option, an offside penalty on Rashan Gary gave the Jets another chance. This time, Wilson tried to sneak, but was stopped short. The Jets kicked a field goal to make it 27-10 and all but end the game.

Offensive MVP

If I had to pick, I'd go with Allen Lazard. His touchdown in the third quarter was the lone highlight for a completely dysfunctional and useless offense.

Defensive MVP

I saw a lot of Kingsley Enagbare today. He looked fast, put pressure on the QB, and was able to notch a sack. They'll need him to keep improving to provide depth to the pass rush.

What Went Right

Nothing. Not even a dominant first-half effort was enough. This is a bad football team across the board, and it starts at the top with its leadership.

What Went Wrong

All of it. Every single thing.

That was Ted Thompson. And about 80% of Packers fans thought Thompson was destroying the roster because he was drafting football IQ instead of athletic wonders.

Sorry, I don't agree that Rodgers is smart. He has made so many wrong decisions today, last week and lrt's not forget the last two championship games. He may be the most talented player ever to throw a football, but not nearly as smart as that prick Brady and other great QBs, ie. Manning, Montana, Marino, etc.

10 points scored over the last 6 quarters of football. All 10 came against the Jets, who entered the game giving up 29.5 ppg. But, yeah, let's blame it on the defense.

It’s team wide. Teams with no leadership direction tend to decline across the board. Players know when the coaches are clueless and overmatched. Then all the issues expand like wet rice.

Definitely right! The wide receivers are subpar. The offensive line is…offensive. And Rodgers has not been pin point on some throws to open receivers. Sure the defense is not as great as projected but it’s been the offense that is letting the team down.

$50,000,000 per year because he used to be really good?

High paid left tackle because. He used to be really good?

High paid(occasionally injured) db who is good when not injured and used properly.

It starts with the GM and HC.

Rodgers was off most of the game. Early on he seemed to struggle to hold the ball and to get a spiral. To say he was fine is delusional. It’s fair to say there were reasons for that, including his thumb and rank O line play, but he missed plenty he would normally made when he did have time.

Packerspatsy,
Every game, every season where the Offense struggles fans mindlessly preach about the horrid OL that can't pass block and the WRs that cant get open. Yet, when one actually looks back at the film, the majority of the time the issue is Rodgers either missing or ignoring the open man on the field, instead deciding to hold the ball and attempt to extend the play past 3, 4, or more seconds, waiting for his "trusted" target to get open deep.

True enough, today the OL struggled to pick up stunts. You know what's a great way to help that line out? GET THE BALL OUT OF YOUR HANDS. Take the freakin' check down. There's guys out there that can be thrown to. There always are.

As another poster mentioned- and yes, I understand the defense was playing soft zone- but Love got the ball out of his hands decisively. If Rodgers does that through much of the game today, the OL isn't a factor. We might even move the ball.

Was today's loss solely on Rodgers? Nope, it was a complete team failure. But I absolutely refuse to be a patsy and pretend Rodgers is a victim. Packers fans have been placing blame on everyone but Rodgers for six plus seasons now. Literally claiming no one is open when the film shows clearly, yes, receivers are open. Not doing that. You keep on doing you, refuse to see what's happening. That's fine.

How the hell Joe Burrow find himself in the SB last season (and this year) than? He did not had OL. He had 5 pieces of wood in front of him. That is what I called clever and excellent QB.

It is not so hard to play good at QB when you have 5+ seconds to scan the field and you'll, for sure, find someone open to throw to.

It may be also that ACR (aka DIva/Choker - I know I'm immature!) makes life harder for his OL. What would you say? Maybe if he will have throws inside 3 seconds of snap he would be much more on timing and keeping OL quite OK.

Do you think that is at least possibility?

Interior OL is not good with Newman being the worst. Every time I watched Newman he was sliding the wrong way on a stunt and allowing a free rusher at Rodgers. Runyon wasn't a lot better and Myers was just okay. Neither tackle was great, but the IOL is the problem spot.
Jenkins need to slide inside to guard and Nijman needs to be the right tackle. Newman needs to find a seat at the end of the bench.

The Packers simply do not have a receiver that can consistently beat man coverage. Gute needs to go shopping or this season is over. Teams have the formula for beating the current Packers - play man coverage and apply pressure to Rodgers. The offense is not scoring enough to beat very many teams.

The defense played well in the first half - thank you Joe Barry for finally playing some press man coverage. Unfortunately the lousy run defense showed up in the second half again. The d-line/OLBs can't hold an edge consistently and Walker gets out of position too easily against cut backs.

The defense is okay, but not great and the offense is horrible. I think Gute should have taken the Broncos offer for Rodgers and started the rebuild this year........

Just a pitiful effort at home in all facets of the game. I sense the players have given up on this coaching staff? There is just so much to fix. I don't see this team making the playoffs given its present freefall. No changes, no acquisitions, no heart! It feels like the 80s again for GB.

Is it 3rd or 4th and short? Deep ball it is. It's not surprising, it's expected and not clever. Play calling was uninspired to put it nicely. A-A-ron is inaccurate. Can't blame the receivers when it's underthrown. And if they are blitzing up the middle, set a trap or delayed hand off. Do something different. It's not working on offense.

26/41. Opts to throw into double coverage when he could’ve ran for a first. Overthrows constant deep balls. Throws at receivers feet. But only if we had Odell or some other premier wide receiver… oh wait we had a premier wide receiver last year named Davante Adams and this jackass still couldn’t get it done. The fans crying and saying the receivers are the problem fucking astonish me

I tried to find hope, but this is what the reality is:

This team is not very good. They are bad, in fact. Rodgers looks old and like he had too much Ayauhasca. Newman is awful, I don’t know why Tom hasn’t replaced him. Why are we starting Jenkins on the outside when he’s coming back from an ACL and his mobility is limited? Why is Aaron Jones not more involved? Bad coaching decision-making and play calling (don’t know why we go deep for it when that isn’t our strength).

On defense, the unit has some studs, like Gary, Clark, and Alexander, and others that are good, like P. Smith and Amos, but everyone else is overrated. Play has been bad overall, and outside of these players, the others have not done well. Part of it could be coaching, as well, although in the first half, at least, I thought Barry did better.

If it were me I would get a better GM and competent HC and DC and a better owner than Mark Murphy too. We have to remove the roots of the problem, not just cut off the leaves.

STs laid some ugly eggs, but that could just be because the blocking was bad. However, we also blocked a punt as well. Bissacia, even through the lumps, has done an amazing job, though, revamping the STs.

It is time for a rebuild. Gutsy needs to make trade moves now. He should look to trade Bakh and Jones (old players who could get some good capital), Lowry, Reed, and Amos (players in the final year of their contract), and cut Rodgers at the end of the year. MLF and Barry are not the right guys for the job, and if it wasn’t evident before, it is now. Invest in Love, see what Tom can do, and be smart. After MLF is gone, some interesting options for head coach could be Ben Johnson (Lions OC), Shane Steichen (Eagles OC), DeMeco Ryans (49ers DC) or Ejiro Evero (Broncos DC).

Gutey has been the only decent leader, although he whiffed on drafting players like Devin Lloyd and Alec Pierce. Everyone else should certainly go except for Bissacia, and Gutey perhaps could go. It is time to do the responsible thing and rebuild around Love - time to start over

Even if we trade like you mentioned. Given that Gutey hasn't been hitting good with his draft picks none of the picks last 3 years turned out to be studs. Yes if we had stayed at 52 we could've had Alec Pierce and even Pickens.
Coming to Llyod that's a big scratcher he is too much into RAS and measurables. Look how llyod is playing I am not down on walker but we could've had a difference maker in Llyod even last year we missed one with humphrey instead went with Myers.

The lack of effort overall was astonishing. But the lack of receiving talent sealed the deal in the end. A GM that holds the opinion that recievers are 'overvalued ' yet pays a top tier quarterback makes little sense to me.
The team is headed in the wrong direction...

Paying an aging QB 50+ million with zero Wr help and Poor oline is a recipe for disaster and that is what is biting this team now. Coming to defense may be RAS isn't working for us. We could've had some difference makers if weren't too much into RAS.

Wow, just wow... I can't believe Mark Murphy, and it was Mark Murphy IMO, gave Rodgers that contract. Gute is a puppet and it's really too bad because I don't think he's a horrible GM. He's not great, but he's been pretty good.

This coaching staff is just clueless. WHY would you continue to play Jenkins at RT when HE IS A GUARD?...PERIOD!! Why do they continue to play Royce Newman? He may have been better today with rollerskates as opposed to cleats. Hell, he may have been able to pick up a stunt on skates. To make it worse I saw Hanson out there too. NO CLUE!

I'm also wondering if the other 52 players on this roster aren't a little tired of all the face-sucking this coaching staff and front office do with Rodgers. I mean to watch this franchise turn down all that draft capital and then pay that man $150 million, has to just eat at you as another player. I mean that contract is so crippling in so many ways, and it is that way for YEARS.

Wow I'm so glad I decided that football wasn't important enough to waste my time watching overpaid divas this season. Havent seen or listened to any games this year. I don't need the frustration and stress. The world is so full of that already. I just arrive post mortem to inspect the crime scene.
It is of little surprise to me that the offense as well as the whole team is struggling. The general formula for success across the league with an aging star quarterback is surround him with as much talent as possible yet for some reason the packers org gives rodgers almost nothing but tries to improve our D to elite levels. They lost three of their top 4 receivers after last season. Packers go defense AGAIN with 2 picks in round 1.They grab watkins out of the Walmart bargain bin and through him a couple of raw rookies. Watkins is injury prone. Rodgers doesn't like throwing to rookies. He doesn't trust them. Watsons rookie season is off to a poor start and doubs shows some flash but still is raw and will develop fully after rodgers is gone..So now rodgers is struggling to find his trusted targets and the offensive futility is leading to the defense being on the field too much. The o line is also struggling as their best two lineman are coming off significant injuries. In closing I'll say what I commented months ago after trading Adams, losing MVS and EQ then redoing Rodgers contract that this team is stuck in no mans land of a reload and a complete changing of the guard. I didnt get it then and still don't.

The Packers are bad - let's face it. We are (or should be) entering a rebuild, and we need all of the draft capital we can get. Here are some trades I propose:

Trade LT David Bakhtiari to a contender in immediate need of a LT (Chargers; Slater is out for the year, Ravens; Stanley seems to always be on IR) or a prospective contender (Rams, Colts - both have bad O-lines and are in need of a LT) or a contender in long term need of one (Chiefs; Orlando Brown is likely gone after this season). We could maybe get a first round pick for him, or a second + fourth/fifth, maybe.

Also, trade Aaron Jones to a contender in need of a RB or more weapons (Bills, Ravens, 49ers, Rams). We could maybe get a second for him, perhaps a third or a swap of second + third/fourth picks.

Also, Trade Randall Cobb. It doesn't matter for how much, but the dude deserves to be on a contending team like the Bills or Chiefs or Eagles so he can have a shot at winning the SB

Trade Dean Lowry to a team in need of DL depth (Ravens, 49ers, Chargers, Dolphins, Cardinals, Browns, Falcons, Seahawks) for a day 3 draft pick.

Trade Adrian Amos to a team in need of another Safety (Steelers, Bills, Cardinals, Giants, Jaguars, Buccaneers, Falcons) for a third-fourth round pick.

Through the first 6 games I’ve seen improved special teams but not spectacular. After the first blocked kick…no max protect? that’s coaching. Not getting pressure with 4 and not stoping the run…it’s time to re-evaluate the situation schemes since we have the players. So…yes I will say after the first 6 games, the sky is falling. I have not seen any silver lining. The combo of poor OL play and poor scheme is killing the team. Going from a playoff team to this….is terrible. Minnesota gets a new coach, sends Diggs packing and still manages to not suck. On some level I think LaFluer has lost control of Rodgers….every play today looked like McCarthy/ Rodgers plays. I had seen zero creativity or a team that gives a shit.

Also coaching, it’s a non division team, QB has a bad thumb…put the young scrambling QB in…why risk anything. 2nd , Last 2 + minutes of the game and 3 scores down…why is Lazard playing? Why is Dilllon still in there? That’s shit coaching. 3rd, OBJ isn’t saving this shitshow. Rodgers has been overthrowing , under throwing, throwing behind, leading too much. Clearly Tom Clemens isn’t adding anything to this team other than “ Rodgers ” likes” him. I’ll watch em, but it’s painful.

Just for that blocked FG - the kick was low. LOW! Watch again. It was low because Mason Crosby lost the strength in his kicking leg because of age. And possible injury. He cant kick in in the end zone, what to say more. You'll see more and more low kicks from Mason, especially at long distances. He is trying to compensate the strength of the kick. He is another player on the team because of his past, not because he is as good in present.

Those decisions are ACR decisions, not to feel to old around himself (Lewis, Cobb, Mason Crosby). Why we keep Lewis on the roster when he barely play? Ask yourself that.

Everybody was saying it's a very winnable game against the Jets like they'd be an easy win... Has anyone really watched them? They look like a pretty promising team this season with a great 1-2 at rb and a pretty damn scrappy and explosive defense. I knew it wouldn't be easy but apparently the Packers thought it would be an easy game. But wow still surprised me with how low our bottom can be, blocked field goal and block punt, and offense couldn't get a block or consistent big play and wouldn't have done anything at all had we not been gifted multiple penalties that literally wasn't being seen half the time lol. Such a pitiful performance, so many chances and could barely keep it competitive. Call it quits and just rebuild already, tired of Rodgers, tired of the low energy, tired of not bouncing back from adversity, why keep kicking debt down the road if this is the best team you can field? Cut the cord let's just embrace the rebuild

You sound like a lions fan. 1/3 of the season in and this team looks lost and unprepared. With teams like the Bills, Eagles, Rams, Cowboys, and Vikings again still on the schedule they’ll win 6 games at best, it’s called being realistic. I expect wins against teams like the jets and championship caliber play from the packers, like REAL packer fans do. I don’t “hope” for change I expect it.

Pre-season is over. Yet this team is playing like it's pre-season. Jenkins can't handle the Rt position. He's too frustrated, and can't work with Newman. I fear the All-pro Talk went to his head. His position is LG. = BECAUSE WE NEED PASS PROTECTION FIRST!
Thought Dillion had trouble. In fact: Both Rbs had their problems. So where was the run blocking? The holes were too small.
It's time to move Runyan out. Don't give me Tom at LG either. He should be the back up center, and Hanson should have been cut.
The rotation must be at RG. Not RT. The RT position must be Gutey's fix before WR. I say don't screw with Nijman. Start Walker or look for a castoff.

1. This is not a talented team, We got rid of out talent, Adams, Scantling and St Brown, all three are having good years.Big Mistake
2. Rodgers opted to sit out pre season when he could have used that time to work out our new guys and prepare for the season and he didnt do it and leFleur said okay. Big mistake
3. Rodgers skipped otas because he didnt need them but others needed him to be there. Big mistake
4. Team put to much faith in both Bak and Jenkins coming back to form
Big Mistake
5. LeFleur decided this would be a run first pass second team with an MVP QB on board Big Mistake
6. Gutt picked Joe Barry to install Petine and Capers twilight zone defense Big Mistake

Thus this team and the play was lost before the games were played.
Rodgers no one to throw too, defense cant stop passing teams, o line is shaky across the board, young receivers are still clueless in game six. Should any of us really expect this team to be competitive?
We barely beat the bears.

What I was telling on my post for over 2 years is that I do not like how this team is playing, behave and doing. All that problem was caused by change of structure where Mark Murphy started to mess with all the aspects of running the football operation. He decided to have control over discussions between HC, GM and SC man (Ball). He made and make decisions which brought Packers where they are - to the complete mess. He installed QB as the last decisionmaker on many aspects, from whom to bring to the team, to game planning and play calling. Thank God he did not gave him authorities to draft the players...

Do you remember last decision on which we can agree was MLF decision during the NFCCG vs Bucs - to kick the FG and try to stop Bucs (D did wonderful job until that shitty call from zebras on Kevin King) and consequently win the game with last possession. ACR was so pissed that he just went to the bench with no look towards MLF. After that moment you who believe that MLF is running the show, you are delusional. On offense show is running by ACR. Play book is made under his huge influence, Stenavich was picked to be OC - it looks now that he reached his level of incompetency - and they brought Joe Barry as DC, MLF pal. All those changes was made by Mark Murphy. MLF, who wanted to be HC shut up and gave all rights to his aging QB.

To me it really looks strange how you can bow to your employee, after he throw a thousands buckets of shit on you. Where is your self-respect? Or, you are small scared mouse in front of cat that licks its cheeks. And do that to show to the world you are the Man, you are The One who can solve everything...

I truly believe that all other owners were laughing on Mark Murphy and that Mark Murphy has no respect amongst them any more. He became laughable figure for them.

That is the reason why Packers team are what they are today - disjointed team with no heart and power to play significant role in the football. Team is always reflection of it leadership.

I told you so, but you never believe. It is OK. I know I'm right and I know this is not good for any of us. But my life teach me that if I do not see and admit the truth behind everything what is happening, I'll make wrong decisions. And my life will soon become hell.

I'll have no intention to change the colors of the team I'm rooting for. For good and for bad, I'll be Packers fan. But I'll never ever allow me to not seek the truth and to make my opinion on known facts.

If they lose vs Commanders that will be proof what I was telling you and what has to be done. If they win, that will be just fog in our eyes till another, and another, and another heartbreaking loses.

Thank you guys, I really enjoy discussions here. I learned from you a lot of football and I wish all of us that this charade stops ASAP.
