Green Bay Packers Sign DB Dominique Martin & Place Randy Ramsey on IR

After suffering an ankle injury in practice, Randy Ramsey has been placed on IR and the Green Bay Packers signed DB Dominique Martin to the 90-man roster.

The Green Bay Packers made a new addition on Thursday, signing cornerback Dominique Martin, who they recently had in for a workout.

Martin played his college ball at Tarleton State University, and his final season came in 2016. He began as a receiver, totaling 34 receptions for 486 yards with three touchdowns over two seasons.

During his final year, Martin transitioned to cornerback, where he logged 41 total tackles, one of which was for a loss, along with one sack, five interceptions, and 15 pass breakups.

Since leaving college, he has spent time playing in Europe and, more recently, in The Spring League. Martin is considered an NFL rookie and has no NFL experience. Prior to working out with the Packers, Martin also had tryouts with Seattle and New England.

Given the recent injury to Stanford Samuels that has kept him out of practice -- the timetable for his return is unknown right now -- coupled with the fact that the Green Bay Packers didn't have many cornerbacks to begin with, this is a move to help bolster depth at the position.

The corresponding move to create space on the roster for Martin was that Randy Ramsey was placed on IR, and his season is now over. Last week Ramsey left practice with an ankle injury, and right away, it was believed to be quite severe.

Ramsey was the team's fourth edge rusher in 2020 but where Green Bay will truly miss him is on special teams. According to PFF, he took the fourth most special teams snaps of any Packer last season and had the third-highest grade.

Green Bay will now turn to second-year players Jonathan Garvin or Tipa Galeai to fill that role.

Well, have to hand it to the scouts. Runs a 4.4 second time per his college coach and appears to be an athlete despite the most tortuous of routes to the NFL. Here’s a little more info: https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/new-cornerback-took-unusual-path-to-...

I wonder how much STs he has played.

Packers have little depth at corner , if Alexander goes down they are in big trouble .

I don't think the Packers are that weak at CB. King, Stokes, Sullivan, Jackson, Ento, Jean-Charles, Hollman, etc. They would miss Alexander but to say they would be in big trouble is not correct.

With a relative shortage of CB’s on the current roster that means the team may keep Jackson and King unless someone else shines.

What is a shortage? They have ten CBs now. Did you really think King was going to be cut? Jackson may be on cusp if Jean-Charles and Ento continue to play well. But that is simply depth improvement.

And, granted, it's camp, but Jackson actually sounds like he's doing better than previous years. He or King could be deemed unnecessary by the second half of the season, but right now I doubt they are fighting for spots, especially since Stokes sounds like he's still very raw.
