And just like that, "The party's over". Sure we still can win the division with big help from the 9ers and Lions but playoff hopes (even if we get in) look pretty sad. Yes of course anything can happen, it is the NFL and as the saying goes, "Any given Sunday".
As for this game, Jordo, before he was K.O.d was missing receivers and throwing behind them with frequency, Fumbles at critical times, running to the #0, 1 and 2 holes constantly without mixing it up (Matt?), Nixon people are asking why you are considered the #1 corner while I'm asking how you made it in the league and special teams blunder (Romeo it's time you get a spine. Man up will ya.) all but handed the game away. Tough loss? Understatement. Wondering if I'll come out of this funk these past two game put me in before Baltimore comes in next week.
Merry Christmas to all you fellow, Homer die hard, Cheesehead Packer fans....

Missing receivers and throwing behind them with consistency? Love was 8 of 13 (61.5%) for 77 yards passing. No, he didn't score a TD on his 12 play, 31 yard opening drive that ended in an (in my opinion) ill-advised 4th down attempt on the road in a 0-0 game, but he put the Packers in scoring position on both his 2 drives (the second being a 14 play, 70 yard drive that ended in a field goal and put the Packers in the lead at the time.)

Shoulda, coulda, woulda.. but if the Packers had that extra 3 points on the board, this game looks different and theoretically is out of reach for the Bears at the end of the 4th Q, and there's probably no on sides kick attempt.

As it actually went down, this game came down to 3 things- Doubs completely botching the on sides kick recovery, a botched snap exchange from Sean Rhyan to Malik Willis, and Keisean Nixon doing his style of coverage- not playing the ball, but instead, just draping himself all over and attacking the WR.

If not for those three unfortunate events, this is likely a 2-score Packers win.

Add to the list of undisciplined players the Bears have third and 20 and we get called for a facemack. Shit for brains. Once again, the Bears are a better team than the Packers. The Packers probably won't make the playoffs.

really? what else on a player "feels" like a facemask? about the only other thing on a player would probably be the "horsecollar" you don't have to see where your hand is, you can feel it when you are grabbing

The facemask was huge, and certainly could be on my list as it helped extend their drive. It could be in my list. However...

I wouldn't classify that as a "shit for brains" mistake, when you're rushing the passer with your arms extended, it's reflex to attempt to grasp when you feel contact. Fingers get into facemasks and by the time you know what's happening it's too late. He didn't continue to hold it and try to drag him down, he released quickly.. that was most likely an honest, competitive mistake. HUGE mistake, no doubt.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the part where I said anything about Josh Jacobs "(getting) a pass" for his fumble.

I didn't list it because the Bears took over at their own 2 yard line and led a 5 play drive that resulted in them punting from their own 21.

For the record, the Packers scored their only TD on the resulting drive.

Yes, JJ punching it in for a TD would be huge, and fumbling is always bad- horrible on the goal line- but in this particular instance, a horrible fumble on the goal line didn't lead to Bears points or a swing in the game- it just delayed the TD drive.

Does that help explain my rationale for not including it?

He was carried by the defense, and stripped. Light years away from fumbling the ball. The rules used to call a play dead before that, I don't know what they say in these days of the tush push.

Going 1 for 9 in the red zone over the last two games just might have something to do with it. If you're in a position where one play wins or loses the game, you're doing it wrong.

Absolutely always take the points on the road on first drive of the game. Red zone efficiency was horrendous. Very questionable play calling at times. This is on MLF. Yes Jacobs fumble hurt. Romeo absolutely has to make that play on the onside kick. This will cost RIch B and MLF their jobs. Possibly Gute as well. LVN is a bust. Nixon isn’t a #1 CB. MLF just doesn’t have what it takes to get us to a SB. Yes we are decimated with injuries but he has no situational awareness and doesn’t make good decisions. The buck stops with MLF and his loyalty to RB will be his downfall.

This loss is not costing anyone their job. That is simply not how things are done in Green Bay.

Nixon may not be a #1 CB on any other team, but he is in GB.

LVN might be a bust on any other team, but in GB we'll be hearing about how he'll be breaking out in year 4 for the next 9 months.

MLF may not get us a to a Super Bowl, but in GB getting to the Super Bowl is no longer the measuring stick for success.

And Rich B may coordinate the worst Special Teams Unit in the NFL, but in Green Bay that not only does not get you fired it gets you a promotion just like the one Rich got earlier this season.

We will be running it back next season with CheeseheadTV selling the hope just like the past 15 seasons.

We do what we do.

So we go on the road and have the game all but won with a backup QB and the entire roster gutted by injuries, and because ONE PLAYER muffed the onside kick it’s all Matt LaFleur’s fault and it’s going to cost him his job. And “possibly” the GM too.

Exactly.

Perfectly acceptable loss last night in Chicago.

Perfectly acceptable loss to Cleveland in week 3 and perfectly acceptable losses to Philly, Denver, and Carolina and that tie to Dallas.

Perfectly acceptable that the Pack has not won the NFC North in the past 4 seasons and perfectly acceptable that it has been no higher than a #7 seed the past 4 seasons.

Like I said, ain't nobody getting fired in Green Bay because everything is all good.

Wait, so you honestly expect to win every game? And if we don't, no matter what the reason, even a fluke onside kick, you ignore the games we won and bring up the losses as "proof" we need to fire the coach? Wow. Can't argue with that.

Especially since MLF won the game last night until Romeo Doubs lost it. Not matt Lafleur, Romeo freaking Doubs.

Yeah but Carolina and fucking Cleveland. Got it.

Okay go ahead and tell us the long list of head coaches with a better winning percentage at this stage of their careers. I'll wait.

Go ahead and name one specific thing Matt LaFleur did wrong last night. Again I'll wait. He called a great game with a second string QB and won the game for you until Doubs muffed that onside kick. You could not ask for better coaching. We lost because we ran out of players, one muffed onside kick and some bad luck, period, but dispshits like you can't deal with it so you call for the coach's head and cry like a spoiled, sore-loser little bitch. Pathetic.

I couldn't watch the first half but got updates and I was shocked. Packers D held up much better than anticipated - until the end. Then Willis does his job - until the end. Don't really know what to make of this. We know Nixon is not perfect. This was a perfect pass. I wish Love would throw more like this.

The only question I can think of - did Basaccia tell his guys to make sure to catch the ball. It's obvious he should not have to. But that is the the job of a coach at that instance. If he didn't, he should be fired - for this and all the other stupid special teams mistakes.

Bad news is that this guarantees Hafley's departure even more.

And NOBODY should ever complain about we Packer fans who are nervous until the game is over.

Wait? It’s somehow Rich Bisiaccia’s fault that Romeo Doubs is a coward? Luckily Doubs is gone in two games. Three games if we’re lucky enough to lose a wildcard game.
This roster is loaded with players that are boat anchors. They just drag the team down. At some point the guy that brought them here has to be scrutinized. Highly paid or highly drafted boat anchors.

This team is beat up and injured. Big credit to Malik Willis for coming in and playing really well. We had this game won.

The Bears got lucky there with Doubs messing up the onside kick. He has to recover that one.

I really do not think Bisaccia is to blame here. Doubs has to execute, Bisaccia is not on the field.

We are not entirely out of the NFCN hunt however we have to get some help from the 49ers and Lions against the Bears.

This team has a ton of talent, but mental mistakes and poor execution by core team players has doomed this team and unfortunately is simply been the reality with MLF.

If we sneak into the playoffs and get bounced earlier (or if we do not get into the playoffs period) Policy will have some tough decisions on MLF and Gute.

And how on earth is Gute to blame for all the injuries? Jesus Christ they went on the road and lost their starting QB, on top of being without their best pass rusher, and STILL had the game won but for one muffed onside kick.

The knee-jerk comments in here crack me up. “Tough decisions on MLF and Gute” oh okay dude yeah I’m sure they’ll get right on that. 😂

They do have tough decisions on both. That’s why they are both lame ducks after this season.
Do you think Ed Policy will extend them after this season, if he didn’t before the season? Based on what? Almost in Denver? Almost in Chicago? Losing or tying entirely winnable games against Cleveland, Carolina, Dallas ?
Or the plethora of talent Gutekunst has assembled and either drafted high or over paid for…. Or even worse failed to address players that repeatedly fail.

I agree 100% that It was not on Bisaccia. I'm not a huge fan of his body of work, but there wasn't an issue with formation or tactic whatsoever on that on sides attempt tongiht, Doubs just completely misread the bounce of the ball and botched the attempt to secure the ball.

Doubs has been avoiding contact in punt returns all season. He either fair catches, runs to the sidelines, or ducks down. I think his concussions have him spooked. I think they need to question if he should continue to play that role, and apparently, as a kickoff onside receiver.

He's a player that has repeatedly come up with big time catches in big moments when you absolutely need a catch or score.

He's not a world-beater, and he drops his fair share of balls (2024 specifically), but historically on 3rd downs or in the red zone, he finds a way to make it happen.

I don't necessarily think he needs to be retained, but have a little respect for the guy. He has been a big part of many wins this team has had.

I agree that a guy like Doubs would be great to keep, he's got chemistry and finds his moments to make impactful plays. He's the type of player you want in your stable of WRs. I think he's better suited as a supporting cast member, not the star. I also agree he probably won't be in green and gold next season unless he makes the decision to turn down bigger money elsewhere to remain a Packer.

Rhyan is playing "okay" at center. He gets blown off the ball too often and his snaps are not exactly picture perfect (I don't expect them to be, but a true center would be an improvement.)

Packers should still be looking to draft a center, particularly since Jenkins future is in serious doubt.

It's weird, when you watch the slow motion clip, that's not what it looks like at all. What it looks like is a guy who misread the bounce of the ball, squatted down and put his hands low in front of the last point of contact between the ball and the ground, and then the ball bounced over his hands and bounced off his chest. He then fell to the ground in a moment of "oh shit, I botched the fielding of this ball" terror, desperately trying to locate and secure the now loose ball.

You know, when you're fielding an on-sides kick, EVERYONE is taught to get down immediately and avoid the inevitable contact. I feel like your ranting is an expression of how you view the player in general rather than what happened on the field on this particular play.

Crickets? No one wants to chime in and tell me about how the hands squad for on sides kick attempts are taught to catch the ball, stand straight up and wait to get creamed by the opposing players? How they're taught "whatever you do, don't try to get down immediately"?

The only way the Bears beat us is randomness like that.

I’m not at all worried about the Bears. Backup QB. Very little Jacobs. No Tom or Williams. Not mention Kraft and Parsons. The division isn’t even lost, but if they make the dance, we’ll be playing them again in the wild card round.

A game I fully expect to win. The better team lost today.

You mean the team that got called for a facemask on third and 20, can't defend a receiver in the end zone on the last play of the game, fumbles an onside kick (statistically this happens 5% of the time), fumbles a snap in overtime and can't cover a receiver again from a long pass? That's what you call a better team?

If THEY make the dance? Do you mean the Packers? Right now that's a big if IMO... Now IF the Packers do make the playoffs, that would mean they beat the Ravens next Saturday at home. The Ravens are going to be desperate. Right now I don't have a lot of faith on my boys though.

While I agree the better team lost today, it seems to happen MORE to Matt LaFleur. Lets not forget about the Cleveland game. What about the Carolina game? Hell, the Dallas tie?

I think we beat the pants off these guys right up until the onside kick. We did a great job of shortening the game and limiting Chicago's possessions.

Ultimately, we turned the ball over 4 times: Twice on downs, once on Jacob's fumble, once on Doubs' muff.

We aren't good enough to play on the road, against the division leader, with our backup QB, and turn it over 4 times land win.. I guess that's LaFleur's fault.

Teams take on the coaches identity and IMO MLF is SOFT and too damn emotional on the sidelines.

Players obviously sense things like that and LaFleur has ALWAYS wore emotions on his sleeve. Hell, just look at hos challenge record over the years. Too many challenges by LaFleur are emotional.

At least Howie Long had the balls to call him out for dirty play (against the namby-pamby other ex-jocks) at half-time. What I want to know is why didn't the vaunted "AI Assist" not look at that game winning "catch" ??? When I ran it back it sure looked like the WR never had any control of the ball at all. Plus it hit the ground. IMHO that was NOT a catch. Convenient that in OT the coaches can't question that. I know that's not the most important take from this game, but wtf?

Have to win the final two.

Here’s a thought: resigning Nixon in 2024 was the kiss of death, not cutting Doubs when he was pouting last year was a kiss of death.
The rest is insanity. That’s what the expectations of rooting for this particular version of the Packers has become. Excuse laden insanity. The results never change.
It starts with accountability. Remember what Vince Lombardi told the 64 rookies in that famous video clip.
“ In this business you either win or you’re gone”
I hope Ed Policy’s first off season brings accountability to the forefront.

Yes, the teams get stronger when you cut starters and don't replace them.

Winners win and the Bears found a way to win. Again. Tip of the hat to Ben Johnson for turning the Bears around in his first season. The Packers played hard, but once again, a few coaching and player mistakes made the difference. Again. Nevertheless, a winning season will keep the Packers faithful looking ahead to next season. That’s the primary goal of Packers management. Wishing all the best over the Holidays.

Well, the undisciplined shit for brains Packers decided they would rather make tee times instead of playing in the playoffs. Third and 20, maybe we should do a facemask penalty. I know, let's leave a receiver wide open in the end zone on what should have been the last play of the game. Let's not forget to fumble the snap on 4th down in OT. It's going to be an onside kick, We know it's going to be an onside kick. Kick it to me! I'm a receiver, after all. As I posted on November 16 that the Packers won't make the playoffs, they earned not making the playoffs. They have no right to be in the playoffs. Just ask Carolina with 7 wins and Cleveland with 3 wins.

I think you’ve hit on something. Gutekunst has done a reasonable job acquiring players that are fairly talented. Unfortunately they are also dumb as a brick. There’s no other excuse for them making stupid mistakes on every play, sometimes the same mistake over and over again.

I’m now sorta feeling sorry for the coaches as they don’t have much to work with. Maybe there’s a reason the other teams let these free agents go.

Look at the Broncos and how in three years finally got Sean Peyton and see how they improved; Rams just fired their special teams coach after the Seattle game and the Packers continue to keep MLF after not taking points and going for it on a fourth and 1 in the first quarter like he's done before. He should be held accountable. Packers need to move on with a different coach. And no I and others here are not being negative; we just call it like it is.

Well I could post a positive post, a "Homer" post if you will about what a great game the Packers played WITHOUT Kraft, Love, Jacobs (He shouldn't have been playing) Parsons, and Tom, just to name a few but I just can't do it this morning. Last night's game was brutal but as a Packers fan, we've had a LOT of practice handling brutal games like this. Especially under Matt LaFleur.

Personally I think Bisaccia should have been gone quite a while ago. The Packers ST units are always some of the lowest ranked unit's in the NFL. It just continues to get worse, at least IMO, yet NO ONE is ever held accountable;. If I performed my duties at work like Bisaccia performed his in Green Bay, I'd have been fired. I mean where else can you be one of the WORST in the NFL and still get a promotion to Assistant HC after one season?

As good as Matt LaFleur has been in certain aspects of his job, he's been equally bad or even worse at others. I've never thought much of his assistant coaching hires and have more than once called his hires "The who's who of who the hell are you"? At SOME POINT Matt LaFleur needs to be held accountable.

Slam Doubs all you want. He owned it. To call him a coward though is cheap. He mis judged the ball. End of story. The pack would not have been in a position to win without his contributions throughout beforehand. He scored our only touchdown and made several other key plays.
What about the oline? Facemask? Fumbled snap? Blown coverage on the bears first touchdown? Going for it on 4th down instead of taking 3?
If the result on ANY of those is different, GB wins.
What gets me most of all is the repeated loafing by Rashan Gary. That's an Every game thing.
Bottom line is that was a TOTAL team failure of epic proportions.
Gutey and MLF - Gutey provides the players and the staff coaches them up. Would this team look different if Burns, Simmons, or Lawrence were drafted instead of Gary? JSN instead of LVN? Hell yes.
Again, systemic failure coupled with lack of execution.
Packers still control their own destiny as far as making the playoffs. Let's see if as a team they have the heart to do so.

Disappointed, for sure. Nothing like the devastation of 2014 or 4th and 26 but damn. We had the game won. Doubs took his eyes off the ball. Nixon blew some assignments. We took 3s when we should have gotten 7s. Malik played very well coming in cold. The D showed up without their star player. Caleb made good throws when they needed them.

It's a game the Packers should have won. Get ready for the Ravens because this season is not over.

wasn't this being touted as a break out game for LVN and some other guy, Cox maybe, I don't remember much of a break out...I watched LVN do his same thing of a bull rush a few times that was about it...of course next year it will be LVN's breakout year....amazing what anyone saw to draft this dude that high up in the first round but then again I aint no expert....

It might be too small a sample size, but I sure do have more confidence in watching Willis than Love. Willis looks like a small Lamar Jackson, running around until he finds a hole, then bursts through like a lightning bolt. He makes it easier on the O-line and the receivers by buying time, and he makes it more challenging on the D because they have to be aware of his ability to run constantly.

But it's not just the running; he throws a really nice ball, a tight spiral, and seems to be making his reads really well. Maybe Lamar Jackson isn't the comp, maybe Steve Young. Of course, this is a giant leap, comparing him to a Hall of Fame QB, but I'm just reacting to his style of play. He has looked good every single time he's been out there.

It would really hurt if he is lost next year and turns out to be a better player than Love, but on another team.

I have been thinking the same thing...Willis is making solid decisions with the chances he gets to run the Offense.
I have been thinking of this loss and the absolute cascade of self inflicted mistakes leading to all the losses this and every season and it come down to this one thing....GB does have a competitive NFL team, but Gute misses on a lot of top picks and we do not have the $ to cover the holes up. If the better players play well and not to many are hurt we can slug with most teams, but when the holes get too big things really get out of hand. We lack a bunch of basic team positions and it is really hard to cover with no starting level CB's and now no starting level DE's as well as no starting DL....no true WR1 or 2 and we lost our TE1 to injury.....this team needs a lot of upgrades and the OL has 1 starting level OT on any team and mostly backups starting. Gute has been letting contracts expire and moving most of the money to the defense while drafting most of the OL and this scheme is not working because of a lot of misses and people on 2nd contracts that did not do enough to get it. We are good at Safety / Linebacker / QB and Backup QB / RB / WR for sheer quantity we can rotate in when injured...but no top level WR's 1-2 level. OL is average overall. We do not have enough top tier players to mask or overcome gaffs that happen on a consistent enough basis to beat good teams.

Why is the guy in the mushroom helmet who is obviously trying to avoid a career ending concussion fielding kicks anyway? I assume that’s Bisaccia’s call and that one of the reasons he should be fired.

Once again the Packers managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They overcame a ton of adversity and played a great game until the muffed onsidekickoff. The defense deserved a better fate than they ultimately received.
Beginning with the onside kick the Packers committed a comedy of errors and gave the game away.

The Packers just don’t play good situational football during the MLF era. They can still make the playoffs but they will be on the road with a weakened roster. First they need to win their next 2 games. GPG! Thanks, Since ‘61
