Here's to hoping Cobb has something left in the tank. There are too few roster spots to retain a player for their character and mentorship.

While I'm not crazy about the move (and would love to be driven wrong) I'm thankful THIS is the drum AR decided to bang instead of insisting they bring back Kumerow.

Adams, Cobb, Rodgers , lazard , Funchess/ MVS

LOVE Randall Cobb to death. Did we NEED him? No not really. However it does leave Amari free to do the gadget backfield stuff/return kicks while Cobb plays the slot, and vice versa. And Cobb will miss his time anyhow as he normally does, and Amari will get his snaps in the slot still.

Rodgers is right about alot of the names he mentioned. We let Randall Cobb go when we had absolutely NOTHING outside of Davante at receiver in 2019. We picked Jimmy Graham over Jordy (that ones ALWAYS gonna hurt). Jordy was declining but you are INSANE if you think he wouldnt have contributed more than Graham. Losing Jared Cook (coming off probably the greatest catch in Packers postseason history) to sign that POS Martellus Bennett. Charles Woodson should have retired as a Packer, he was still a Pro Bowl player in Oakland and deserved much better from us. And if its true Peppers would have played for very little money - then that was a mistake as well, even a 1 year deal the guy had 11 sacks that first year with the Panthers. Micah Hyde was a STAR for us on defense in the 2nd half/postseason during his final season. He was our best defender that season and he went on to be a Pro Bowler in Buffalo(although i understand he got a big deal from Buffalo). Casey Hayward had his ups and downs for sure but was NEVER not a quality corner, also went on to be a Pro Bowler after he left. Hell even Bashaud Breeland who signed for nothing with the Chiefs should have been back after how he played in 2018.

It is what it is now, I just think Rodgers made valid points - and im not mad at him for it. If the entire offseason you only listened to what James Jones and Aj Hawk had to say about the situation instead of these shills who get paid to lie - none of the things Rodgers said would have been a surprise. Jones and Hawk told us all along what the issues were and how they would end. And here we are. Lets enjoy whats left of this thing.

I disagree, Lazard and MVS are not locks. As much as I harp on Lazard and Mvs not being good I don’t dislike them. Mvs as a 4 that can take the top off a defense is great, Lazard as a 4-5 that can do everything a little is also great. They just aren’t 2-3 material or will be in my opinion. So with that said…Rodgers saying he needs Cobb tells me he feels the same way.

IMO the Pack will only keep 5 WRs on the 53. Given the run pass balance and increasing 12 and 22 personnel groups to foster the "illusion of complexity" need to have more players at OL, RB and TE.

Cobb makes it an easy odds situation that Funchess, ESB will be playing for another team this year. Hopefully a few of the talented young guys make it to the PS.

Regarding Cobb in the backfield...he has been mostly a dud there. He's good in the slot, not so much wideout. He's much better finding holes and seams from the slot.

I love Randall. But taking snaps from Amari could reduce production for the O. If the coaches and players believe Amari is the better than Cobb and do not play him because #12 demands it...yikes. If Cobb is clearly better than Amari after TC...OK.

I have not seen Matt play the favorites game yet. He is so driven to win with the best 11 on the field every play. His OL is emblematic of this principle.

Yes Cobb will bring some value to the Packers with his experience and mentorship but at what cost - particularly opportunity cost (is the forgone benefit that would have been derived by an option not chosen)? For instance what if his 5+million/yr. salary from the Packers was allocated to a position that is begging for an upgrade - the defensive line? Or with his inclusion to the final 53 - the Packers risk losing a good young prospect like Winfree (for an older, slower and fragile player). In fact, the team might as well pencil Cobb right now on the IR because he's never played a full season since 2015. So looking at it in strictly investment terms - I would rate the projected r.o.i. for Cobb as "poor."

I love the Cobb addition. Finally someone that can play the slot. People say st Brown doesn't have a shot. But St.Brown worked with Love in the off season. His injury is in the past. And he can line up on either side. He will play on special teams. If he continues to catch the ball. They'll keep 6 wrs.

Wouldn't be surprised to keep 6-7 WR and then cut Cobb after one year or any injury and put him on IR! Way to keep young WR for following service/years!

I read a good bit around the web and most reporters said Cobb has lost a step from his days in Green Bay.

He was/is one of my favorite players, a person with a lot of guts and great hands.

Major Whiplash here. 1. If your a receiver on the team you should be pissed because his arrival means you may be gone, thank you A Rodgers.
2. His arrival means he wants a short game to prevent defensemen from driving him into the ground. Adams and Cobb, short routes, all the others are just going to be running around with their heads cut off. Too bad our coach isnt in charge. But there concerned if they screw with him they may not get to the super bowl.
3. We have at least two or three receivers who we could lose, they've done zip for three years, should cut our loses.

I don't see Amari Rodgers sitting behind Cobb. I think Cobb will be used more to spell Amari. Cobb has shown the past few years that he can't hold up as a starter. Plus Rodgers is too talented to take him off the field and it sounds like MLF already has him plugged into the roll that Tyler Ervin once filled. I loved Cobb when he was at his prime, and it was refreshing to hear his press conference, but this is Cobb 2021, not Cobb 2014 that is suiting up. I see him more as a coach/mentor and backup to Amari.

These actions sing Super Bowl or Bust to me. We got our conductor behind center and now have his favorite on/off the field buddy signed and certain for at least one year. We are essentially one season away from salary cap hell, so in my mind, this is the year that everyone from the Green Bay Packers management team is committing everything to get to the Big Dance, the Super Bowl 56 with the Packers winning their 14th World Championship.

The reason Cobb is back is because QB Rodgers values football knowledge. I don't think there is any doubt who the more talented WR is at this point. Amari Rodgers is most likely physically more talented than Cobb at this point. Maybe at any point. BUT QB Rodgers is not a fan of facing live bullets with WR's who are not on the same page. Cobb will start, injuries and Amari Rodgers ability to progress in the play book will determine who ends the season as the slot receiver.

It's obvious to everyone that Adams, Cobb, Lazard, MVS, and Rodgers are WR locks. At the moment I see Funchess, ESB, and Winfree fighting for a possible 6th spot. But the more likely scenario is that the Packers would prefer to stash all three, and maybe several other receivers, on the Practice Squad. So the preseason will determine who the Packers think they can sneak through waivers, and that will end up being the deciding factor. The good news is that even if one or two of them get claimed off waivers, there will be enough others who make it through. The combination of the top five locks and a well-stocked PS will leave the Packers in a pretty comfortable position for wide receivers. Not to mention all the tight ends, and the good pass-catching running backs.

Randall Cobb is a class act.. I hope that whatever transpires .. that this was a good move tor the packers as well as Randall...GPG!!!

I think that if used properly Cobb will do just fine. Don't use him as an every down WR and rotate with Amari and maybe another. Plus Le fleur likes to use multiple TE's as well which will limit the Slot WR from being on the field at times along with a decent running game, (something the Packers really didn't have when Cobb was there before) . This gives Cobb the best chance to stay healthy for a full season and even though not on the field as much, when he is in, his legs will be fresh and along with Adams will have the best chemistry with the QB.
