In Praise Of Al Harris

Re-watching the Saints game late last night (yes, I'm a sucker for punishment) I was shocked at how well Al Harris played. This was a game I thought for sure we would see Sean Payton and Drew Brees expose Harris' lack of speed. But Brees wanted nothing to do with throwing at Harris, and you could see why. The guy was all over and never gave up. He was still playing his ass off long after the game was decided. And you simply can not say enough about his effort on the 70 yard Lance Moore TD.

Between coming back after the lacerated spleen and the unbeliavable job he's done in coverage since he's been back, I do believe I owe Mr. Harris an apology. He is simply a warrior.

i too am guilty. i'm not going to search through all the old entries for my exact comments, but i lamented that harris was probably done - that he was too proud to come back and take a nickelback job, and that it was a shame.

i realize i don't actually get to watch every game, but in at least the first game or two he had back - i kept thinking "is harris back?"

for a corner, there is no greater honor than never being seen by the television audience. it means his receiver is being totally ignored. even interceptions mean your guy was thrown to. and that chase-down was reminiscent of a few surprise kgb chasedowns from over the years.

so yes, perhaps too proud to take a nickel job, but at this point - too proud to do anything but proves us all wrong with extraordinary effort and focus. right on al.
