Jace Sternberger Suspended Two Games for Substance Abuse Violation
The former third round pick can work out with the team during training camp and play in preseason games.
By PackerAaron
Packers TE Jace Sternberger has been suspended without pay for the first two games of the 2021 reagular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, the league announced today.
Sternberger is allowed to work out with the team during training camp and play in preseason games, then he will miss the Packers trip to New Orleans and the home opener against Detroit before being able to play in the Week 3 game against the 49ers.
A third-round pick in 2019, the 24-year-old caught 12 passes for 114 yards and one touchdown in 12 games last season. He missed the final four games of the regular season with a concussion and wasn't activated for the Packers' two playoff games.

This pretty much seals Jace's fate with the Packers. Hope he's able to get his life in order.

His confession would be noteworthy if it was accompanied by a similar response from 50% of the Pack Fans leaving Lambeau on Game Day. Not a big fan of the moralizing and stone casting.

Just get rid of this clown already. Knew this was his make of break season and he pulls this? And the NFL doesn’t even test for weed anymore so what was he even doing?! It’s substance abuse not performance enhancing...

If it was performance enhancing, he should get a refund

While the suspension is not necessarily the death knell to his career - his performance(s) still continues to trend in the wrong direction. Sternberger missing the 2 games isn't that important to the Packers, due to the TEs that are currently ranked above him. However, afterwards, if he does not show something on the field - it is likely that he will be shown the off-field door.

I hope Dominique Dafney takes that roster spot and never gives it back.

Glad he owned up to his mistake. Depression is a serious illness. Hope he can get his life in order.

The anti-depressant may have been prescribed for a neural issue, maybe something to do with his successive concussions, yet the Jaybirds start the conspiracy speculating and moralizing like franklin graham.

I never could see what everybody saw in this guy. I feel bad for him but I think he needs to find a new career that doesn’t involve
taking head shots.

Oh FFS y'all, the ghosts of Hornung and McGee just visited me and said Favre told them to give the kid some space.

OK. this kid just did not even 1/100th of what Favre did and people here are ready to run him out on a rail? Prozac and scotch v. Vicodin, back-rooms in Appleton bars, and God-only-knows what else? Really? Come on people. Hell Chewy raped a drunk teenager and last I knew he had a radio show in Milwaukee. And please don't weigh his sins against his play on the field. If you are condemning him for off-field conduct then compare them apples to all of the other apples. Leave the oranges out of it.

I suppose it’s fair to complain about his performance. To be an NFL TE is beyond difficult and it’s a high standard. But to knock him for drinking while on depressants is not. Sure it’s beyond stupid to get behind the wheel and he will pay the price for that. Yet the fact that needed antidepressants in the first place is sad. How many posters here brag about their drinking and how many of you drive or engage in activities that are dangerous after drinking? And how many of us struggle with personal and emotional issues? Grow up.

Sternberger hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire. He has been given a great opportunity here and yet here we are with him getting suspended. He needs to get his shit together. Nicely worded apologies only go so far for someone who has shown so little. This guy better start proving something or my guess is the Packers are going to move on. This is the pros and no one is going to nor should they babysit an underperforming 3rd year player.Time to grow up.

like the old saying" I discovered the enemy, and it was me". Why did they draft a guy with serious concussions at Wisc. You made your own crap bed not doing homework on this guy and two years later nothing to show. Blame yourself not him.
