Jerry Jones Taking a Big Risk with His Comments About Micah Parsons

There are so many storylines as the Green Bay Packers head to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in Week 4. The Packers need to bounce back after a poor showing in Cleveland. The Packers will be facing long-time defensive tackle Kenny Clark for the first time after he spent nine productive seasons with the Packers. But the biggest storyline surrounds Micah Parsons and his first game back in Dallas since he was traded to the Packers last month. And Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems to be taking a big risk with his recent comments about Parsons that may backfire for him and his team.

Parsons spent four seasons with the Cowboys and quickly established himself as one of the premier pass rushers in the game. He earned Pro Bowl honors and recorded at least 12 sacks in each of his four campaigns with the Cowboys. Twice, he was also named All Pro.

Parsons and the Cowboys sought to negotiate a new contract over the offseason, but it ended in a standoff. The Penn State product sat out training camp and the preseason as a result. Eventually, the star edge rusher demanded out of Dallas. The trade finally happened during the week between the end of the preseason and the start of games that count. The Cowboys received two first-round picks and Clark in return for Parsons.

Jones has been on the offensive in the week leading up to Sunday night’s game against the Packers. He indicated there would be no tribute video for Parsons prior to the game.

Thus far, Parsons has taken the high road. He mentioned that he expected a warm welcome from the fans in Dallas prior to the game. He also discussed the warm feelings he still has for his former teammates and how he didn’t hold a grudge against the Cowboys.

“There’s a lot of things I can consider disrespectful throughout this process, but I wouldn’t say the [lack of a video] tribute is one of them,” Parsons told reporters. “I would say, I just think there’s hard feelings maybe there for them, but for me, I’m happy where I’m at and we got a really good football team, so I guess I can [receive] my tribute in a win, I hope.”

But Jones took a different approach. The Cowboys’ owner and GM made a radio appearance on a local station on Friday and took a not so disguised dig at his former employee.

“While he does make great plays, there is also a way to approach playing against Micah,” Jones said. “As we know, we didn’t exactly win the Super Bowl those years.”

It’s doubtful Jones has some secret approach to slowing down Parsons. Much greater football minds than his have tried and failed and the owner may just be trying to get inside Parsons’ head.

Of course, to criticize Parsons for the Cowboys failure to win a Super Bowl over the last four seasons is absurd, especially considering Jones is not just the owner of the team, he also serves as their general manager. It was his job to surround Parsons with enough talent to win a Super Bowl. The Cowboys haven’t come close to that goal in three decades.

If anything, comments like this will only serve as additional motivation for Parsons who was already excited about facing his former team this weekend. If Jones is going to make it personal, Parsons will only have more incentive to have a big game on Sunday in Big D. Jones can take his shots at Parsons pre-game, but he does so at his own risk.

Driven by his arrogance, Jerra knows his impetuousness lost him Parsons and gave him to the Packers.

LOL...Jerry just can't help himself. As a Packers fan I just hope Jerry stays healthy and continues in the same role he is now for at least 10 more years. He'll keep running his mouth the whole time.

Didn't he also say something about know how to slow Micah down after practicing against him for the last several years.

KEEP talking Jerry...Keep talking!

"Jerry Jones Taking a Big Risk with His Comments About Micah Parsons"

DISAGREE! Jones is taking no risk with his comments. Parsons and the rest of the team will tear the Cowboys apart tomorrow whether Jones said nothing or shoots off his mouth as he tends to do. Jones will have to sit in his luxurious box and watch his team flame out.

"Jones will have to sit in his luxurious box and watch his team flame out."

Hopefully we get to see that same stupid look on his face many times. Just like the 2023 Wildcard game against the Packers. I thought Jerry looked like he wanted to kill himself when it was 48-14.

If Parsons needs more motivation than he already has then he’s not the person he seems. Jerry just runs the risk of looking even more foolish, but his team’s fans seem to already be at the point where that is almost impossible to achieve. Jerry is turning in to a caricature of himself.

Listening to Jerry Jones is like watching the Late Night TV hosts... I just don't, as it's blabbering BS.

Do us a favor and take your foot off the virtue signaling, Taryn. Besides, everyone knows you go to bed shortly after watching Wheel of Fortune.

Because he owns the Dallas Cowboys and he just disrespected a former player who's about to play against his team? A team that hasn't been relevant in 30 years?

Looking forward to the game, but not so much the broadcast. It's going to be such a circus with the crew and sideline reporter harping on the same familiar themes over and over...might be a good time for the mute button.

Some sports fans almost wear it as a badge of honor to support their teams even through inept management and little hope on the horizon. We'll get to see over 90,000 such people tomorrow night. It's up to the Packers to prove them to be the chumps that they are.

Also curious to see how bad Mazi Smith actually is--that is if he's not the usual scratch or limited participation.

Considering how well the Packers travel, I highly doubt there will be anywhere near 90,000 Cowboy fans in attendance.

JJ is more interested in creating controversy and trying to keep the Cowboys relevant rather than actually building a team. To divert people from how poorly the team is performing this year, he'd rather create a smokescreen of snark and bragging. Or, possibly, he even believes his own nonsense. Because if he would ask the head coach and OC if they can contain Parsons, what are they supposed to say? Because the wrong answer would see them on the unemployment line sooner than later.

I'm not that interested in what a middling team and a manipulative owner have to say or do. I may not even watch. The Packers need to focus on real teams moving forward.

Oooo, good! Please let us know if we should join your boycott in solidarity as we wait for the "real teams" to show up.

Poor Jerry, head like a hole and so so mad he can't own everything. I think he's really mostly pissed because he couldn't say the Cowboys will go undefeated this season.
