Jordan Davis NFL Draft Prospect Profile and Scouting Report

NFL Draft Profile: Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia

Name: Jordan Davis

School: The University of Georgia

Year: Sr

Position: Defensive Tackle

Measurables: 6’6 341 Ibs. 34” arms, 10.75” hands

Stats:

General Info:

Originally I basketball star at Hopewell High School, Jordan Davis transferred as a junior to Mallard Creek High School. Here, Davis would begin a dominating career in football as a defensive tackle. He was only a 3-star recruit, but scouts saw more in him than the ranks did. Even though he received offers from Florida, Clemson, Miami, and North Carolina, he committed to play for Georgia.

Throughout his four years at Georgia, Davis was the star among a defense already filled with stars. He started a decent amount of games as a freshman and played well enough to make the SEC-All Freshman team and won the award Freshman All-American. Davis’ production was never anything marvelous, but people noticed his level of play. Along with some other accomplishments, he won Second Team All-SEC in 2020, First Team All-SEC in 2021, and Unanimous All-American in 2021.

Positional Skills:

Strengths

Jordan Davis makes professional athletes look like normal people. He is that crazy athletic. A 6’6 340 Ib man should not be able to move as fast and as swiftly as he does. His flexibility isn’t perfect, but it doesn’t need to be either. The combination of strength and speed allows him to bully his way through a blocker and has little need to go around them. It cannot be understated how special Davis is. Relatively, using RAS (Relative Athletic Score), he is the most athletic defensive tackle ever tested at the NFL combine.

Davis’ athleticism most directly affects the running game. Any running back, albeit maybe Derrick Henry, should fear this man when he gets into the league. He can eat up multiple blockers and still punish the ball carrier with ease. His size would suggest that he could only play a nose tackle run-stuffing role, but he could also chase an outside run down. Oftentimes, it looks as though he is blocking a man and as soon as the ball carrier gets close he tosses the offensive lineman.

Weaknesses

Unfortunately, dominating the passing game requires a bit more technique than just pure power and speed. Davis’ hands are underdeveloped for a senior. Scouts wouldn’t expect a 340 Ib defensive tackle to be much help in the pass rush, but he should be farther than he is considering the athleticism he harnesses. His ceiling is way higher than his feet and hands prove in games. This potential could be seen as a positive, but as a senior, he should be more developed.

Since Davis played all 4 years he should have plenty of college experience. However, he only really played near half the snaps on defense. As a defensive tackle that isn’t completely strange, but it could mean a low motor or the coaches only saw his value on obvious running snaps. This isn’t a knock on Davis’ game, but when a player is so good at the game of football, you have to find concerns somewhere.

Fit with the Packers:

After the historical combine that Jordan Davis had, it would be a miracle for him to drop anywhere near the 22nd selection where the Packers’ first pick is. The only way a team would pass up on him would be positional importance. A run-stuffing defensive tackle just isn’t viewed as highly as other positions such as quarterback, cornerback, and offensive tackle. However, the Packers are the most stingy when it comes to drafting vital positions. Therefore, the likelihood of Davis becoming a Green Bay Packer is slim to none.

In the fantasy that Davis becomes a Packer, their defense may become as dominant as Georgia’s defense was this past year. The only real weakness left is the run defense which has haunted Green Bay for years. Davis would immediately fix that issue. Run defense might even become a strength. Even as a rookie, Davis would be that good.

I like this guy. Yes we need receivers but we have 4 picks in the first two rounds and if he is still available, maybe we will pick him. Of course it all depends on how the board looks. We all know that we need receivers but we do have a lot of early picks this year.

One trick pony. Doesn't fit the 3-4-4.

SMH

You think a 6'6" 340 lb NT who runs a 4.78 doesn't fit in the 3 - 4?

He makes Raji look like a child.

He would instantly be the best run stopper we've had in decades.

He would immediately command double teams which would free up KC to reek havoc.

As soon as he gets some NFL coaching I would expect him to even push the pocket on passing downs.

I really can't tell if you believe half the stuff you spout or if you're trolling. I suspect it's a bit of both.

Can't wait to see where he goes though.

Who is better? Clark is! ---- Raji regressed after they moved him over for Pickett. I would Love to bet you Davis will never become an All-pro.

Could be. I was wrong with Adams. But until he uses that speed to rush the QB. He won't be an All -pro.

Some have him in the top ten after he got on a diet. He's a 0 to 1 tech, not as variable as Wyatt who has better lateral movement.

Packers use many different defensive variations depending on team, down, and distance. Another run stuffer is a welcome addition for us.

Dear Andrew,
“Miracle,” is the perfect term regarding any possibility of Jordan Davis dropping to the Packers at #22 in April’s 2022 NFL Draft. Trust me, it will never happen.

Sincerely,

Christian Fantasy Barmore, March 25, 2021

Just between you and me, I wouldn't pass on Jordan Davis. Reminds me of Calais Campbell coming out. (I really wanted to draft Calais in 2008...) Granted, I could be wrong, but I think he'll be an absolute beast.

Well, Calais is still on the street. Ted missed his chance to secure him when he came off his first contract. The guy is
just a beast and a solid pro.

They bagged Stokes, no complaints. How much draft capital would they need to burn to move Up for him? I agree he was the best D line prospect, but again the snowball affect of the King pick. He didn't excel and the brain trust had to fill the CB opposite Jaire.

I haven't seen anything to convince me this guy is anything other than a 2 down defensive tackle.............and that is unlikely to be the best 'bang-for-your-buck' at pick 22. You can get decent 2 down guys later in the draft.

His elite size will mean less in the NFL than it did in college, where he faces veterans with both size and good technique. I'd much rather see a (relatively) smaller guy who has some penetration. Wyatt, Mathis, Winfree, Leal , all should have better pass rush than Davis and at a lesser pick cost.

A lesser Davis imo, a 2 down guy with not much pass rush.

This is simply not a deep class, again, in back to back drafts. My hat is off to Brian Gutekunst signing Jarran Reed, and for popping on TJ Slaton in R5 last year, who was likely the most Pro ready of all save for Barmore last year at IDL.

Despite that, maybe they pop for Wyatt a little earlier than he’s projected to secure him to GB. I’m all-in on that.

If Davis is a player they like better, and their staff feels he’s got what they like with the ability to mold him into a supreme talent, I am all-in on that too. Wouldn’t surprise me if that were the case, given Slaton’s tangible offering of explosiveness off the ball for a man that size. Slaton really was a steal in R5 last year. As Ted Thompson used to say, “there are not many of those guys around.”

Then Thompson drops Kenny Clark in our laps as his Swan Song…

Haven’t had a chance to dig in too much on what is available later at IDL, but bolstering the position further for the future would be smart if the right guy is there. Where? R1, R2, R3 or thereafter, I don’t care. As long as they get a good player they like to develop into a great player, I’ll trust them there.

Again, not a deep class. Maybe they don’t add one, given the Reed signing.
