Jordy Nelson was one of a kind

Jordy Nelson, one of the greatest Packers of all time announced his retirement Tuesday. Here's a look back at his storied career.

When a guy like Jordy Nelson announces his retirement, it causes everything else to stop for a second.

I had another idea in mind today for this spot, but with the news about Nelson deciding to retire from the National Football League, other topics can wait.

That's because Nelson, who will go into the Green Bay Packers Hall-of-Fame sooner rather than later, was a one-of-a-kind player and one of my all-time favorite Green Bay Packers.

In terms of goodbyes, this offseason hasn't been easy.

Green Bay already said goodbye to Clay Matthews, a key player on the team for a decade, who was also a huge part of the 2010 championship team.

Now, only Aaron Rodgers, Mason Crosby and Bryan Bulaga remain.

Nelson was on that team too and in fact, that playoff run was when he finally broke out.

He caught eight passes for 79 yards and a touchdown in the divisional win at Atlanta and then in the Super Bowl, he hauled in nine receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown in one of the most underrated performances in Super Bowl history.

Aaron Rodgers was great that day and so were a lot of other guys, but make no mistake, the Packers don't win that Super Bowl without Nelson.

After that, Nelson put up more than 1,200 yards receiving in four of his next five years and three times had 13 touchdown receptions or more.

When it comes to the Green Bay record books, Nelson is near the top in every major receiving category. He is third in Franchise history in receptions (550), fifth in yards (7,848) and second in touchdowns (69).

Of all the wide receivers that Aaron Rodgers has played with since becoming the starter, Nelson has been the best. His penchant for big plays and sideline catches was incredible, yet his work ethic and demeanor endeared him to fans even more.

When it comes to professional football and professional sports in general, Jordy Nelson was one of the good guys. He was also one of the greatest players in the history of the Green Bay Packers.

As I said, he was one of a kind.

I was sitting 10 rows back from the endzone at the Seahawks/Packers game in 2017, when he caught that perfect TD pass from Rodgers.

I remember some tape clips of him when we drafted him. I saw a lot of potential as a special teams guy. He was waaay better than that! Good Luck to one of the nicest men on this team...ever.

Nelson was an ASTOUNDING WR.

One of my favorite things to see (and it usually happened at least once or twice per season) was a play action bootleg, Rodgers rears back and chucks it to a streaking Nelson as he broke away from the DB on a post route. Just a thing of beauty.

Packer Nation loves ya, Jordy!

Dude played wr with broken ribs. He’s a badass. True role model off the field also. Easily my favorite GBP.

I CAN'T believe someone would downvote this comment. It was probably made from some Bears fans who's ass Jody kicked time and again or one of those fans from that team who wears that putrid purple color...PURPLE? ...HAHAHA. Or maybe a Lions fans because they have the distinction of being one of those 4 teams to never even make a SB.

Make now mistake...Jordy WAS a bad ass and a true role model on AND off the team. The Packers were a better team, Green Bay a better place when Jordy was in Green Bay. Good luck to Mr. Jordy Nelson in his next phase of life. Hopefully after a year or two it's coaching Packers receivers to be a Pro like him.

Great Packer, one of my all time favorites. Maybe he didn’t get a lot of recognition for his Super Bowl performance cause he dropped three passes. Been a Packer fan since early 60s and Jordy and Donald Driver are my favorite receivers of the last 30 years

Its a good thing Packers won that superbowl or else Jordy would have been demonized. He dropped 3 easy catches that kept Pittsburgh in the game. Rodgers was on fire that game!

2 more years with a healthy AR and Jordy would be a HOF lock. Plus he missed a whole season with the freak ACL injury. We all saw what he meant to the team that year. You never how things will play out, remember when we resigned James Jones?

A all-time favorite! Great great person and on the field player and teammate. Packer Hall 0f Fame player!

Great memories much like with Matthews and Cobb. It was time to move on from these great players for the Pack. Matthews and Jordy will be in the Packer Hall of Fame. Wondering whether Cobb will get there? Thoughts?

I would love it if Jordy came back to the Green Bay Packers! Just bring him in on the coaching staff for receivers.

Number 87 was worn by someone who’s already in Canton - Willie Davis. He was pretty good. :)

Jordy was also a great one. It’s a damned shame that all this cap crap forces teams and players to move on after stellar careers with one team.

Thank you Jordy for the memories. You proved that a hard working Kansas farm boy could take that work ethic and become a great NFL receiver. You were always a class act on and off the field. You were raised right and continue to live your life that way. You didn't let success change you. Good luck as you transition into a life without football. God Bless!

I would definitely say Jordy Nelson should be in Canton, Ohio. HOF.
