Mason Crosby activated off physically unable to perform list
The veteran will become the longest-tenured non-QB in Packers history.

The writing seemed to be on the wall with the release of Ramiz Ahmed, but now the Packers have made the move.
I'm told the Packers are activating kicker Mason Crosby off the PUP list. He has missed all of camp after offseason knee surgery, but he will kick in his 242nd consecutive regular-season game (never missed one) against the Vikings on Sept. 11.

THought it was beyond time we let him go. We got a young kicker let him kick.

Crosby is a free agent next year, and my guess would be that after this season he’ll likely retire. Ahmed can stay on the PS this season, and then he can become our main guy.

Yes! That’s good to see! Hopefully he wasn’t rushed though.

What would any of you think about potentially signing Alex Leatherwood? He’s been released by the Raiders.

We should wait and see. I can predict that if his leg would show further degradation regarding strength, Mason Crosby, as high quality person will discuss the retirement with team. I have no doubt in that.
Also, we was not aware of his problem with knee in his kicking leg, so maybe he can regain his strength and be reliable as he always be. We do not know what is going on behind closed doors.
I have trust in both organization and Mason that they will do the best for Packers.

I don't know that Crosby will be ready for the MN game. Maybe he'll be ready in time to kick in his 242nd consecutive game, but the jury is out. I am a little surprised that Matt Schneidman wrote that.

I hope he wasn’t rushed off of PUP; I would have been fine rolling with Ahmed.

Gute and Crosby both quoted as saying he'll be kicking week 1 (6:00 PM EDT). good, hope he's 100%.
Ahmed looked good in pre-season with long kick-offs and hitting this FGs. Time will tell, of course, but we can be hopeful. Crosby had his ups and downs but held up very well. Ahmed will be on PS, Gute said, and this is promising for next year.

I hope this was the right call but I would imagine Crosby is smart enough to know when it’s time to walk away .

Crosby was horrible in 2012, even WORSE than last year, and bounced back with one of his best seasons ever. YES, I understand he was only 28 years old, not 37. I completely understand people's uneasiness when it comes to Crosby, hell I can include myself in that group. But if I need a 55 yard FG with 2 seconds left to win the game, I'll go with Crosby over Ahmed all day long.
Even if Crosby struggles, I'm not so sure Ahmed was the answer anyways. I'll be curious to see if the Packers add Ahmed to the PS. If they don't he was nothing more than a camp body, someone to do the kicking duties while Crosby was out.

I read of lots of kickers joining and leaving teams. The coaches see them and base judgments on their ability and consistency and even cost. Most of them are pretty good. If you lose or don’t like one there is always another that can step in. I think that there is a sense of loyalty to Mason that is part of the decision to keep him over an up and coming player.
