Mike McCarthy on Eddie Lacy's Health: I Know He's Getting Better

The Packers running back has been listed as "probable" for Sunday's game against the Bills.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Friday for the final time in advance of Sunday's match-up with the Buffalo Bills.

The following are select comments from McCarthy's press conference:

  • On Eddie Lacy's status for Sunday: I think probable is pretty confident. I know he's getting better. He did the strength and conditioning work.
  • On Lacy and practice on Saturday: Hopefully he can practice tomorrow.
  • On Lacy sharting time with James Starks: I'm not going to talk about how much I'm going to play anybody. … It's something we've spent the whole offseason getting ready for. … We'll just keep playing with Eddie and James.
  • On Davon House being ruled out for Sunday: I know he had some testing today. He's not going to be available for the game. I have not been given any updates.
  • On if he fears House's injury is serious: I wouldn't say fear, that's why he's going to see the people he needs to see. … His range of motion, he's responded very well the last couple days.
  • On Mason Crosby and his 53-yard field goal on Monday: I think Mason's like the rest of our veteran players. You have a relationship, you get to see these men work every day. … He's delivered. That wasn't a decision based on whether I thought he'd make the kick. … I think I've always shown confidence in Mason.
  • On James Starks returning home to Buffalo: There's no place like home. Obviously everybody enjoys going back to their hometown. … He'll go out and play like he always does. … I think you have to be in tune with each and every player, particularly where they are in their career. … I know he's excited.
  • On playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium: Anytime we're on the road, our communication challenges are night and day. … This is a loud place. Our team hasn't been there in eight years. … I'm confident that we'll communicate the way we need to.
  • On playing at home in the playoffs: We want to play at home for all the obvious reasons. We have a great home-field production. We have phenomenal fans. … It's definitely an environment we prefer to play in.
  • On Sam Shields: Sam's had a good week of practice. … When you don't get the reps, it's tough. I don't care what position you play. I think Sam's had a good week.

I would imagine that Lacy will be listed as the starter even if he doesn't see a snap. Letting buffalo think he might play means they have to plan for him.
