Mike McCarthy: We've Got a Number of Guys that Are Sick

Linebacker Sam Barrington and cornerback Demetri Goodson are sick, according to the Packers head coach.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy met with the media on Friday after returning to work following the New Year's holiday.

The following are select conference from his press conference:

  • On Aaron Rodgers' calf injury and status: Aaron's doing well. He's been in treatment during the practice period. He'll do the same tomorrow, and I really don't see him getting on hte practice field until Thursday at the earliest.
  • On Jordy Nelson missing practice: Jordy Nelson has a personal matter that he's taking care of, and he'll be back this weekend.
  • On the upcoming practice schedule: We'll have a normal practice week. We'll being the players in Monday for strength and conditioning. We'll start Monday with the game plan, and Tuesday will be their normal day off.
  • On whether the hydration tests went well: Yes. We've got a number of guys that are sick. Some things are going around.
  • On whether Sam Barrington and Demetri Goodson were sick: Correct, yes.
  • On Rodgers missing practice time: I'm not concerned. He's already started the preparation process. … He'll be prepared. The biggest thing will be for him to rep on the things he feels he needs to rep on.
  • On Letroy Guion: Letroy really coming in here in free agency, we looked for him to be a very positive addition to our football team. … I think he was everything we thought he was. … He was a good fit for everything we asked him to do. … He's an excellent teammate. He earned his keep early. … He's fun to be around. He's fun to coach. … Like those free agents.
  • On Packers being named to the All-Pro team: I think it's great. Jordy and Josh (Sitton) and Aaron and John Kuhn being selected All-Pro. … It represents the kind of football team we have.
  • On his appreciation for Rodgers: I don't have to go through what we went through last year to appreciate Aaron Rodgers. He's a Hall of Fame player. .. He's a great player.
  • On Friday's practice: I thought the practice, the outside work was great. … We were in shells today, and we'll go a little longer tomorrow. It will be a padded practice.

This might be different, but I think this team should get all the practice it can get. I'm starting to think about that Giants playoff game (where we clinched a week early and sat a few starters out). Rodgers and those WRs didn't quite click. I'd hate to see anything similar to that Bills game in the Playoffs (offensively). Especially since it's going to be in Lambeau. No telling how cold it's going to be...

That was the famous Matt Flynn game. They probably should have played the starting unit the first half of that game.
