NFL Decides Nothing will Change on Roughing the Passer Rule
The NFL’s new rule regarding roughing the passer has been met with extreme controversy and outrage from fans and players alike.
But it appears that the organization won’t have their minds changed by anybody. Today the NFL Executive VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent put out a statement that made it clear they aren’t changing the rule anytime soon.
This statement comes after a report from NFL.com’s Judy Battista who said multiple competition committee members were uncomfortable with the calls so far. Not to mention the backlash from multiple players including Aaron Rodgers, JJ Watt, Ben Roethlisberger, and many others.
What makes this more interesting is that Packers owner Mark Murphy, who is a member on the NFL’s competition committee, told Clay Matthews not to change anything and to keep playing the way he has been, per Ryan Wood.
Hopefully this will ensure more consistent and realistic officiating but expect a lot more complaints and criticism from players and fans for the rest of this season.

It'll change with less change in the leagues pockets. I'm not spending a few hundred bucks on a game decided by a bullshit rule.

This is less to do with a football rule and much more to do with what referees have been directed to emphasise. All it takes to right things, is to back off the emphasis on roughing the passer and just call it naturally.
Let the refs make their own choices without forcing them to make calls on someone elses agenda. The whole committee 'emphasis' thing is stupid, because it is too powerful. It should be suggestions only from the committee, and not backed by de-selection as a tool to force compliance.
Unfortunately it is the nature of committees to try and draw more power to themselves. This one needs to be made less powerful. Maybe the means to do that starts by letting players (perhaps even the players committee) in on the decision making. Currently, the rules committee needs a broader base. What it DOESN'T need is an "All us boys must stick together, right or wrong" attitude. Awful things start happening when you get into that habit.
All governments become more stable, the more 'legs' they stand on. In my country (England), they have political parties (Parliament) that can be voted in and out by the public, they have the House of Lords, where Bills are sent after going through Parliament, for a second opinion. There is the head of state (the Queen). There is the legal system. There are government employees that assist members of parliament, whichever political party is in power (Whitehall).
The US has it's own State checks and balances as well, that US readers will know better than I. This is what you want in the NFL, several bodies that balance each other out, each with their own views, which act as counterweights of power should any one body gets too far out of synch with all the others. Now that you can bet on results, this becomes even more important. Put too much power in one body, and it is only a matter of time before abuses occur.

I had hoped that the NFL would do the right thing but regrettably they have screwed the pooch yet again.
This season has been mostly about bad rouging the passer call and now it looks like that will be what the 2018 NFL season will be remembered for rather than the play on the field or even the eventual SB winner.
The NFL has gone from a 3 ring circus to a 5 ring circus. It's time to send in the clowns. Don't bother they're here. Thanks, Since '61

1. As a little boy, I cried when the Packers lost. This happened often in the 80s.
2. I screamed MANY F-Bombs at Randy Moss in the moon game. This was the last time I have said that word out loud.
3. I got kicked out of the house by my wife for screaming obscenities at the TV when Favre choked in the 07 NFC CG.
4. I threw my keys against the floor so hard after the Fail Mary that all my keys bent.
5. I collapsed on the ground after Bostic in 2014.
6. I cried tears of joy in 96 and 10. Especially 10. I was 29 years old in 2010.
I am a hardcore fan. And I'm finding myself less and less interested in the NFL, and even the Packers. My desire to spend money on anything NFL has waned since 2012 or so. More every year.
I don't know how much of this is just maturing as I age, have a job with lots of responsibility, a wife and a family, and how much is just waning interest in a sport full of BS and drama.
I am the stereotypical football nut. My lack of care (and unwillingness to spend money) should scare the shit out of the stupid owners and their clowning league office. The millions like me should make them desire accountability and clarity in the rules. But it doesn't, and I can't understand why.

The NFL is becoming more and more like Congress, not being able to admit their mistakes, and make the rest if the population live with the consequences.
