Leatherhead's Top 5 Takeaways.

1) It's freakin' hot in South Texas right now. I mean, I saw a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking. It's that hot. I'm in survival mode, sticking close to the pool and being sure to keep myself hydrated. I'm also thinking about the Packers. #1 takeaway is "This is a really strong group on both sides of the ball."

2) We're amazingly well-set at QB. How many teams start the reigning MVP and future HOFer. Lots of franchises are "hoping" their QB makes a jump up from last year, or stays injury free. We don't have to hope. And he's backed up by a former first round pick who has been developing for two years now. This is a uniquely strong setup at QB. I do not recall another team that was ever this well set at QB, When you add that to a backfield of Jones and Dillon, this is an offense that will move the ball, score points, and dominate the clock IF the blocking is there.

3) I'm still at Defcon 3 on the offensive line, but I'm thinking about going back down to Defcon 4. I think Bakhtiari/Nijman can handle LT. Myers looks like he's ready to play at Center, but I'm still concerned about his ability to play the entire season. However, I'm thinking Tom might be a source of relief there, so I feel a little better. Runyan is solid at LG. We still need to build right side, with Van Lanen, Newman, Rhyan.

4) The notion expressed in this podcast that the Packers might have trouble throwing the ball makes me laugh. I mean really, I started laughing and then I did some checking. Since 1992, the Packer Offense has finished in the bottom half of the league in scoring 3 times. Once was with the gum chewer, and the other two were Favre throwing a tantrum in 2005 and 2006. Rodgers has finished as low at 15, once, but has also been in the Top 10 scoring offenses TEN TIMES, including three overall #1s!!!! But I guess that's all because of the greatness of Davante Adams, even the 6-0 record without him..

Seriously, guys, we're going to roll on offense this year IF IF IF IF the blocking is there.
,
5) For the first time in over 25 years, I can look at the defense and believe we'll have 11 real good players on the field, even with some injuries. I'm assuming we'll play a 2-4-5 quite a bit of the time, and that'll probably end up being Clark and Wyatt , with Lowry and Reed keeping them fresh. Our two edge guys will be Gary and Smith. We'll have Walker and Campbell inside. That's our front 6. Garvin, Engabare, Barnes, and Slaton will be gameday actives and play in spots. The backend with Amos, Savage, Alexander, Stokes, and Douglas is as good as I recall the Packers having since the merger.

I talk about the magic # of 24, but when we hold teams under 24 we win just about all the time, and this defense can definitely hold teams under 24.

If you look at the Pack-A-Day podcast, you see the name and picture of Andy Herman above the Podcast and a mini-bio below it, because this is his 'baby', even though it's often someone else talking.

He is not featured in this podcast. That is Jason and Mark (it doesn't even give their surnames). Now I've read and posted on this site for many years so I'm pretty confident its Jason Perone and Mark Oldacres.

My suggestion is to show a little picture of each of THEM above the podcast and to give their full names so that readers with less experience can know who is talking. This doesn't just apply to these two, I'd suggest it for anyone who is doing a particular Pack A Day broadcast.

I'm guessing the guy with a gravelly voice is Mark Oldacres. I really liked his takes on this podcast and enjoyed hearing him and Jason from start to end. Well done to you.

Since the Cheesehead TV staff likely know everyone pretty well, maybe they hadn't thought that some of us would like a headshot pic, like Jersey Al and Aaron Nagler have.

Hey Tur, thank you for listening! It is indeed myself and Mark Eckel who spent over 30 years covering the Eagles as a beat writer (hence the great NFL stories). Mark is a big Packers fan. Reach out to Andy with your suggestion. I'd joke that I don't know how much my face being out there would enhance the experience :). Go Pack!
