Pack-A-Day Podcast - Episode 170 - Green Bay Retains Mike Pettine as Defensive Coordinator

Mike Wendlandt and Tyler Grzegorek are here to breakdown today's coaching updates and review the coaching carousel around the NFL.

On Friday the Packers continued to shake up their coaching staff while also taking a look at potential candidates for the offensive coordinator position. Green Bay officially retained Mike Pettine as defensive coordinator, a move that had been expected, but also let go of defensive passing game coordinator and long time defensive backs coach Joe Whitt Jr. It was also announced that Green Bay would be interviewing former offensive coordinators Nathaniel Hackett and Todd Monken for their open offensive coordinator position. There's a lot up in the air but Mike Wendlandt and Tyler Grzegorek are here to break it all down and review the coaching carousel around the NFL.

I disagree wholeheartedly on the part about Joe Whitt’s firing. The same pass you are giving Pettine for this past year you might as well give one to Whitt for the last three. Ladarius Gunter was our #1 3 years ago. Let that sink in! We brought in House and drafted King 2 years ago. However one or both were in and out of games with injuries. King was shutdown after week 11 that year I believe. So Whitt had to make due with 2nd and 3rd stringers. Fast forward to this past year and it was just a repeat of the previous year. King on the sidelines hurt. House on IR after 3 games and King would follow him to IR 11 weeks later. Whitt has had to deal with shitty injury riddled talent the past three years. When he has his starters his secondary performs well. The saying goes when life gives you lemons make lemonade. Well it’s hard to do that when you’re consistently given apples and oranges and very few lemons.

Pettine allowed a terrible lions team to put 31 points on us. Duh, could have done better looking around. Must be money related.

I would respect Charles Woodson’s opinion on Whitt. What, Whitt carries any McCarthy baggage? Will Campen be next? Baby and bathwater.
