I’m not so sure he’s going to be there on opening day.

And that is just fine. Depending on what guarantees were in the contract, if any, the Packers may not be out anything on this deal other than the stipend any qualified veteran is entitled to during camp for being on the 90.

Ugh! I was hoping for an upgrade over Plodzilla. I get it, he loves Door County. So make him the president of the Chamber of Commerce.

Plodzilla? This is a guy who doesn't miss practices or games and who doesn't turn the ball over. He's put up almost 3200 yards from scrimmage (that'd be 800 per season). He's had 683 touches for a 4.7 average.

He's a #2 back, and a good one. He's not a #1 back, but that doesn't mean he's not any good.

Why do you continue to destroy a good narrative. The back-up running back in GB should be gaining 1600 yards a year on 200 carries. Get with the program.

Bitter, you get me. I just don't understand why alleged fans feel the need to talk trash about our players. Perfect should not be the enemy of good.

In light of losing Jones this is a great move to keep AJ Dillon. It was rare that we even had both Jones and Dillon together as a tandem due to injuries by both players. Dillon struggled when asked to be the leading ball carrier. However,he improved dramatically with the improvement of the O-line. I don't know who the Packers were planning to replace him with in the draft. It looks like they have replaced Jones with Jacobs. The need for another RB is no longer as critical with Quesadilla back home. I think we now need to concentrate on ILB. The only question as I see it is Payton Wilson or Cooper. Wilson had the highest RAS at 9.86. At 6'4 amd 232lbs running a blazing 4.43 combine he would get the nod from me. Can you imagine him blitzing on third down. He would be a QBs worst nightmare. Repeat after me....Payton....Payton.

Good move. AJD is a plus pass blocker, improved through the year as Jones got healthy and our OL put it together, and for cap purposes he is on a vet minimum deal likely with very little guaranteed, so if Wilson and any rookie RBs to be named later have huge camps he is entirely expendable.

Andy put it well - this was an insurance policy more than anything else, and depending on the guarantees it could be an effectively free insurance policy less workout bonuses or the money any player on the 90 would get during camp.

WD, the Packers sources and "guessers of who we will draft" are saying Cooper and Wilson don't fit our needs for LB. They are saying Gray and Colson are better fits for the type we need. I don't understand that because you can't teach speed. Wallace from Kentucky has been a favorite for me and he ran 4.51 @ combine.

I really thought we would sign a FA to take the pressure off the draft. Devin White is still available and could be a steal @ $6 million per year for 3 or 4 years. The undisciplined play story is well documented, but he would be proving his play in a new city. His profile and stats are right in line with Patrick Queen for less money.

I wonder if resigning Dillon is just insurance in case the draft doesn't go as planned. I would think almost all the RBs would still be available @ #88 with the exception of Benson & Wright. It just depends on if they want bigger like Allen or Estime. Or more Jones "clone" like Irving, Lloyd, Davis, or combo of both Isaac Guerendo.

It is 100% insurance. Not so much if they can't draft one but if the draft doesn't net anyone they can trust week 1. Also lets them run him instead of Jacobs during camp. Rest your starters in preseason.

Shows he isn't getting any interest. The guy is simply too slow to be an effective back at the NFL level. As stated above, don't be shocked if he doesn't make the 53 at the end of camp. They will be drafting and they need to draft some speed. Jacobs is no burner and AJ is as slow as it gets for a RB.

I watched some more highlights of Bucky Irving over on Packers Wire and I still would be thrilled with him @ #88 or #91. His 40 time at the combine was surprising because that is definitely not what you see on tape. The guy just makes defenders look helpless at times with his jump cuts. Even more impressive is the power he displays, Over 700 yards this year after first contact.

I don't think anyone would be disappointed if he ended up a Packer. He wouldn't make us forget AJ, but he displays a lot of the same results. And he has great hands too. Check out the article on Packers Wire.
