Thanks Jacob you are one of the only people will to make an honest call on Tom Silverstein. He's a gifted professional writer but the least objective or honest football guy when it comes to Packer players and coaches. From his consistent defense of Nick Perry just being rusty to McCarthy both not losing the team and still an innovative offensive mind (his last season analysis). I’ve cancelled my MJS subscription. I figured the guy was a Packer PR employee. I thought newspaper reporters we supposed to dig in, investigate and get the stories all of us want, not be a cheerleader.

I'm amazed your Journal Sentinel subscription survived the McGinn departure.

Spoon and McGinn played a perfect good cop, bad cop. Tom is still playing good cop and simply doesn't have a foil.

As a rule of thumb, it sounds like a great idea that everyone should get real game practice in the preseason. Then you look at the backup QB situation, and realize that Rodgers is the only hope at QB for a successful season, which means there is no real reason to risk him for a preseason game, especially given his talent and experience.

Caveat: He better get his timing down in practices.

The point is, Rodgers is not going to get any timing down during pre-season games because they're not running any plays he'll run the rest of the season when the games really count. Why risk getting injured for nothing?

IF ROGERS DOESN'T PLAY PRE SEASON I PREDICT THE PACKERS WILL BE 0-2 0R 0-3 DURING REGULAR SEASON BEFORE THEY HAVE A WIN. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR PLAYERS TO GET IN SYNC UNDER GAME CONDITIONS. I GOLF AND I LOSE THE FINE TOUCH IF I DON'T PLAY REGULARLY. SAME FOR PACKERS IMO.
