Packers announce new addition at running back -- again

-- A day after they announced a pair of roster moves at the running back position, the Green Bay Packers are stashing one more runner on the 90-man roster before the weekend ends.

The team announced on Sunday that they're signing another journeyman tailback -- Bronson Hill, who has previously signed with eight different teams and mostly enjoyed brief stints on their respective practice squads.

Undrafted out of Eastern Michigan in 2015, Hill signed with the Buffalo Bills before being waived during the culmination of final roster cuts. Throughout the year, he signed with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints, but never saw action outside of the practice squad.

Like he did in Buffalo, Hill saw preseason action with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016 before being waived by the team and picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was in Jacksonville that he would finally see the field in the regular season -- two carries for 11 yards through the final three games of the year -- before being released several months later.

Hill landed in Minnesota for a three-week tenure with the Vikings, eventually being waived and stashed on their practice squad for two months before being released again in November.

It took less than two weeks for the Arizona Cardinals to scoop Hill up, and just about another week to promote him to their active roster where he carried the ball a single time for negative yardage in two games worth of limited work.

On Saturday, the Packers placed Akeem Judd on the reserve/retired list and signed LeShun Daniels to replace him.

All of these roster moves are a chain reaction to Jamaal Williams' ankle injury suffered against the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday night. Aaron Jones is also still nursing a hamstring injury and has yet to see playing time in the preseason.

Hill will wear No. 36 for the Packers, sharing the number with safety Raven Greene like Judd previously did.

Uh oh. Maybe I'm the classic worry wart, but this could mean Williams has the dreaded high ankle sprain. In addition to Williams and Jones, given Ty M's ankle history, the "running back by committee" that seemed so solid a couple weeks ago might now be fragile.

Are there any clear reports about the status of Williams' ankle, or could this be just the usual pre-season gamesmanship?

All that's out there is that it's "minor," but you know how that goes.

They really just need camp bodies and guys to rotate with in the preseason. You can't have Montgomery and Bouagnon running the ball for four quarters.

Yeah, this is pretty clearly the coaching staff telling personnel that not enough of our RBs will be available in the first two weeks.

They've got to find someone who can play if Williams and Mays are still hurt this next week.

I doubt Lacy would be considered and the rest are either old, unlikely to be seeking backend of a roster reps, or simply don’t represent anything obviously appealing.

Good backs that are healthy are likely on rosters at the moment or not looking for late game preseason reps in the case of Sproles & Peterson

The list shows how slim the pickings are PAP. Of you think this list is sad look through the FA OL list.

Hopefully these are just camp bodies to get through the next 2 preseason games. Jones should be ready by the time his suspension is over since that is still 5 weeks away.

Be nice to have Williams and Mays ready for week 1.

Thanks, Since '61

Since 61: Nice thought, but we needed those backs for the first two crucial division games. Especially against the queens! Then again, MM is a genius and will have them ready??? Fan since 58. Maybe a five receiver set? Hummmm...

I really wanted us to pick up a late round RB for this very reason. Akrum Wadley and John Kelly were two guys I loved pre-draft, and either could have been had in the 6th round. Nothing is set in stone obviously, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a RB high in the draft next year, especially if Monty isn't resigned.

I still find it strange the Packers have such a hard time finding a back who is dependable and makes a difference. They say backs are short lived and replaceable by age 30. Isnt it a bit odd our scout team can't find ONE!! It shows we are definitely hurting at that position. This going to hurt us greatly this season. Ty left, but needs help!! Jones screws up, William's excellent, but somethings is definitely not being told to us. With no horses, the wagon wont be pulled.

Not sure how to view this. Is this simply a search for an easy camp body, or is there something more significant at play here? Lots of movement at the RB position the last few days... only time will tell!

We are in trouble at running back. What looked like gold appears to be fools gold. Scout team has not done their job, as have our GM's failed us. Looking for table scraps now. Sad. Let's hope though...
