As contrarian (there's that word again) as your comment sounds chuck, mike zimmer is a darn good defensively minded coach (I'm jumping through the fact that he and rick spielman would be in lockstep..... as opposed to what has happened at GB recently - apologies if this offends, but the logician in me still can't fathom how Ted, Mike and Dom got so disconnected without someone pulling on the reigns) . As such I'd agree with taking a peek at any discards from their RB or DB rooms. I also think that checking out any Pittsburgh draft off-casts too (at deep positions) as i think that they do a a "hullava job" constructing their roster.

Side thought - MM needs to get on the same page as Nick Saban if GB intends to continue drafting Alabama players. 'Bama undoubtedly get the cream of the HS crop and do great things with them. MM needs to tap into some of that - HHCD is a better player than what we are seeing, and between he and Eddie Lacy I'm starting to see the shoots of a trend occurring where successful bama products hit the pros, do some good things then fade.... is the CBA freedom affecting these guys (who may need persistent driving to remain successful)??

Croat made a point a couple of articles ago and I tend to agree with him - in broad brush terms, a RB is only as good as the o-line that gives him the running lanes (and I'll add the QB that sells the pass option to hold off secondary rushers).

If he's getting stuffed at the line of scrimmage by 250lb LB's or 300+ lb D-lineman then his injury probability is going to be greatly increased.

Granted that Le'veon Bell makes some great things out of nothing, but his running style is unique - but case in point Adrian Peterson, who didn't dominate the packers (primarily because they knew he was getting the ball instead of the QB passing it).

Two of the biggest factors that people ignore when they talk about how Lombardi would make today's players play through injury or hit the road:

1) The overall level of competition is vastly superior today than it was then. That is not to say there were not great players back then- there absolutely were- but today, there are MORE top athletes competing across the league, and the margin that separates success and failure in the one-on-one match ups is far more narrow. Modern football players are world class athletes today, and the difference in the fraction of a second lost from playing on a tight hamstring or sprained ankle when the guy across from you is also a world class athlete is the difference between success and failure more so now than back in the day.

2) The players today, for better or for worse, are now MASSIVE financial investments, and more often than not, it is the trainers and coaches who shut down a player because they are looking at the investment. Also, again, regardless if player "a" wants to play through the injury, if player "b" will be more competitive at 100% than player "a" at 80%, they are going to sit that player.

Totally agree. The Packers are too distracted by side shows, theme parks, toiletmaker lodges and pr bs. To your point, easiest position for transition traditionally. Also one where you need bodies to run practices let alone for PS games to limit impact on those heading for the roster.

At this point, therefore, most teams have several beyond number required in season, so pickings are few. Hopefully Mays and Jones get back for game 4 at least. Until then,definitely need depth with Williams dinged.

You make it sound like the Packers main purpose for signing backs the last two days is because they aren't happy with what they have.

Do you even follow the packers? They're signing camp bodies right now because the RB's are all nursing injuries, and it's better to have those guys get healthy than force them to take reps in practice.. someone HAS to play RB in practice.

When jones and Williams get healty, thise camp bodies get released. I'm tempted to say the same thing about Mays, but he hasn't been in camp at all, so who knows.
