Packers claim S Ibraheim Campbell off waivers, release P Drew Kaser

-- With Kentrell Brice out with a knee injury, the Green Bay Packers took a gamble on a free agent safety to help restock the position.

They were awarded Ibraheim Campbell off of waivers from the New York Jets on Monday, marking the fifth team Campbell has played for in his career. The Packers had Campbell in for a workout last month, along with several other players.

A fourth-round pick made by the Cleveland Browns in 2015, Campbell started one game -- but played exclusively in 15 --  under Mike Pettine, the Packers' current defensive coordinator and then-head coach of the Browns.

Campbell had gone through the wringer after his brief, three-season stint in Cleveland. He was signed to the Houston Texans' active roster by the end of the 2017 season where he made his bed until final roster cut-downs this past September. He remained in Texas, being claimed off of waivers by the Dallas Cowboys the following day, however, he was waived after a month.

His time with the Jets lasted just over a week. Now, he reunites with his former head coach in Pettine with an opportunity to earn playing time in an otherwise thin group.

Jermaine Whitehead was questionable to play against the New England Patriots Sunday night with a back injury and was later ejected during the game. Brice, as previously mentioned, is battling a knee injury suffered against the Patriots. Campbell at least gives the Packers another body to work with.

Drew Kaser, the punter signed on Saturday as emergency relief in the event that JK Scott's wife goes into labor and Scott is unable to play in New England, was released as a result of Campbell's signing.

Damnit, I was just going to purchase Kaser's Packer jersey and now he's gone. Actually that's a relief. I was a little worried there for a second that they were going to get rid of Scott. Reynoldo came the rescue with the news on the baby. Also good news on the safety pickup. We need guys familar with Pettine's system.

I don't know anything about the guy but with a resume that includes being both a Browns and a Jets cast-off doesn't bode well for his upside. Hopefully he's smart enough not to bitch-slap an opponent after the whistle at least.

If he is not good enough, you would think Pettine would have noticed. Pettine obviously thinks enough of him to want him.

P.S. Dean Lowry played with him in college: Rob Demovsky has a fairly glowing quote from Lowry on him in terms of tackling and coverage.

He has 4.5 speed and well under 7 on 3 cone drill. Rated # 4 SS at draft time. So, he has good measurables for a FA safety and plenty of experience. May turn out ok.
Sometimes a decent player just needs to be in the right place at the right time. Look at WR GMO, who ever thought he would make it as well as he did.

I heard from someone here that he was/is a nut. Don't know if that's true or not.

Pick #46 - Safety
Rd 3- OL
Rd 4- ILB
Rd 4 (from Wash) - OL
Rd 5 - BPA
Rd 6 -BPA
Rd 7 -BPA

RT and Guards need addressed in FA. We don't need rookies on the OL hoping that they are studs like Bak and Corey. I'll be happy with a couple younger vets with minimal injury history.

Replace McCarthy with McDaniels

Your draft is missing the 6th round pick we got from Seattle for Hundley. We should get a comp pick for Nelson. Burnet has barely played hard to say if the Packers will receive anything for him. They could use him right about now.

cant see the packers grabbing an o lineman with their first pick, they tend to hit in the midrounds and FA. I also cringe at another draft full of defense.

This guy looks a real rocket scientist. Maybe he and breeland can bring new meanings to defensive holding.
The good bad news, if this team looses to Miami, the fans can RELAX, season over. Golf will be starting up again.
