Packers Daily: Consistently Waiting On Lukas Van Ness
Packers edge rusher Lukas Van Ness may never be a super star but he's shown he can be a high level starter if he can stay on the field.

Draft and develop. You'd hope guys would contribute by year 2 to take advantage of the rookie contracts. Hopefully LVN is an upgrade over Rashan and becomes a solid and healthy player this year. Finally.

Van Ness might never be more than an average NFL player. I have said for 2 years that he probably should move around the D-line because he has been successful when he moves inside. Lukas is a big boy @ 6'5 280lbs, and I think Green Bay will see the most return from him by putting on 15-20 more pounds and becoming the Packers version of Braden Fiske. Don't forget Van Ness ran a ridiculous 40-yard dash at the draft combine, like high 4.5s.
Maybe Edge just isn't the best place for him, well we need interior D-line and pass rush from there.
GB would be crazy to give him the 5th year extension. Unless he has the long awaited "breakout" year, then Re- sign him to a modest contract, like 3-years & $5 million per year. He owes the Packers something for as little as he has given back so far. I think he could accomplish something yet that will make us glad we drafted him, but he never should have been picked that high. Not a total miss, but....

Van Ness has shown he’s a solid run defender this year. However, he’s never really proved to be a significant threat to the QB. Just about enough to be seen as more than a run down specialist. To me that’s the definition of a good number 3 not a desired starter.

Is Van ness better than Gary? Ideally we keep both in my view. I disagree that Van ness has not been productive. When healthy he is a positive asset to the team.

Sorry WD, I think it's past time to move on from Gary. Trade him for a 5th round pick, we need the draft ammo badly this year since we have very little cap room for FA "Saviors."

'Consistently Waiting On Lukas Van Ness'
I don't have a problem with that.
We've been waiting on Gute and MLF....much longer.
