I like the strategy of going for 2 every time except for game situations where it makes no sense. If you fail 50% of your attempts it costs you nothing, and you might come out ahead if you succeed more than that. I'm told that the team with more points at the end of the game wins, so it seems like scoring more points is a good idea.

Practice time limitations might not allow for trying to implement this change now though?

You make a valid point.
I think many coaches play “afraid”.
But I can see this happening; someone will break the seal in the future. Much like deferring on KO’s (that never happened when I was growing up), and the 4th down conversion attempts have become routine.
