Packers Expectations and Odds
By contributor
The new season of the NFL is now up and running and that means that fans are slipping back into following their favorite teams – sometimes by watching the games at home or in a bar, and at other times by attending the actual stadiums. Of course some also enjoy speculating and betting about how the different teams will fare and which one might win the NHL. This piece will look at one of those teams, namely the Green Bay Packers, to see how they might fare.
The Packers went into the 2015 season boasting more or less the same roster that they had had the year before, and yet never seemed to find any real momentum. Whereas 2014 saw them score more points than any other side in the NFC North Division and avoid defeat at home on their way to the NFC Championship, last season they lost out on both the divisional title and the divisional play-offs. The Packers have not made significant on-field changes to personnel since last season – only draft choices and Jared Cook have been added to their roster – which means they would appear to be assuming that last season was a blip and trusting long-serving head coach Mike McCarthy to get them back on form again this season. This is McCarthy’s eleventh season in charge of the team, which is an impressive degree of continuity in any sport these days and you can argue that he has made the Packers one of the most consistent teams in the NFC – as they have made the play-offs for seven successive seasons under his tenure.
Therefore they would seem to be a pretty safe bet for at least a play-off position again this season, especially as one of their stars – Jordy Nelson – has returned after having missed all of last season due to injury. They also have other potential standouts like Clay Matthews, while the loss of James Jones at wide receiver is not as big a blow as some have claimed, with the Packers having younger options to fill his spot. The Packers have started the new season promisingly, with two wins in three games – the most recent result a 34-27 win over the Detroit Lions – and this has seen the bookies place them as +800 second favorites for this year’s Super Bowl. It is a little early to judge whether they can go all the way this year, so betting on individual matches might be wiser. While you wait for the next game, why not try an NFL themed casino slot like $5 Million Touchdown available at www.casinoonline.co.nz? For one thing, that name is no empty boast – the actual top jackpot available is $5 million, while the reels are filled with NFL related imagery and the bonus games are also based on it.
If you pick the winner of the Super Bowl and win the $5 Million Touchdown jackpot, you can likely retire and go to a ton of Packers games!
