Packers get Kenny Clark some help with the Jarran Reed signing

The Green Bay Packers are signing former Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Jarran Reed and no one should be happier than Kenny Clark.

Every time I post here I say we need another DL. If we can add another quality DL in the draft we can have a really good defense.

Totally agree NYGary!

Jarran provides quality depth and will be interesting to see how the competition goes. But remember..he has signed a one-year contract and is stop gap. The Packers definitely need to decide who are their draft selections in Rd 1 thru Rd 2 whether DL, Edge, WR, OT, or TE. It is my belief they need a quality DL in one of those first 4 selections and the higher the better.

Before this pick I thought that I wouldn’t be upset if they spent all 4 of their 1-2 round picks on quality linemen (O or D). I still wouldn’t be.

This really good defense just got a little better.

I preferred Hicks—-but this helps—I think?

Reed is three years younger and way more likely to actually be on the field and not on the sideline. It should help. They at least can field a starting defensive line now.

Perhaps filling the D-line void ever since the departure of Mike Daniels. Especially pleased for Kenny Clark who now has interior help.

A work colleague of mine was on the Seahawks practice squad a few years back. He said we won’t be disappointed, I’ll take it!

I like this pickup. Barring injury, his floor seems to be an adequate rotation guy. Wishlist would be he outperforms his contract in a Zadarius / Campbell / Woodson sort of way (Woodson level would be a moon shot).

Hey, an actual attempt to improve the team rather than just rounding up the usual suspects. Way to go,Gute! Even if it doesn’t work, at least you’re trying.

and he left a great chiefs team why? If they let him go there's a good reason. If this guy still had talent the Packers couldn't afford him so why this guy and not the draft.
I see the Lions picked up another top notch free agent pass defender and the Vikes an angry Smith who has an axe to grind with the pack and we sign Tonyan who was downhill before his major slow down injury and some bum disgarded by the chiefs.

Yea, but we picked up ZaDarius when he wasn't being pursued, so maybe (and I'm hoping) that Reed will turn out to be a good fit.

I’m sorry but he does not impress me. However, when I look at who else we have besides Clark, then I can understand it a bit more. The ,since departed, packers OLB coach once said that pressure is as important as sacks. Perhaps that’s why we picked him up. Oh, and he has a reasonable price too. But he is not a long term solution. Maybe he is a placeholder for someone we draft?

Yes. Even a high round DL will take time to develop, and Kenny Clark v 2.0 isn’t available as a reasonably priced free agent.

No one knows how Reed will produce, but there are some leaders on the Pack that will motivate him to go nuts on the DL. Barry has a guy to complement Clark. Give it a chance - it's a 1 yr deal. If it doesn't work, he's gone in 2023. If it does, we get tougher on the front line. Win-Win deal by Guter.

Agree. Even though I am not overly impressed with his stats I do feel he is a good addition to our defense.
