Packers officially name Luke Getsy as QBs coach

-- The Green Bay Packers are officially hiring on Luke Getsy as their quarterbacks coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Getsy had been rumored to return to the Packers for a small period of time before the wheels began churning for an official reunion last week

The Packers successfully managed to pry away Getsy from his collegiate gig as Mississippi State's offensive coordinator -- a duty he served for a single season after leaving the Packers in 2017.

Getsy was previously the Packers' offensive quality control coach for two seasons before becoming their wide receivers coach in 2016. He helped oversee Davante Adams' third year in the league which helped jumpstart his ascension up the ranks of the league's top pass-catchers.

Once his contract had expired at the end of the 2017 season, Alex Van Pelt opted to pursue other opportunities, eventually landing with the Cincinnati Bengals. While this left the relationship dynamic between Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy at something of a standstill, new head coach Matt LaFleur has presumably helped set the framework for his own connection with Rodgers by bringing aboard a face he's familiar with.

Getsy's work with Rodgers in 2019 is expected to be a major factor in the team's overall success. Rodgers, who came off of one of the worst statistical seasons of his career -- by his standards -- is in need of some form of rejuvenation as he enters his age 36 season.

Between LaFleur and Getsy, the belief is that the stars are aligned for just that very thing to happen.

Rodgers will have two influential voices in his ear -- one of which he's more sociable with than the other -- that can help him get back to playing comfortably within whatever offense LaFleur implements.

Another McCarthy assistant, Ben Sirmans, is also returning to coach the team's running backs. Though not officially announced, Sirmans is expected to be the only offensive assistant from McCarthy's 2018 staff to stick around.

"Rizzi and LaFleur hit it off, the source said, but Rizzi left town without the offer he thought was forthcoming. Although the Packers met his number several days later, the source said, he decided to pull himself out of the running."

Did anybody see this?
Russ Ball strikes again.

It is like anything else you never know what the real deal is and what happened behind closed doors. You also have to pay the going rate without upsetting all other coaches salary. Yes, I know Rizzi apparently is a good coach but you cannot break the bank. Pure speculation but there are likely other reasons why Rizzi didnt accept the job. I know if I was married with school children and living in Florida and could choose jobs anywhere around the NFL the odds my family would choose GB likely would be slim.

My issue isn't will them saying no... A budget is a budget. BJT they were clearly willing to meet the $ (nothing changed in the $ days).

So if they were willing to meet it, sign him in the room!
It sounds like they lost their guy because they played games not because they didn't want to spend the $

All very good points. I agree, unless a coach with a young family had ties to the midwest and views small town life as a pawsative, it's a tough sell. Wisconsin has much better public schools than Florida, but my guess is these families are able to afford private schools. Like any job fit is important in all areas, not just the work offered.
