Packers place Corey Linsley on injured reserve

The team also elevated guard Ben Braden and tight end Dominique Dafney for the Eagles game.

The Packers announced on Saturday afternoon that they have placed center Corey Linsley on injured reserve,

The team has also elevated guard Ben Braden from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday as a COVID-19 replacement and elevated tight end Dominique Dafney from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday.

Linsley will have to miss at least three weeks, though his absence will most likely extend a bit longer than that with NFL Network reporting earlier this week that Linsley is dealing with an MCL sprain and will miss somewhere between three to six weeks.

If he even makes it back this season, if all goes well with Jenkins at center and Runyan in the lineup it will be interesting to see if he even gets a contract offer from the Packers or if that just leaves more money for A Jones.

Linsley had been playing well for us, this season. However, with the solid O Line play by Jenkins, Runyan and Taylor, Linsley may be off the roster, for next season. A lower salary cap, next year, and the need to re-sign certain players, or offer extensions to others, may force GB to release, or trade Linsley. Russ Ball has some work to do, this off season. No matter what happens, Linsley has been a reliable player for the Packers.

Bit of an understatement; Linsley is the highest rated center in the NFL and has been a stalwart PLUS since he has played for the Packers. Unfortunately for us, his tremendous talent and reliability are well known and a a pro bowl center his contract offers when he is a free agent in 2021 will likely prevent the Packers from retaining to top notch player and top notch person.

Linsley is already counting $10.5 against the salary cap this year, I doubt he'd accept anything less in the next few years.

3-6 weeks means he likely misses the rest of the regular season and with an MCL sprain he also will need a couple of weeks of conditioning after the 3-6 weeks to be ready to play. Linsley may have played his last snap in Green Bay. An unfortunate way to end his excellent Packer career.

Has there been any news about AJ Dillon? He's still out because of Covid but I have not read how sick he is.

It seems like a long time even if he had usual "flu-like" illness. That doesn't usually take 5 weeks, so I hope he is not seriously ill.

Regrettably Covid-19 affects people very differently. Some survivors come through relatively OK. Others take a longer time to fully recover and many have long term damage to one or more of their internal organs.

My son and daughter-in-law are both doctors and I have three doctors who live on my street and several others throughout our neighborhood. We are less than 5 miles from our local hospital so it’s a convenient location for our doctors.
In any case, they have never seen anything like COVID-19 and it’s effects on the human body. Most distressing to all of them is the lack of concern they see among the population in taking preventative measures like wearing a mask or lack of social distancing. They can’t understand why millions of people don’t care about their health or the health of others.
Beyond that there is the physical and emotional toll this pandemic is taking on the medical professionals, our first responders and of course the families of the victims.

As for Dillon, I wish him a speedy recovery whether or not that means he can play football again. Thanks, Since ‘61

My best friend in the neighborhood is 50 years old, works out regularly, and is in very good health. His daughter, a high school freshman, picked up covid19 from her basketball teammate. It quickly spread throughout his home to him, his wife, and other daughter.

My friend was in the hospital for over a week. At one point he was receiving 10 liters of oxygen a day. He seriously thought something bad was going to happen. Even now, a few weeks later, he continues to have breathing issues.

The doctors and nurses who treated him in the ICU could not have been more kind. I called the hospital to check on him and was put straight through to his floor, where the nurse bragged on him for sitting up in a chair and doing his breathing exercises. I know that they kept his obviously distressed wife very much up to date on his condition.

Folks, please listen to what Since'61 is saying.

I went to get our dinner last night via curbside pickup. This restaurant is only open for take out but on the way I passed two taverns and a wine bar open for business. The parking lots were all packed. One bar is two blocks from the largest nursing home in the area. Guess where it’s employees go to relax after shift? Now that home is experiencing an outbreak. I wonder how that happened?

We closed the schools again but heaven forbid we close the bars. I’m not a Prohibitionist but please drink at home, people! For a while people were getting their booze delivered until the local Barney Fifes shut that down because they claimed it violated some ordinance. THAT was high priority!

The transmission rate of this virus is really scary. I wish your friend a full recovery. Stay well. Thanks, Since ‘61

I also have a number of doctor friends and they clued me in on a study about anti-interferon-autobodies that is in part, an explanation of why COVID has such wildly different impacts on different people, particularly otherwise low risk people. This study is not confirmed by others yet, but offers the first insight into why otherwise low risk patients can die from COVID. The point is this disease can kill or have lasting serious impacts on anyone.

Just because you aren't obese, aren't over 64 and don't have a known auto-immune condition doesn't mean you can't die from COVID19. Protect yourself and others by wearing a mask and engaging in proper social distancing. This disease is nasty.

Agree Guam. The doctors continue to learn more about this virus on a daily basis. The issue is how much more do they still need to learn about it? Stay well. Thanks, Since ‘61

It is RNA driven and has several variations of mutation since manifesting last January. We all know the score, practice the protocols, be a good Citizen and follow the mask mandates. No need for Q and irrational outliers.
Science over sorcery.

Fortunately the vaccine seems very near. Doctor friend confirmed that the staff of a local hospital are scheduled to receive their first inoculation next week. Yeah! Stay safe until the vaccine rolls around to the rest of us.

'61, my next door neighbor is a heart surgeon, so he doesn't see the COVID patients that a general practitioner does. He and I play golf every Wednesday and ride to the club together and both of us wear masks. He recommends caution concerning this virus and feel too many of the people in California, where we live, are putting themselves at risk as well as others due to their cavalier attitude. I golf often and prefer to rent a cart alone to maintain distance. Other than those outings on the golf course, my family and I are like troglodytes (cave dwellers) who are limiting our exposure. I just got a flu shot about couple of weeks ago and this may be a good time to remind our other Packer fans here who have yet to get one to do so. Best of luck to all of you.

It’s a difficult situation. You are wise to use a separate golf cart and I’m sure that you sanitize the steering wheel and other other touch points.

With a vaccine on the way, now is the time to be more vigilant than ever. Who wants to get the virus and possibly die when the vaccine is only 3-6 months away for all of us.

My wife is immune compromised so I have taken on the majority of errand running. I am extra careful while I’m out and wipe down everything I bring into the house. The worst for us is that we can’t spend much physical time with our grandchildren. Fortunately there is face time and Skype.

Everyone stay safe and stay well. Thanks, Since ‘61

I’m thinking there is a good chance that Linsley has played his last game as a Packer. Jenkins has an excellent chance to solidify himself as the Packers starting Center and Runyon can earn himself a spot starting at Guard. With Bak signed and Lucas Patrick taking over at RG the only possible open spot for 2021 is RT and we will probably resign Turner or Wagner to fill that position and add an OT in the draft.

Linsley will probably become the odd man out especially if he expects a big pay day. Thanks, Since ‘61

I think both Turner and Wagner are already signed for next year - Turner has two years remaining on his contract and Wagner one year. The only question mark is whether the Packers bring Lane Taylor back (which I doubt) on a veteran minimum contract.

You are correct, and I’m not counting on Lane Taylor for anything.

Remember before the season started how various nitwits wanted to cut Linsley and Turner so they could create cap space to sign a flashy WR?

Resigning Taylor would be a surprise, but so was resigning Bahk (at least to me) so IDK anymore.

Suggestions of cutting Linsley last year were nuts. Too good and reasonably paid. I was less sure of Turner due to his average play at guard, but he has excelled this year at both guard and tackle. Very glad we kept him!

I was never on the WR bandwagon - I thought we would be okay with adding Funchess, which shows you how much I know. I really wanted a DT though.

Fill in a center and guard with four and five picks. They have the comp picks to fill some depth.

The may have already made those picks. Stepaniak is a highly regarded guard who fell to round six because of his injury which will cause him to miss this season, but he will be ready for next season. Hanson was also drafted in the 6th round and is a center who is on the practice squad. Both will be second year players next year and likely able to help more than rookies from the 4th and 5th round of next year's draft.

But aren't Stepaniak & Hanson center & guard? Will either or them be able to transition to RT in order to not have to draft one this spring (eventual replacement for Turner)?

The Tackle spots are covered. The best depth on the O line in quite awhile. Wagner may or may not stay onboard. I don't see Turner moving out unless they trade him. Taylor will not be ready by next autumn.
