Packers place undrafted TE Davis Koppenhaver on reserve/retired list

-- Davis Koppenhaver, an undrafted free agent tight end signed to the Green Bay Packers' roster earlier this month, is leaving the team to pursue a career outside of football.

Michael Cohen of The Athletic was first on the report, and it was later confirmed by the team that Koppenhaver was being placed on the reserve/retired list.

Koppenhaver finished his collegiate career with the Duke Blue Devils as the school's all-time leader in touchdown receptions by a tight end with 12. He played in 41 games, hauling in 49 passes for 431 yards. He graduated with a degree in psychology and is currently pursuing a master's degree in management studies.

There was little likelihood that Koppenhaver would crack the Packers' final roster in September at a loaded tight end position. The team currently has five on their roster: Jimmy Graham, Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, Evan Baylis and Jace Sternberger.

Sternberger, a third-round pick in last month's draft, has yet to sign his rookie contract.

Former wide receiver Michael Clark, who saw regular-season snaps for the Packers in 2017, was placed on the reserve/did not report list last July. However, he retired from the game of football.

Koppenhaver was basically fighting for a spot on the practice squad. He has to do what he thinks is best for him.

Packers should reach out to Colt Lyerla and see if he’s interested. He’d be the best TE on the roster.

Lyerla? YGBSM .....it would be a very sad state of affairs if Lyerla were the best option the Packers had at Te. Would his parole officer let him leave the state of Montana? Chaka you cant be serious!

Last I heard he tried to escape from jail, where he was doing time on heroin charges. So, not really available.

I think we need to here more about Josh Jones. Even Graham. Part of the equipment in camp, should be a boxing ring this year.
