Packers Practice Roundup: August 12, 2025

Today's practice was marred by more injuries.

That’s it for practice after 1:57.  Hodkiewicz

PARTICIPATION:

New injuries: QB Jordan Love (left thumb procedure) RB Israel Abandikanda (hamstring).   DNPs: S Zayne Anderson (knee) S Xavier McKinney (calf) WR Jayden Reed (foot) WR Dontayvion Wicks (calf) CB Nate Hobbs (knee) CB Isaiah Dunn (knee) WR Christian Watson (knee) DE Collin Oliver (hamstring) OL John Williams (back).  Hodkiewicz  [5 of the top 6 WRs were out.  Golden was available.  TGR]

Does Brian Gutekunst expect Xavier McKinney back for Week 1? “Yeah. Absolutely.”  Schneidman

He's having a procedure this morning due to ligament damage in his non-throwing thumb.  Spofford

Brian Gutekunst says Jordan Love is having a procedure done on his left thumb, stemming from the last play where hit a helmet. Hoping to have him back at practice next week. Shouldn't miss any regular season time.  2)  Gutekunst on Christian Watson: "More than likely, he'll start on PUP, but after those four games, I'm sure he'll be champing at the bit."  3)  Rasheed Walker is back at LT in team. 4)  Abanikanda unavailable but MarShawn Lloyd and Emanuel Wilson back in team. Lloyd looks powerful and explosive on his first snap with the threes.  5)  Kamal Hadden is back in team.  Hodkiewicz

Now Musgrave and LVN collide and both go off to the side. Musgrave currently with a trainer. Just one of those days.  2) Mercifully practice is over. Players who looked to get banged up at one point or another: Savion Williams Romeo Doubs Luke Musgrave LVN All could be nothing. We’ll have to see.  Herman

Romeo Doubs seemingly walking fine in the locker room, but respectfully said he didn’t have time to talk with reporters today. Rob Demosky asked him if he’s good and Doubs said yes.  2) Packers also waived/injured CB Isaiah Dunn.  3) Packers waived/injured RB Jalen White. Schneidman

[The Packers signed] RB Tyrion Davis-Price, who is a former third-round pick [in 2022]. The Packers waived-injured running back Jalen White (foot) and cornerback Isaiah Dunn (knee).  Huber

Packers navigating injuries at WR. Kawaan Baker was 7th round pick in 2021 out of South Alabama. Listed at 6-1 - 215. He has no regular season snaps on offense. [Packers were awarded Baker after they made a waiver claim.  He had been on the Raiders.  TGR] Bretl

PERSONNEL:

Starters:

Willis Jacobs

Musgrave - Kraft

Hardman - Golden

Morgan - Banks - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom

Defense: Gary - Wyatt - Clark - LVN

McDuffie - Quay - Cooper

Nixon - Valentine Bullard - Williams

Herman

OFFENSE:

MarShawn Lloyd completely reverses fields for a much bigger pickup than he had any right getting. He’s so damn good. Just needs to stay healthy.  2) Kadeem Telfort false start. 3)  Emanuel Wilson fumble goes into the end zone and recovered by the defense. I think Hopper may have popped it out but tough to tell.  4) Brooks gets around McDuffie on the edge on a swing pass for a good gain.  5) Big time throw from Willis to Musgrave for a td. Nice day by 88 today. Willis stepping up as well.  Herman

Jordan Morgan looked really good in 1v1. Tremendous feet, you can see his left tackle athleticism. Erased a speed rush outside against Lukas Van Ness. Also a strong anchor against Barryn Sorrell’s bull.  2) Zach Tom won all three 1v1 reps against Rashan Gary. Lost his helmet twice.  2) Malik Willis with perhaps his best throw of camp, threading traffic in middle of field to Matthew Golden. Football somehow got through a diving Ty’Ronn Hopper. Strong hands play from Golden, who has already made plenty of plays with Jordan Love.   3) Romeo Doubs drops a go back from Malik Willis. Beat Keisean Nixon deep, and Malik Willis put it over Doubs’ shoulder, but dropped. Doubs still down with trainers after play.  4)  Malik Willis delivers 30-yard TD to Luke Musgrave on a corner route. Musgrave just flashed his vertical speed, beating Quay Walker downfield.   5)  Sean Clifford hits Isaiah Neyor for a 26-yard TD on go ball down left side. Neyor beat Kalen King deep and laid out for tremendous catch in end zone. [A quiet camp from Big Cliff.  TGR]  5) MarShawn Lloyd, finally healthy, really does have some quick feet. He’s twice cut back in the backfield and managed to find lanes on backside.  [Against the threes, though.  TGR]  Wood

On the third play of the day, a jet sweep to Savion Williams picked up a nice chunk of yards because of Malik Heath’s block against Evan Williams.  2) On the next play, Jacobs had a nice run to the left. Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich was fired up about the block delivered by right guard Sean Rhyan.  3) At times, the No. 2 line consisted of left tackle Kadeem Telfort, left guard Donovan Jennings, center Sean Rhyan, right guard Jacob Monk and right tackle Anthony Belton. So far, nobody has emerged as the backup center to Elgton Jenkins.  Huber

1x1s.  by Herman

Valentine good coverage on Doubs - overthrown.

Kraft beats Williams on a deep corner.

Good coverage by Bullard but sims with the contested catch.

Heath can’t hang on vs Herring.

Nixon all over a slant by Williams but Williams somehow catches it.

Oladapo good coverage on Musgrave incomplete.

Hardman had King turned around - went right through his hands deep.

Robinson pi on golden.

Doubs cooked Valentine but overthrown.

Kraft bears Williams deep again - not terrible coverage.

Fitz wins vs Omar.

Shep beats Melton on a slant.

Neyor bears Ballentine on a slant.

Simmons good coverage on Sims.

Baldwin pbu on Swinson.

Hicks win vs herring.

Golden ran right past Robinson but well overthrown.

Kraft 3/3 vs Williams.

This time on a slant Bullard had great coverage on Musgrave but Musgrave stopped his route and came open at the end.

Savion Williams beats Nixon on a very impressive rep by the rook.

Heath had Ballentine on a go but just out of his reach.

Good coverage by Harris on Fitzpatrick.

Fantastic route by Hartman vs king for a completion.

Doubs and Valentine running side by side but also well overthrown. Lot of bad balls in that period.  [It is not clear who the QB or QBs were.  TGR]

Herman

DEFENSE:

Ty’Ronn Hopper just shot through the line and dislodged the football from Emanuel Wilson. Clean contact. Didn’t even wrap the RB. Just a good, hard thud, and the football went sailing. A “wow” play.  2)  Edgerrin Cooper having a HUGE day. Picked Malik Willis early. Blew up an Emanuel Wilson screen. Now just bursts into backfield for a sack on Taylor Elgersma. He’s as fast as you remember last year.  3) Isaiah Simmons ends practice sacking Malik Willis with blitz up middle on fourth-and-2. Willis throws a deep out to Mecole Hardman, and Evan Williams picks it. Double whammy for an offense that had two long TDs before it.  Wood

Phenomenal play by Cooper as he skied for a tipped pass at the line, catches it and returns it for 6. Malik the QB.  2)  Enagbare with a massive run stop behind the line. He was fired up after that one.   3)  Mosby potential sack but play continues and Clifford finds Shep on a deep corner.  [A Mosby sighting!  Very rare and here it comes against backups.  TGR]  4) Rashan Gary just split a double from Belton & Tyler Cooper [a rookie OG out of U of MN] for a big time pressure.  5)  Enagbare having a nice day. Would be sack on Willis.   Herman

A couple of early runs by Josh Jacobs went nowhere because of Kenny Clark, who is putting together a strong camp. Devonte Wyatt added a tackle for loss.  2) After missing time with a hip injury, Kamal Hadden had great coverage on a slant to Romeo Doubs for the breakup.  3) The pass rush was fierce at times. During a span of about a half-dozen plays, Quay Walker and Rashan Gary sacked Sean Clifford, Wyatt sacked Taylor Elgersma and Edgerrin Cooper sacked Elgersma. All of that comes with the caveat that Green Bay’s starting defense was going against the No. 2 line. Gary also had a strong rush to force Clifford’s throw to be too high for Isaiah Neyor.  Huber

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Brandon McManus goes deep. Good from 50L, 52R, 54M. Now 56-of-60 since camp began. Kicking like an All-Pro right now.  Wood

MISCELLANEOUS:

Matt LaFleur says it's "highly unlikely" Jordan Love plays in the preseason finale against Seattle, even if he returns to practice next week. 2) Gutekunst sounded adamant that Love will be ready for Week 1 against the Lions. Hit his left hand on a helmet on that half-scramble vs. Jets. Wanted to see how it felt at practice yesterday and decided to get it fixed to avoid future issues. Will be with team in Indianapolis. 2) MarShawn Lloyd juking just drew oohs and ahhs from his own teammates. Dontayvion Wicks had hand on chin, mouth open like he saw a ghost.  Schneidman

Good to hear Lloyd putting on a show at times. He’s exciting. I wonder if he can protect and stay healthy. Hopper is coming on too. Morgan seeming to settle, but is he close to Walker? That’s the key for me at LT this year.

Neyor is an interesting guy for a late pick up. Lots of physical talent but lost the meat of college to a bad ACL—missed a year and was a shadow the second year—leading to some poor film. He does have good hands. Not a bad attribute for a late PS push.

Still not much sign of a CB breaking out from depth but Valentine getting a chance to get starting reps is good. Am I the only one who thinks he’s better than Nixon on the perimeter? With all these injuries, more young players are getting the chance to get noticed.

Joint practice should be more interesting as a result and, while this game might not be pretty, it going to be critical for those hoping to rise up the depth chart for the back of the roster and PS. WR might be surprisingly interesting this week. Of course corner and DL. Will anyone really make a push? Oladapo might be a dark horse who benefits too. Will we see him in the slot or just deep?

Waiting to see where Morgan lands. He could start at LT or RG, or be the backup at all of the guard and tackle positions. I think GB has 7 usable offensive linemen.

McDuffie now getting the starting LB reps, but Isaiah Simmons, after a bad outing in the preseason game, has time, and I think the coaches want that to work. I don't think Jamon Johnson has shown enough yet, but lotta ball game left. We know what Kristian Welch can do. He is a guy who can help a team. He is in the same category as Arron Mosby.

I don't care if GB keeps 5 or 6 WRs. Not overly interested in Hardman or Heath.

I'd like to keep Gary, LVN, Enagbare, Cox, Sorrell, and probably Oliver just since they drafted him and I don't like releasing 5th round draft picks before they get on the field to earn that release. That is 6. I think guys like Mosby are really useful, but I have to place the line somewhere. He'd be 7!

I would like to keep Clark, Wyatt, Brooks, Stackhouse, and Brinson. I don't hate Wooden but I am indifferent. Randolph has to show more to move into real consideration. I just don't think GB is going to keep 12 much less 13 defensive linemen.

GB has 3 CBs who can start. Melton, Hadden and Ballentine would be 6 CBs. Ballentine looks better to me as someone who can probably play if necessary, especially if the Packers want to take a flier on Melton and/or Hadden. At least Hadden looks pretty good when he is upright. Baldwin seems to be making a case for the PS.

That is a lot of defensive guys I'd like to keep. I am only seeing 7 OL (so keep 9), 3 TEs, 4 RBs, 2 QBs and 5 WRs, for a total of 23 offensive players. I suppose that allows for 27 defensive guys. Hmm, not sure that is a great idea.

Much thanks for these TGR. At the moment I'm working long hours with a 2½ hour commute each day so I'm getting most of my info from the radio but I catch up on these three or four at a time.

I agree with you TGR. Except I keep Wooden over Simmons. 23 Offense, 27 Defense. At least to start! Melton can play WR if needed.

I think Oliver starts the season on PUP so the Packers have a delayed decision there (keeping five DE - Gary, LVN, Enagbare, Cox and Sorrell). DT is going to be the big question mark with Wooden playing better. I would love to see them keep all six but that would be unusual depth at DT.

I hope Lloyd can stay healthy - he just brings a different gear to the backfield than Jacobs, Wilson or Brooks.

I thought Kalen King looked pretty good at CB, albeit against back-ups on Saturday. I wonder if he would stick around on the PS if he is cut or look elsewhere.

Besides the Love injury Lloyd was the main thing I heard on the radio with several saying his burst is just different.

Yes Lloyd's return is great news! It is also good that Rasheed Walker has returned to the OL. I think Morgan should be available for guard duty as well if not starting.

I somehow missed this article yesterday. Looks like it got posted late Tuesday night and then got buried under Jersey Al's article on Wednesday morning.

I want to see more Ty'Ron Hopper. They are still pushing ahead with the Justin Simmons experiment though. With Simmons, you have a linebacker who's not very physical and can't cover as well as a DB. At least Hopper can put a good hit on the ballcarrier.
