Jordan Love was on fire.

2hrs 17min practice.  Demovsky

PARTICIPATION:

Returned: TE Tucker Kraft (groin) DNPs: RB Emanuel Wilson (knee) WR Dontayvion Wicks (calf) CB Nate Hobbs (knee) T Rasheed Walker (groin) OL Travis Glover (shoulder) CB Kamal Hadden (hip) DL Arron Mosby (groin) RB MarShawn Lloyd (groin) WR Christian Watson (knee) DE Collin Oliver (hamstring) OL John Williams (back).  Hodkiewicz

LaFleur says he "wouldn't anticipate anything too long term" with Rasheed Walker, who is out with a groin injury.  Huber

Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs expected to miss rest of training camp after knee surgery, could return Week 1.  Packer News

Packers CB Nate Hobbs stood up with a smile when asked how he was feeling after his knee surgery. He said on Thursday's practice it was a minor collision that turned out to be something deeper. Said he found out his meniscus was torn on Friday and had the procedure Saturday.  Kelly Hallinan

Hello Future Wes, Messiah Swinson was also out today with an illness.  2) Corey Ballentine is back & wearing No. 35 again.  3) Gregory Junior has been released.  Hodkiewicz

Initially, Emanuel Wilson thought he’d torn his ACL when he exited practice last week. Instead, he said it’s just a bone bruise. Wilson wants to play Saturday against Jets, but he’ll need to practice first.  Wood

Another roster move: WR Sam Brown Jr. (groin) has been waived injured and OL Lecitus Smith has been signed.  Demovsky

PERSONNEL:

Starters;

Love Jacobs - Brooks   {Wilson is injured TGR]

Kraft Golden - Doubs

Morgan - Banks - Jenkins - Rhyan - Tom

Gary - Clark - Wyatt - LVN

Simmons - Quay - Cooper [Quays return sends McDuffie to the bench.  TGR]

Nixon - Valentine Williams - McKinney Quay back in team!!!  Herman

Not sure if something happened with Aaron Banks - it was Jacob Monk at LG primarily and then Donovan Jennings got a snap at LG w the 1’s on that td pass to Doubs.  2)  Aaron Banks is currently in with the 2’s which is… interesting. More importantly Brant & Aaron are next to each other for an all Banks left side of the line.  Herman

OFFENSE:

Elgton Jenkins with his first official bad snap of camp. Just sailed the football over Jordan Love’s head in shotgun.  Wood

Good blocking by Kraft & Golden on the outside to help Jacobs pick up a first. All these plays are 3rd & 8.  Herman

Not sure if the offense just caught them in a blitz with a perfect play call or if Love made the adjustment at the line but they just smoked a Hafley pressure with a great underneath throw to Jacobs with Kraft out front blocking. Big gain.  Asked Kraft about this in the locker room, says they had two plays on and switched to their zero beater to take advantage of the pressure.  Nagler

Man, Savion Williams has some jets when he turns a corner on a sweep. Gets downfield in a hurry.  2) Romeo Doubs gets behind Javon Bullard and Evan Williams on a post route, and Jordan Love does not miss. Drops a bomb in Doubs’ lap for a 46-yard TD.  3)  Matthew Golden beats Keisean Nixon for about 20 yards from Jordan Love on an actual dig route. Really smooth separation against Nixon to the middle of the field, and Love hit his rookie in stride.  4)  Jordan Love is having himself a day. Gorgeous ball to Jayden Reed for 23 on a deep out, beating Javon Bullard.  Wood

Willis with a dime to Hardman for a really good pickup deep right side.  2)  Savion Williams with a nice block on the outside to spring Chris Brooks for a few yards on a swing pass. 3rd & 6 upcoming. Defense looks like they had the sack. Incomplete to Savion anyway. Even if it was caught it would have been short.   Herman

1st & 10. Love to Jacobs on a checkdown for about 5. Jacobs inside run. Gary was all over it but they give the first down. Aaron Banks back with the 1’s btw. Wouldn’t read anything into that last series w the 2’s. Looked like a mismatch of players. Love to Golden for a nice pickup on a post over the middle. Golden accelerates through the catch point, easy hands catch - big first down. Some real juice from Chris Brooks on a nice inside run. Prob the most sauce I’ve seen from him. Jordan gets a free play on a hard count - fires downfield for Reed who can’t make the sliding catch. Def a bit under thrown. Fake end around to Reed. Defense doesn’t bite. Love throws it away. Looks like they called it a sack. Love complete over the middle to Doubs but def prob would have lit him up in a game. 4th & 2 upcoming for the offense - looks like the defense stuffs a run. Of note - no McKinney on that drive. Zayne Anderson came in a the 3rd safety.  [Defense Wins - TGR]  2)  st & 10 - Abanikanda run goes nowhere. 2nd & 10 - Abanikanda run for 4. 3rd & 6 - screen to Abanikanda for nothing. Well short of the 1st. Great defense.  [Defense Wins - TGR]

2-Minute:

McKinney back with the 1’s in 2 minute. Zayne Anderson in for Williams this time. Lots of rotating today. 1:00 left. Ball on own 45. 1st and 10. Down 7. 0 timeouts. What a fucking throw by Love on an anticipation throw on a deep out to Reed. feet just in. Out of bounds. First down. Wow. Throw away by Love on the next play. Right decision there. 2nd down - 48 seconds left. Love buys time. Finds Jacobs for the checkdown. 6 yards and out of bounds. Love to Musgrave. First down. Out of bounds. Ball on 20 yard line. 36 seconds left. Throw away from Love. Love throws late across his body deep middle of the end zone. Not sure what he saw. Lands out of bounds barely and harmlessly incomplete. Jordan Morgan had two really nice blocks in a row at LT against Sorrell and Enagbare. Another throw away from Love. 4th down upcoming. 16 seconds left. Need a TD. Ball still on the 20. Love throws to Jacobs at the pylon, might have had a chance but it goes out of bounds and incomplete. Defense wins.  2)  2’s up next in 2 min. Willis complete outside to his TE for about 5. Looks like there was a defensive penalty. 1st and 5. Willis with a nice back shoulder throw along the sidelines but Hicks locates it late and can’t make the 1 handed catch. Robinson with good coverage. Willis deep shot on a post. Complete to Sheppard. Defense completely lost him. Ball on the 15. Clock ticks. Willis goes fast and doesn’t see anyone - immediately throws it away. Willis buys time but throws it away. 20 seconds left. Down 7. Ball on 15. 3rd and 10. Willis tries Heath but Heath can’t quite get there by the pylon. Heath upset he didn’t get the penalty call against Herring. WILLIS TO HARDMAN. TD ON 4th DOWN!!! Gorgeous ball from Willis to Hardman for the td. Hardman beat King easily. Going for 2 and the win: Willis read option keeper, unreal sidearm throw to Hicks for 2. Huge drive from Willis. His best of camp.  [Offense wins.  TGR]  3)  Another 2 minute situation. Down 1. Ball near/at midfield. 15 seconds left. No timeouts. 1st & 10. Love complete to Reed for about 15ish. Spike. McManus drills it.   4)  2’s up next [15 seconds left with ball on the 50]: They run a QB power to the right side with Willis as the defense has almost everyone back in coverage. Willis gets out of bounds and McManus drills the kick again.Herman

DEFENSE:

Deslin Alexandre makes one big play a day. Nice tfl on a run to his side. He was immediately in the backfield.  2)  McDuffie all over an end around to Reed. Nice burst on an outside run by Abanikanda Jamon Johnson shuts down a check down to Abanikanda.   Herman

Edgerrin Cooper bursts into the backfield and drops Josh Jacobs for about a 4-yard loss. Shades of last year.  Hodkiewicz

Kalen King reads screen to Malik Heath before snap, and triggers for PBU a few yards into backfield. Good recognition from the young CB.  2)  On fourth-and-10 from the 15, Malik Willis hits Mecole Hardman down left side for TD. Hardman got wide open against Kalen King, and Willis didn’t miss. Next snap, Willis rifles a sidearm to Julian Hicks on slant to convert 2-point conversion.  3)  Corey Ballentine already making plays. Just undercut a short Sean Clifford pass to Johnny Lumpkin for a PBU in his first practice back.    Wood

Willis late throwing across the field again. No pick this time but Micah Robinson easily breaks up the pass intended for Hicks.  Herman

Micah Robinson with another pass break up. Kid has a handful of notable plays every practice. Excited to see him in preseason.  Nagler [I see Robinson getting mentions but he is not the 4th or 5th CB on people's early 53-man roster predicitons.  Curious.  TGR]

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Love buys time but throws away. 57-yarder upcoming for McManus. He absolutely crushes it right down the middle. Looked good from 90.  Herman

Brandon McManus sent out for a 55R. Low snap, but handled by Daniel Whelan, and McManus splits the uprights again to close practice. McManus 44-of-46 in camp.  Wood

Savion Williams as a gunner on punt team and was down there immediately. That was fun.  Herman

MISCELLANEOUS:

The Packers released an unofficial depth chart.  Click here on Demovsky to see it.    [Ah, that is tough.  Here is a link to an article by Justis Mosqueda which has a nice depth chart.  TGR]

Donovan Jennings getting some key No 1 reps with 65 and 74 not doing one on ones. Held his ground. Morgan had another nice day, Rhyan too. Brenton Cox continues to shine in the drill. Good battle again between Tom and Gary.  2) Romeo Doubs won't toot his own horn, but I'm telling you 87 has been on a heater for the past week.  Hodkiewicz

ESPN and the National Football League announced a non-binding agreement under which ESPN will acquire NFL Network and certain other media assets owned and controlled by the NFL — including NFL’s linear RedZone Channel, and NFL Fantasy — in exchange for a 10% equity stake in ESPN.  Demovsky  [So, the NFL becomes a minority owner of the media that covers them.  Hmmmm.  Sounds like a terrible idea.  Quite possibly a smart financial move, though.  TGR]

Hobbs being out just long enough to stop blowing up his own teammates and returning just in time to start blowing up opponents feels like a win, tbh.  Nagler

Nice to know everyone has decided Jordan Morgan is definitely a guard forever after watching him practice one time at left tackle.  Oldacres

I guess Rasheed Walker was in pads but did not go much. Still, I expect Morgan to get a lot of reps at left tackle so perhaps he can iron out any bugs in his pass set.

Doubs and Golden starting. Maybe that's what it will look like on opening day. Plenty of Jayden Reed when they go to 3-receiver sets, of course. And Wicks will rotate in and out of the lineup.

One of the players in Justis Mosqueda's 53-man roster prediction--Gregory Junior--has already been cut. That was a shot in the dark anyway. I'm still seeing only 4 CBs worth keeping, including Bo Melton.

With each day that goes by, I wonder a little more if Collin Oliver will start the season on PUP with his hamstring injury. John Williams seems to be a lost cause, with the back injury. How did these guys get hurt? I didn't hear anything about them being injured when they were drafted.

Both Oliver and Williams are on the PuP list. That suggests that they were injured during team activities (OTAs as both missed minicamp) or that the injury was sustained during recognized college football activities (and thus likely was known to the team) or was something the Packers identified and determined needed medical intervention. If the injury was incurred during private individual Practice/training or just daily life, they would be on the Non Football Injury list.

Thanks, TGR.

Is it too early for me to start worrying about the O-line? I was looking forward to it being vastly better than last season with the change at center and additions. At least they're getting a good look at Morgan for a depth piece even when that's a disappointment if that's what he ends up being for now.

It would be nice to have a settled and relatively healthy OL. Tom aside, they’ve either been banged up or moving position continually. No, I’m not worried at this point, for those reasons.

Morgan was likely a tad rusty at LT, so I take his family night poor performance with a dose of salt. However, the issue here isn’t whether he can play LT, but:

(1) he can realistically compete to rival Walker’s competency this season,
(2) if he really wouldn’t be better focusing on RT (and getting Tom some LT snaps in case of emergency). And
(3) is he potentially better than Rhyan at G and should we just focus Morgan there?

At this point I really have difficulty believing that Morgan is our second best tackle now. I also really struggle to believe that Belton is ready this year either: he needs a lot of technical refinement, as was predicted. Morgan might perhaps be our 3rd best T now and better option as depth at RT. Yet we aren’t even trying him there seriously (or Walker). What happens if Tom goes down? Finally, Morgan might just be a better G at this point and possibly better than Rhyan if all are healthy.

Because of Stenavich’s history of dubious personnel handling, I admit I fear we are again not focusing opportunities correctly and that this may affect our best combinations but also how well we cope when starters are injured. Part of me thinks we may need to bring in veteran RT depth for the season at cut downs.

Patience is starting to wear thin after thinking they were just experimenting with Hansen and then sticking with Myers at center for years. They have to have a clear best 5 and the next best 2 or 3.

Maybe. Perhaps I’m overly worried by prior examples that do not seem any wiser with hindsight than they did at the time, going back to the Championship OL personnel and position switcheroo debacle through to throwing Glover (a T) in at G in the playoffs despite a lack of practice at the position or even late game exposure and over a guy who had got significant time at G that season but was not good either (just not as chaotic). That last part asks questions of Gute as well, since he is still here.

I looked at Belton's college tape and thought his technique needed work but perhaps due to being huge he could play in 2025 in a phone booth (i.e., at RG). IDK: I thought Belton held up well against Cox during Family Night, and I mentally have Cox as the starter opposite Gary even if the coaches insist on LVN.

I did not think Morgan won the RG job last year, at least not clearly outright. I thought Rhyan had held him off. It was close, so giving the nod to Morgan who as a rookie and as a first round pick was more likely to improve with snaps made sense to me.

Monk made no impression on me at all during Family Night. I have no idea how he played.

GB has 5 pretty good starters. They have 2, maybe 3, maybes, guys who can play in the NFL. And I am not sure about Morgan, Belton, or Monk. I am not sure which tier to put Glover in but it is a higher tier than Telfort or Jennings.

One of Belton’s problems at G is his bend. He’s a big man who is athletic certainly, but has regular issues playing high, even as a tackle. At G that would be disastrous. There are numerous other technical issues with his foot technique etc, that G typically renders less critical, but that one is why I’m not all that sure G would be an easy a transition for him.

He’s a pick on potential (annd that was the pundit consensus as well as mine) and not, in my view, a player one wants starting currently. Perhaps he’s made strides, but he looked not to have changed significantly yet during family night. Last year he looked great when it works and awful when he lost balance or leverage or his feet got mired and he couldn’t move fast enough.

We are all good and in general agreement. I just wanted to acknowledge that maybe the coaches were right and I was wrong when the coaches decided to keep Belton solely at LT and RT and not give him reps at guard. I criticized the coaches for not playing Belton at guard but they might well be right.

"(3) is he potentially better than Myers at G and should we just focus Morgan there?"

Was that a Freudian slip, or am I missing something? Did you mean to write Rhyan or Glover?

Rhyan! I’m not sure it’s Freudian (I hope not), but it was certainly a slip [now corrected].

I actually thought Rhyan got much better over the year once the platooning ceased and he settled (another idea I’m very dubious about yet Stenavich has floated as possible again this at both RG and LT). So I am not saying Morgan would win on merit necessarily.

I suppose I’m just running in part on the widespread narrative that that is the most open spot and part on Morgan arguably being better before Rhyan improved last year even with a not fully healthy shoulder (pretty important for an OL).

Maybe they're hoping that Morgan with a supposedly higher ceiling as a first-round pick would pick it up like Rhyan eventually did with the reps. Lord I hope so anyway.

I confess that I did not really look at Demovsky's tweet. I find it a little difficult to decipher. I have just put in a link to an article by Justis Mosqueda that greatly clarifies things and can be understood with one glance.
