My take aways where:

That Matthews can still be producive.
King looks like a CB.
Without Daniels they get no interior push. Ringo was the only other guy on the roster who could rush from the 3 tech. Still scratching my head on his release.
Damarius Randall has regressed to bust level.

Positives??? Well some players played well, like they're supposed to, but not nearly enough.

One takeaway is that this team is the same as the team last year (and years before). An offense that can only rely on two players consistently...Rodgers and Nelson. Partially because they're good, and partially because the head coach refuses to change "what they do". Like always, if Rodgers doesn't play at a super human level, this team has virtually no chance against upper tier opponents.

The other takeaway is that the defense, while they have improved team speed in certain areas, is still very subpar against elite offenses. I have come to the conclusion that there is enough talent to be a better defense, which leaves the D coordinator. I haven't ever been on the fire Dom Capers bandwagon, but I am now. It's been too many years of seeing the same thing happen. The faces change, but the results never do.

This is a good team, but unless something changes drastically, those that think they can compete for a championship will be heartbroken once again.

These are may take away's from the game -

This team had way to many injuries from before it started. Playing with our 3rd and 5th option at OT is not a scenario you wish for.
Losing their best WR and biggest offensive weapon really hurt the offense (just look back at 2015). Losing their best defensive player really affected the DL.

The turning point of the game was on the refs horrible Offensive pass interference on Bennett. They were down 17-7 at the time, and should have had the ball at midfield with about 1 minute left and 3 timeouts left. At the very worst they should have went into half time 17-7, and could have went into half time 17-10 or 17-14. That completely changes the game.

The defense had to many mental and physical mistakes in the game. Can't win games that way. To many dropped passes and missed tackles.

Atlanta is a scary good team at home. But showed last week they can be beaten on the road. If Green Bay wants to play them at Lambeau they better finish 1 game better then them.

We found one of our starting CB's! King was very, very good in his debut.

The only thing I'm concerned with this team is the amount of injuries they have. Hopefully none of them are long term though.

Injuries hurt. Time for the Pack to check the waiver wire for OL. The team fell apart in some ways. We have the motion penalties instead of the defense jumping. That happens when subs or newbies are playing. That pick penalty was atrocious, wrong and made a huge difference Couldn't or shouldn't McCarthy throw the red flay. Replay would have reversed it.

Randall and Rollins can't cover Jones. They were not even close. And looked terrible with tackling. The Atlanta DB's played much better. Maybe someone can figure out why.

But it is time to start playing Josh Jones. Work him into the slot position. Safety is a deep and talented position. I think they are the best players and should start playing. Can't expect Rollins and Randall to improve much. Because we will face Atlanta again. Need a solution. First figure from within what to do or go outside.

Anyone who still doubted the importance of Mike Daniels to this defense can't possibly after last night. Against Seattle, we had 2 head-scratcher calls go our way, last night 2 went the other way. Hate to use Russell Wilson's excuse, but those 2 plays could have changed the outcome. Glad the boys never stopped fighting. I bet some Atlanta fans were sweating thinking that 31-7 might become the new 28-3.

After last night I'm sure that this team has material to win the end prize at the end.

Offense will come together (they are missing preseasons snaps to be well oiled machine), D will solidify once the newcomers (rookies and vets) will be integrated in the group.

Only concern I have is what is with Davon House. He played bad in the first game, he was lost in the last one. Maybe he is still injured? I do not know, but I know that Packers are counting a lot on him.

My takeaway is SSDY: Same S*** Different Year. It's basically a waiting game to see if the defense improves over the course of this year, just like every other year. Rodgers looks rusty, and I expect the offense will improve soon, once healthier at OT and Nelson gets back.

As shown by GB and NYG in the past decade, it doesn't really matter how you start. It matters how you are playing in december, and that you make the playoffs. So like almost every other year of MM's tenure, it's a waiting game to see if the defense improves, and it usually doesn't.

I do think the defense is marginally improved.

One takeaway I got from this is why rest starters all preseason to avoid injury when only 2 weeks in they are already all banged to shit?

3 Bad calls by the NFL ref's that was no pic play on Bennet .

Just as I predicted all offseason long. Defense hasn't improved enough at all in the off-season. We still can't stop play off/championship caliber offenses.

Make all the excuses you want, our offense was banged up, Daniels was out but we got torched... again... and guess what, this is the team we'll see in the play offs again and please please don't be ignorant enough to think in 3 months we'll magically be able to stop elite offenses.

This is exactly why ALL off-season I said our defense didn't improve. King played fine BUT like I said, he's just a rookie. Too much to learn. Randall/Rollins are bad, House is insanely average. We can't get stops whatsoever. Chastise me all you want for being a realist but I've been saying it all year, go back and look for yourself on this website. Our defense is average enough to keep us in games against average teams (the entire NFC North, Bengals ect...) but we will get blown out by contending teams.

Where are my Randall/Rollins/House fan boys today? Where's that come back year? Hows the "star" package working?

It's week #2 in an electric environment for Atlanta. Need to be healthy and sharp to go in there and win that game. The first half was competitive but a potential 14 point swing with that penalty shifted momentum beyond where it was recoverable to win the game. Positives are young OL and DB's got experience in about as close as you can get to playoff atmosphere in the regular season. Packers will get better from this game and build upon this.

Imagine if we came to Atlanta and the Falcons were missing their starting OTs, star WR and their star defensive player, and the coaches refused to start their best CB? What would the score be?

After seeing the Seahawks yesterday me thinks last weeks win, abeit a win, wasnt that impressive. Ouch.
The Vikes in one draft were able to replace their entire O line. Last years didnt cut it so they replaced them. Situation solved.
Ted let our O line talent walk. Ted let a lot of guys walk. Ted cant replace and build a team on 7 draft picks and little free agent help. Blame ted, not the players.
I mean if this team didnt have Rogers they would be worse then the Bears who now have a very good defense in search of an offense.

My take away?

It would have been nice to win last night. But without Bulaga, Bakhtiari, Nelson, Daniels etc.. in that situation - home opener and a new stadium for Atlanta.... That wasn't going to happen.

It was ugly. The defense did show improvement though. From shitty to marginally shitty... With room for growth. Only one loss. Enjoy the W Falcons fans.

Let's get healthy. Get the the bye at 7-1 or 6-2 (which I think I we do) and see you again in January.

It is amazing what one game reveals and how quickly the training camp hopes dissolve. I still think that this team has some good pieces but are they enough and do we know how to use them. That is what the season is for. Here is my two game takes:

Our defense isn't good enough to get to the top. Let's face it, our DB's can't cover Jones and Sanu. We also struggled to handle the Atlanta RB's. Talk all you want about "Nitro" but Atlanta basically could score or convert when they needed to.

Our offense is good but it relies entirely on Aaron Rodgers to do amazing stuff. Yes we got some bad calls but that shouldn't matter against an average defense like Atlanta. Yes, Bakh and Bulaga would have helped. We might be able to trade blows with Atlanta but we don't have enough difference makers outside of Rodgers. I am hoping that Montgomery, Bennett and at least one WR become those studs. We'll see.

Beyond that, our D is the key to getting to the next level. Despite the draft and FA investment, we continue to struggle. I think that Dom's defense are great - 20 years ago. We are too far off the pace to win games with this D when facing good offenses and decent O-lines.

How is it that Brady is able to convince the ref? I have never seen a call be reversed like that. Has anyone?

1. The secondary is just as bad as last year. Randall and Rollins are 4th or 5th CBs on any NFL team at best.
2. The D played well last week, but after seeing Seattle, it should be obvious that the Seattle O is one of the worst in the league. While Atlanta may be one of the best Os in the league, I think the Packers will have trouble to hold good teams under 24.
3. Packers O can't rely on Rodgers and Nelson alone, but it looks like this is exactly what they are doing. The new TEs haven't arrived yet or are not nearly as good as anyone thought.
4. Struggle for the young OTs was expected, but they played alright, given the circumstances. It was not catastrophic, which is a win in my book.
5. Injuries continue to hurt this team, but at this point, can someone really count on players like Cobb or Bulaga to stay healthy? Availability was supposed to be a factor...
6. The Packers are who we thought they were. A good team who may make it to the playoffs, but at the same time not good enough to get beyond real good teams like the Falcons.
7. Julio Jones is certainly an elite NFL WR. Sanu is not. Yet the Packers secondary couldn't deal with Sanu either - shows me how very pedestrian the Seattle WRs are...
8. It could be worse - Mike Glennon could be the starting QB...
9. The Packers better win the NFC North - there are several teams in the NFC which will have a better record, and it won't just be the division winners...

- I hate seeing injuries occur to the Packers and there were a lot of them in this game.

- M.Daniels better be okay. The medical staff needs to be really smart with him so that his hamstring injury doesn't plague him all year long. He's the heart and soul of this defense -- it needs him at 100%. Sign C.Ringo off of the Lions Practice Squad in the mean time or re-sign RJF.

- The refs made a least one atrociously bad call that had a pretty big effect on the game.

- I miss J.Cook and I hope M.Bennett can become the difference maker we all thought he'd be.

- Rodgers needed to play smarter than he did.

- King looked solid. House is not good in run support -- gets sucked in way to often. Randall and Rollins are struggling to stay with guys or show much alertness when the ball is in the air -- hope they can improve on those things because the team will need them or at least one of them. Should J.Hawkins receive an opportunity to play over Rollins given how bad Rollins has been?

- I'm not much of a fan of J.Williams and there was nothing within this game to alter my opinion on him. Hopefully, I will be proven wrong about him.

- The two rookie Tackles for the most part impressed me -- they held up well-enough. Nevertheless, hopefully our two starting Tackles can return next week.

Biggest takeaway? Some of you guys are way overacting. Honestly, unless you expected this team to go 16-0, we had to lose somewhere. Might as well be to arguably the best team in the NFL. Look at the Pats. They are still considered cream of the crop and expected to go deep in the playoffs, yet they got blown out for their opener. We were playing the best team, in their new stadium, with significant injuries, and a young team. Yes, there were some significant issues all around. But give'm a season worth of experience (plus a bit of luck with injuries), and you could see a much improved performance in the playoffs. All I'm saying is one game doesn't determine a season. I fully expect us to annihilate Cincy next week on both sides of the ball. Todays goat can be tomorrows hero. Let the dislikes roll...

What worries me, our corners are always 2 yards away from the intended receiver... very few contested catches... same as last year, and the year before... and the year before that...

Daniels absence was noticeable, when he went out the defense took a dive. It affected everything else.

Over rated GM, poor defensive talent drafted, stubborn coaches refusing to utilize the strengths of the players who do have talent and an over-the-hill Defensive coordinator. Nothing's going to change, they will bounce back and get bounced out of the playoffs, if anyone is left healthy that is...

Takeaway:
1) Atlanta's secondary has been taught to tackle through the legs. Green Bay's secondary is allowed to consistently tackle high and try to grab shoulder pads.

2) The Packers secondary is unable to flip their hips out of their back peddle and accelerate to follow a receiver that has made a 90-degree cut. If you want to beat the Packers all you need to do is run crossing patters. The receiver makes his cut and it's like our DBs are stuck in quick sand and the receiver accelerates away and Ryan sits back and shoots fish in a barrel as he consistently hits receivers that are WIDE open!

3) If you are going to play safeties at LB, they need to be fast enough to avoid OL men and still make a play in the run game. Atlanta's OL really killed us in the run game on the second level. They would just engulf Burnett and he was like velcro, he could not get off of the block.

4) King needs to start immediately. We have about 17 to 19 weeks to get him ready to cover Julio when we see Atlanta again in the playoffs.

5) Same thing with Josh Jones - We have to start now getting him ready for the playoffs. His speed is sorely needed.

I am really F##%$% tired of all our injuries~~~~~~~~~~~~~

oh...and for my two cents...I think the Pack F#$%$ed up when they let Cook go....all the guy did was get open and make outstanding catches...other than that chip block (and that was classic) Bennett sucked...He dropped at least 3 catchable balls in the FIRST half...some receivers don't have that many drops in SIX games!!!!

I am very curious to see how Vince Biegel, Montravius Adams, and for the sake of this past game Ahmad Brooks make an impact on our defensive front 7. I am hopeful that the combination of those 3 later in the season would have helped along the front 7 with the absence of Daniels, particularly if Montravius can be solid.

Brooks is notably a good run stopper, Biegel is hopefully able to apply some pressures in rotation.

All in all, I think a lot of our defense will depend on how those 3 shake out as the season goes on.

My takeaways are:
MM needs to get Monty more involved in the offense. He is their best offensive player after Aaron Rodgers.
Although our backup tackles played well last evening, all things considered, but Rodgers took too many hits. If that continues he'll end up like Andrew Luck.
Losing Daniels on defense is similar to losing Rodgers for the offense. It changes everything else.
If Randall and Rollins are not going to be able to keep up with NFL receivers they need to at least tackle better.
House has been a non-factor for the 1st two games.
King should start at corner for the remainder of the season.
Same old story, if Rodgers and the offense doesn't play well our defense can't keep us in the game especially against strong offensive teams. If that doesn't change this season will end during the playoffs again without an SB.

I wish are WRs were as good as the Falcons. Awesome Wrs. But thats no excuse not to tackle bad. They got open! And it just wasn't separation. The packers are going to have to upgrade. Capers plan is not working. And A-Rod didn't have the time. No way Allison should have let that INT Happen.

My takeaway? I saw a shot of Rodgers on the sideline right when the game started and it was all I needed, knew they didn't have a chance. He was scared and worried. Not that I blame him with 2 back up tackles. Everyone keeps saying how good the tackles played, but that's only because they adjusted the whole game plan so they didn't have to block more than 2.5 seconds. That is not, and has never been our offense. They played scared, maybe they had too, but you usually don't win that way.

I wish TT had paid TE Cook the couple of Mil difference between him and Kendricks plus bringing in TE Bennett for this team.

Observation: Falcons traded 5 draft picks in 2011 to move up to 6th for J. Jones. TT always trades to move down for more bodies looking for diamonds instead of taking chance on a "special" game changing player in top 10.
Packers in 25 yrs have not been a bad enough team to ever get picks in top 10/15 draft picks.

My takeaway is next time, we put the offense on the field first

My takeaways:

1. Last night tells us nothing about how this team can compete when healthy.

2. As I expected Atlanta scored 34, we lost big, and McCarthy refused to insert Jones over Williams at backup RB.

3. Cobb is a good WR, but he's fragile and expensive.

4. Clay did fairly well with an easy matchup, but this defense is utterly dependent on the attention drawn by Daniels and Perry.

5. Kevin King and Josh Jones bring a level of burst and impact I've almost never seen in Green Bay's secondary. They're raw, but must play more, and Capers MUST start sending Jones on some blitzes.

6. Not having Bak and Bulaga GREATLY hampered what our offensive weapons could do with their routes--especially TE's and RB's.

7. Bennett creates little space and has had terrible focus early on. This will improve, but he should apologize to the fans...

8. ...as should Ted Thompson for using our top 2 draft picks on Randall and Rollins.

9. Fackrell is improving.

10. Ryan should never play on a fast track.

The Packers went on the road to the new stadium built for last year's Superbowl participant. They didn't have their best receiver, their best defender, or their two best offensive tackles (among others). I'd say that Bakh, Nelson and Daniels are among the five best GBP players, and Bulaga is top ten. Very predictably, they lost.

In 1996 the Packers got blasted by a so-so, 10-6 Dallas team. With two minutes left in the game, the score was 18-0, Dallas, until GB scored a garbage-time TD, and failed to convert the 2 pt conversion. Final score: 21-6 Dallas.

That 1996 season turned out pretty good.

It always amazes me how over-reactionary fans can be. The Packers look good beating up on a JV Seattle offense, and everybody raves about how the Almighty Nitro Defense is going to conquer the world. One week later a Packers team devastated by injuries loses by 11 on the road to last years Superbowlers, and people immediately start wetting themselves.

I'm not saying that Packers are shoo-ins for another Lombardi, but geez. Even good teams lose on a pretty regular basis. How long ago is it now that the Dolphins completed the NFL's one and only undefeated season? Oh right.... 1972 ... 45 years ago.

Let's let this thing play out, huh?

Whether it's MM's play calling or Rodgers' execution, this was just another display of stubbornly looking for the deep vertical plays and ignoring what the defense was giving them, until it was too late.

Once Rodgers started panicking and pushing too hard to save a game that wasn't yet at the point of needed to be saved (Interception before the half, anyone?), we finally came out in the second half and started methodically moving the ball with quick, controlled strikes and a balanced ground attack.

Had we realized eschewing the short to intermediate stuff and holding on to the ball looking for the big yardage play wasn't working sooner, and just plinked and plunked early on and taken occasional shots when opportunity presented it self, this game would have been an entirely different beast.

I'm not even worried about the defensive perfomance- I expected this game to be high scoring affair. I was more troubled by the way the offense operated in the first half, and particularly disappointed in the way Rodgers and the offense responded (over-reacted) to a manageable deficit in the second Q. Did not look like any semblance of veteran leadership. Let things spin far more out of control than they needed to.

Disappointing showing. Good news is, these Packers teams tend to respond well to taking a lashing in front of a national audience.

BTW, anyone who says this offense is all about Rodgers and Nelson and we're lost without that connection wasn't watching this game.

Allison, Cobb, Adams, Montgomery all made significant contributions and showed some playmaking ability last night.

I'm slightly concerned about Bennet, though. Several catches dropped that were needed. I'm sure it was just a down game for him, but those are the catches we need him to make.

Biggest takeaway: How fast negativity sets in!

Agreed, I also thought McCarthy mismanaged that pre half possession and should have taken a knee before the half, regrouped and gotten out of there only ten points down. Instead, he pushes the envelope again and we got nailed before halftime, just like last week. That to me was the turning point, not the Bennett call. We lost any hope for momementum after that and in fact came out lackluster on our first possession. It was another bad gamble.

I am saddened by the play of Randall and Rollins. They could not stop Jones from catching the pass or tackling him. Even healthy. At least King seemed better. So I am all in with King starting and letting him develop. Randall and Rollins can help out with team like the Bengals coming up. Also, Josh Jones as slot DB. Get him in the game and let him develop also. Because we know the best of Randall and Rollins. And it won't win a Super Bowl.

The offense looked out of sync. Motion penalties, dropped balls. Not even counting the two tackles. McCarthy needs to get the offense into a rhythm and fast. They might get past Cincinnati, but they need to be in rhythm soon. Montgomery looked good and the only bright spot of all the all-world offense guys that we have that we are expecting to create mismatches. Haven't seen that except for 88. And the Pack needs good OL backups. Three players are in for a look. TT needs to have a better philosophy than draft and develop.

If we get out of a September without any more serious injuries, I will be very happy. What the NFL and NFLPA did with the CBA is what created this mess. Players cannot go from short practice camps to full bore full speed games and expect serious injuries not to happen. Does the NFL want good games or not. Last night game was a perfect example of what happens when you throw two teams who are not prepared for the hard cutting, full speed hitting of pro football. NFL teams know that September is an extended preseason, and play the first two games, as final warm ups for the real season, which starts in October. Stupid and dangerous to the players, and cheating the fans who are paying for, and deserve a better product on the field.

Oh, the game. Well we all knew the outcome the second Bark was declared out. The two most important positions on your football team manned by your teams third string OL, and a guy most of us didn't even know was on the 53. Like that's going to end well. Combine with a vanilla game plan on both sides of the ball, and a home opening with the other team, whip and stir, for disaster. At least the packers got out pretty much intact.

Might be time for Revis Island in Green Bay , House hurt , Gunter gone , why not its only a matter of time until someone signs him.

And yes, sometimes offense should take care of the game. Not give to the opponent on 2 subsequent drives 14 points and than talking about how D was bad.

As much I like Aaron Rodgers (I'm in love with the way he plays!) this game is on his shoulder completely. He is aware of that. He said on press conference that he gave 14 points to Atlanta and the difference was, at the end only 11 points.

So, it is obvious that D had not lost the game in Atlanta but 2 factors:
1. Poor game from Packers offense!
2. Ridiculous decission by referees (I hope they will have to pay penalty as players has for that disdgrace!)
