Packers Sign CB Benjamin St-Juste to Two-Year Deal
The veteran is coming off a strong season in the Chargers defense.
By PackerAaron
The Green Bay Packers didn’t waste any time getting to work on Day 2 of the NFL’s legal tampering period.
Before most folks in Wisconsin had even poured their first cup of coffee, the Packers had reportedly agreed to terms with cornerback Benjamin St-Juste on a two-year, $10.5 million deal, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
St-Juste, most recently with the Los Angeles Chargers, arrives in Green Bay at a position that desperately needed reinforcements. The Packers’ cornerback room struggled for consistency throughout the 2025 season, and with the NFC North loaded with talented wide receivers, adding depth and competition was always going to be a priority this offseason.
While St-Juste might not have been the flashiest name on the free agent market, he brings some intriguing traits to the table. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, he has the size and length teams covet on the outside — something the Packers have historically valued at the position. His physical profile should give defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon another tool when matching up with the bigger receivers scattered throughout the division.
At 28 years old, St-Juste also brings a bit of veteran experience to a secondary that could use some stability as the Packers continue to reshape the roster heading into 2026.
The deal won’t dominate national headlines, but it’s the type of move that could quietly help shore up one of Green Bay’s biggest question marks heading into next season.

Knowing zip about this guy leaves me with an, "at least Gute addressed a position group hole in FA" feeling.
Now we wait and hope he's not Nate Hobbs, ver 2.0., play-wise.

How good is he?
Is he Kevin King?
Is he Richard Sherman?
Is he Riq Woolen?

Wish I knew if Gute had this guy or any of the others on his board when they were in the draft and someone snagged them up first?
Seems like Gute's trending older this season. Wonder if that's just coincidence or if it was decided to go in that direction? The CAP might be requiring that too.

If you don't have draft picks and you're signing FAs, you're getting older. Many of these guys are in the NIL/post covid era where they're spending more time in school jumping between colleges. We're going to see average age for second contracts increase.

Other than his size he is nothing special. Yes he might be a good CB I just hope he has not peaked. The size of the contract tells you that teams were not very interested.
He comes from north of the border from the fine city of Montreal. I visited Montreal frequently in the 80s and it was a very nice city. I hope it has remained that way.

17 PDs in 2023 but only 7 the last 2, I'll take it , he's a veteran with an upside at the least as a depth player.

Dynamite!!!
2025 PFF: 76.8 Overall / 77.8 Coverage / 67.2 Run D / 80.7 Tackling / 3.2 Missed Tackle % / 47.8% Comp% / 64.0 Passer Rating Allowed
St-Juste was the highest graded Zone CB in the NFL in 2025!!!

Thanks! Those are good stats, and he played on a top 10 defense. So far so good. I'm sure there's a catch because he did not command a lot of money. I'm hoping he can at least compete for a starting job.

If he isn't allergic to tackling, looking at you Valentine, then he should be an improvement.Rookie CB's often struggle at the start of their careers so this seems like a good move to get a vet

This is a good get at the cost....Packers are buying on him after one of his best-rated seasons playing limited snaps on a very good Chargers D. Has had three good seasons and two not-so-good. Inside-outside, but mostly an outside CB. This helps the CB room considerably.

Remarkably cheap price for the stat line GreenGold quoted above. I should never look a gift horse in the mouth but I am left wondering why he was so cheap when CB is such a prized position in the league. Hopefully he is the answer to the Packer's CB woes.
Good news is the signing is cheap enough it should not offset the comp pick for higher priced losses like Willis, Q. Walker, R. Walker and Doubs. Somewhat the same sized deal as Enagbare and will likely cancel his loss out.

March 10, 2026 at 08:48 am
He played limited snaps for the Chargers (about 35%) last year, but played extensively in Washington before that. I suspect that might limit his suitors a little bit. He's not a burner. Has a reputation for being a decent tackler. He's a credible NFL CB but not a CB1...my $0.02.
Raises the talent floor in the CB room and gives Gute flexibility to operate in the draft. Agreed on comp picks...if Wilson signs elsewhere for reasonable money it might cancel out this pick and save the Enagbare pick.
GregC

Limited snaps, but 35% is a significant chunk. He must have been the #3 outside CB, maybe starting some games if there was an injury.

Whether the offset is Wilson or Enagbare, the Packers can only get four comp picks in total which will likely be for Willis, R. Walker, Q. Walker, and Doubs. I suspect Gute will protect those four comp picks and not sign any higher priced free agents. He could still sign one of the NTs that were cut and not impact the comp picks.
Looked up St Juste and he had some pretty good years in Washington as well as last year in LAC. Continue to be pleasantly surprised at the price given his playing history.

Gutekunst indicated the Packers still need
to improve their depth at cornerback.
That they have some, but not all, of the pieces in place,
Then it's," the cornerback room don't need "wholesale changes".
Ok - I get spending money is his thing.
I guess we must have a bottleneck.

Off topic, but is anyone else surprised that K. Enagbare and Quay Walker were signed before Rasheed Walker and Romeo Doubs? I knew Willis would be in demand, but I expected R. Walker and Doubs to be the next Packer free agents signed. I also thought Enagbare wouldn't be signed until well into the free agency period. Guess that is why I am just a fan and not an NFL executive.....

March 10, 2026 at 08:52 am
I will agree that I am surprised Walker is not signed due to it being a premium position and there are not many at his age. I am not surprised a Doubs because he is an above average WR with a history of concussions playing a position that is a dime a dozen.
Guam
March 10, 2026 at 09:44 am
I thought R. Walker would be the first one off the board for precisely the reasons you cited - premium position and his age. Doubs does have question marks.

Walker dropped to R7 for a reason. Heard teams can be equally high/low on him too. He’s no mauler. Not even close. Can’t run block for shit.
Guam
March 10, 2026 at 11:02 am
He dropped to R7 due to injury his senior season, He was widely regarded as a R2/R3 pick coming off his junior season. He is not a good run blocker, but most teams want a good pass protector at LT and he is that.

March 10, 2026 at 08:53 am
Not really. I would think Walker and Doubs have more suitors which could make the process a little longer. I can see being more desired making the process a little longer. Lets remember they aren't even in free agency yet.

Eastern astrology (Chinese), but its roots actually began in Vietnam.
Their zodiacs differ where Chinese substitute rabbit for Vietnamese cat, and Chinese Ox vs Vietnamese water buffalo.
Search the astrological wheel, look across--there's your enemy sign, six years from yours.

It's looking like gute is going for an NT with his first pick in the draft now that he has signed an FA CB. As of now he should select 2 NT/DLs and 2 CBs in the draft and rebuild both of those position groups. Then the Packers need at least another OL for depth. Maybe an OL in FA as well. It's still very early in the FA period.
I expect/hope there are more moves to come. Thanks, Since '61

Very good signing and he should improve with more playing time. One of the top in the league in zone coverage according to PFF and 6'3 doesn't hurt. He only allowed a 60% passer rating when targeted.

This is a good move. I watched him several times this year. He’s solid—an upgrade. I’m very pleased. Now it’s time for an additional DT/Edge or two.

Thrilled with this signing. It suggests a continuing effort to improve the cornerback room. I also want to comment on Nixon. Last year was his first year playing boundary corner in the NFL. Since becoming a Packer, Nixon has taken on a new roll almost every year and turned one of those transitions into an All-Pro nod as a kick returner. He gave up 2 TD's to Brown in the playoff game against the Bear's, but he was right on Brown's arse on both plays. I want Nixon on the field this year because he is going to be better and just a slight improvement will make him a corner you can rely on. And, he's terrific in run support and going after the QB.

That's the challenge and fun of it with regard to building rosters, trying to discern who has peaked as a player and who is going to grow.
What I like about Nixon is that he seems to be a real competitor. He seems to be a real football player. He makes mistakes, like all players, but keeps fighting.
I hope that's right, and that a combination of talent and effort will get him far as a Packer.

Seems like a good value signing. Able to play the boundary and good in zone. Does commit some penalties, though.
Well, Hobbs didn't last long, did he? At lest Gute didn't prolong the goof and acquired more of the corner we needed in the first place.
The added flexibility in the draft is also helpful.

No one has even mentioned his forty time. I was unable to find it online. If someone can find it please share. Thanks
Never mind it ranges from 4.51 to a 4.58 forty. They say he is quick but sounds like he will be limited to Zone. I think the lack of speed is why he came cheap. Hopefully a good bargain though.

Admitting the mistake and moving on from Nate Hobbs was the biggest surprise to me. I said several months ago that was one of the worst FA signings this team has ever made and asked how they could get out of it.
Well, they did. It cost a little bit but they did it. Good on them. Hobbs will be walking away from Green Bay with many millions like a lottery winner but at least he won't be stinking up the field in a Packer uniform.
Hopefully a lesson learned.
