Packers Sign Fullback Tommy Bohanon
The veteran fullback has played in a total of 68 games, tallying 72 rushing yards on 26 carries to go along with 29 catches for 239 yards.
With Danny Vitale currently dealing with a calf injury, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst announced Monday that the Packers have signed Free-Agent Fullback Tommy Bohanan.
The sixth-year veteran played at Wake Forest from 2009-2012, and was drafted in the 7th round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
In September of 2016 Bohanon was cut by the Jets and was then signed by the Jaguars in April of 2017, where he played for two seasons before becoming a free agent.
Bohanon has played in a total of 68 games, tallying 72 rushing yards on 26 carries to go along with 29 catches for 239 yards. He has scored 3 career touchdowns as well; one receiving and two rushing.

Gute doing his due diligence by getting the players the Packers need as needed. I assume this is just a signing to the 90 roster to take practice snaps while Vitale is healing.

Bohanon was the Jets' fullback from 2013-2015, although he struggled mightily as a lead blocker in those years.

Looks like an older but nevertheless freakish athlete

Primarily a blocker in college and in the pros. He played a lot of special teams as well. Even as the starting fullback, not used much offensively on the ground or in the air.

He has the experience to hit the ground running to allow them to practice and run plays involving fullbacks. That’s a plus with none healthy.
More speculatively, this guy has never played in an offense that used FBs as weapons. Looking at his skill set, he has decent hands, isn’t slow and can do a Henderson. It’s not impossible that they think he has the physical tools to play a more Vitale-like role.

With this kind of offense and a QB that has battled injury the last few years, I could see a lot worse things to have on our roster than several bowling ball type players that can force opposing defenses to respect the run game when the weather gets cold and our offense stops looking new to game planning DCs, should the Packers consider keeping both this guy and Vitale.

Calf injuries can be slow to heal and recur easily. Might not see Vitale for several weeks.

I love the proactive attitude that Gute has. so much more refreshing than Ted Thompson sitting on his hands when there's an obvious need, until all the good prospects are gone.

Thompson oversaw 8 straight playoff seasons. Gutekunst hasn't had a winning season yet. If you want to crown 'em, then crown'em.

Old School - Thompson did not have a winning season until his 3rd season as GM. Gute has only completed one season as GM. We need to give him a chance.
Gute has been proactive at bringing players in to try to improve the roster. TT left holes in the roster for multiple seasons especially from 2015 - 2017.
TE, Safety, ILB, RBs are just some of the positions he left weakened for long periods. Ultimately the wheels fell off in 2017 and 2018.
IMO Gute has the next 2 seasons to produce results (at least playoff runs) or he will be on the hot seat. But so far I like his approach and I like his sense of urgency. Thanks, Since '61

Well Thompson inherited a mess and left one. Apples to oranges to compare Gute entering season 2 with Thompson post rebuild. I think they are both level on record based on their first season as GM
